Projection report (admin) 3/15

Presentation Issues: Tom came to tech his disc of LAVENDER HOUSE for the Wednesday show. However, theater 1 (where the show is happening, and where we were planning to tech) seems to not be set up for blu ray. The player shows up on the monitor under the HDMI input, but I could not figure out what its image file on the projector was (a call to Dylan S confirmed that he too did not know). In any case, I could not get the player on screen. I decided to move our QC to theater 6 . . . but the Samsung player wouldn't play Tom's BD-R. It kept pausing 8 seconds in, and when I tried to fast forward the disc and skip around, it froze at 30 seconds in. This exact same thing happened with his back-up disc. I ran the discs over to the booth 4 Samsung player and had an identical problem.
At this point I was pretty stumped. I had tried to call Billy and Sam at DMS, but they were not answering their phones. After another try, Billy did pick up, and he suggested I run to booth 2 and try the Oppo player.
I managed to get the booth 2 Oppo to successfully run the disc (confirmed by monitoring the audio in the booth) . . . but the blu ray flat image file on the Christie would not show up on screen, and I was not getting a feed to the HDMI in on the monitor. So, I could not confirm image.
. . . However, the preshow for the first round in theater 2 started at that point, and I had to leave the theater. We were able to test microphones in theater 1, though, and Tom seemed happy with how the cell phone sounds played into the mic. We discussed other options for phone sound during the q&a (running a cable out from the headphone jack into the PA), but, I am not familiar enough with how the audio is set up in that room to speak to that with authority.
Tom decided to look into making a DCP and trying to get it to us this weekend (he seemed to think this would be pretty easy for him to do). I strongly supported him in this decision — though, if we can moved the Oppo down to booth 1 and test it, that's probably not a bad idea either (and if somebody could show me how the blu ray set-up is meant to work in booth 2, I would appreciate that as well).
The big takeaway here is that it seems like the Samsungs can't play BD-Rs. Good to know for future bookings.
Also keep an eye out for any messages from Tom concerning a possible DCP. (And let's maybe press filmmakers for DCP content for one-off screenings from now on)

Preshow Clips/Playlist: I made a DON'T BREAK DOWN playlist for the event next week. Logos are placed in for intro and q&a, no lights up cue for end credits (figured that since a projectionist will be present, we can just bring them up manually anyway). Feel free to edit for your own purposes. Playlist has been scheduled.

** sent Into The Spider-Verse to screen 3 for the weekday shows

***downloaded and ingested new KDMs for Woman At War and Apollo 11

**** Kris's new trailer spreadsheet lists the 'events' trailer pack for Cat Video Fest — however, I am assuming that kids will be coming to this, so, I've left all the kid-friendly content in there just in case. Feel free to change it. (Also . . . is this an event? If so the playlist will have to be updated)

Trailer Updates: Downloaded the new in-house trailers from Dropbox (Play Ball, Wild Things, 9 to 5, Vertigo). Updated the 'events' trailer pack with Play Ball — waiting til after Cat Video Fest ends this weekend to add Pulp Fiction.

Special Events/ AV set up: we did dual staff screenings of Captain Marvel (theater 2) and Woman At War (theater 3). All good (though I don't think anybody actually came to see them).

Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers):

Ordering/Receiving (content):

Outgoing/Shipping (content):

Print/video Inspection: Attempted to QC Where In The Hell Is The Lavender house (see above). One of Tom's discs is in booth 4/6 if we can take a look at it over the weekend.

Distro Doc updated/checked?:

Maintenance/cleaning: the Fire Alarm keeps getting triggered in booth 6 over night. It's fairly easy to clear, but, this should not be considered normal. Does anybody know why this is happening?

Cue sheets updated (only if needed): Added end times to the cue sheets for Monday — Thursday (except for Lavender House and Us).

Showtime boards & recording updated?: added Five Feet Apart to the front marquee. Took down the Smoke info from the north side, put up "Us / Opens Thurs 3/21". Added the 'now playing' snipe to the Five Feet Apart poster outside.

Cleaning lights on for the night? :

Additional Notes: remember — the Cat Video poster snipe outside needs to be changed to 'Now Showing' in the morning tomorrow (poster can come down on Monday).

** does somebody want to start moving the Oppo over to booth 1 in case Tom decides to go with the blu ray after all?

*** can we please buy a ladder that only the projectionists are allowed to use
