Projection Report 12/11, ADMIN/OPEN/CLOSING, Karen

Presentation Issues:
There were no issues.

Preshow Clips/Playlist:
-I pulled from EVO: Star Wars pre shows (40/20/10), DecB and JanA cards, CatVidFest, KidsinControl, Let the Right One In. The only thing we are missing still are the Hawk's Nest transitionals (Portal Welcome and Feature). I was advised that they will be uploaded sometime in the next few days. We are also still waiting on the Bombshell pre shows.
- I built all A1_121319 playlists and scheduled them through the weekend. All the playlists are now running on-time. None of them are running long.
- I built the Star Wars playlist without the feature and with "Road Warrior" still in the lights down while we wait for "Portal" (the 121919 trailer pack needs the HN swapped out when "Portal" gets uploaded)
- For now, all Scope features will have the masking go to scope at the beginning of the pre show until we have our masking motors fixed. The start of show pack is called ScopeFeatureTEMP_
You can still use the Scope lens/masking change slug right before the feature. It doesn't matter that there will be a redundant cue for scope masking, it's already there, it won't move again.

Trailer Updates:
I pulled Sonic off from trailmix.

Special Events/ AV set up:
The Rachel Music short film needs some lens file love as it is not quite right, aspect ratio-wise, but plays fine. I inquired to Deanna for more details in regards to setup as it is in TH4 and we would need to install spots if they want them.

Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers):

Ordering/Receiving (content):
We received Parasite and Elf (these go live Friday morning at 8 am) keys. They are ingested.
We also received the Elf feature DCP and I have ingested that. (I noticed that a few features were listed on the physical sticker on the drive but not Elf. It was on there, just didn't fit on the sticker, so when we get these combo drives. we need to be sure to look through everything on the scan to see if we have anything else booked)

Outgoing/Shipping (content):

Print/video Inspection:
- I inspected the Rachel Music short films for playback and volume. The "featured" short is a weird aspect ratio which I will deal with during admin hours tomorrow.
- I teched Jumanji for light cues, volume, and assisted audio/captions
- I teched the Star Wars pre shows and all the new content that I pulled from EVO today. It all looks great.
- The pre show is fine with scope masking but I will say that the first run trailers that are running letterbox (or scope in a flat container) look weird with our masking pulled out to scope because it makes the trailer sit in a little black box, framed all around. Matthew, can you remind me to show you the next time you are at NPP?

Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Yes, for Jumanji.

Maintenance/cleaning:
Steve from DMS has been here all day up until 8 pm working on the 35mm projectors in 4 and 6. He is running amperage tests on our sound head lasers and doing A-track alignment with some different sound meters. He left everything out as he will be back first thing tomorrow morning to finish up. The digital sound heads are giving him some trouble in booth 4. He also offered up some wisdom. These can be expanded upon (it was an hour long conversation ) but for the sake of the blog, I'll be succinct.
1) We should never take apart either the digital or analog sound head to clean it
2) He had quite a bit to say about physical alignment of the laser (likening it to focal length and azimuth angles) and soundtrack delay.
2) only use a DRY q-tip to clean the metal roller opposite the laser and the laser itself
3) don't use any lubricants on the rollers near the sound head (or on plastic rollers inside the projector in general)
4) there are some lateral spring-loaded guides near the sound head and right above the gate that need to spring back at you "insistently and with pep" when you push them away from you. You can and should clean those and lubricate them when you take the trap out. He showed me on projector 1 in both 4 and 6 and they responded a bit sluggishly. (This is something that can cause the film to jump out of the sprockets near the gate).
5) Sometimes, when you mess around with the intermittent (ie. taking it out) you can severely mess with the shutter timing and get shutter ghosting. He showed me how to make big adjustments on shutter timing (beyond using the fine tuning knob on the front of the projector) which I am happy to demonstrate.
6) We should NEVER file our own aperture plate (I know...eyeroll). And whoever is filing the plates should ONLY do it to an RP40 loop NOT while some feature is playing. In other words you shouldn't file a plate to fit a movie, it should be filed to a standard. If you are getting shadowing on a specific print, you can refocus the lamp a bit (which is what Alec and I ended up doing during Marriage Story).
7) Never mess with the metal housing around the lens
8) The proper oil level is different for the Simplex versus the Century
9) There's a slightly easier access point to get oil into the Century instead of inside the front of the projector under the gate. It's around back behind the wheel itself.

Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift):
Yes, checked through the weekend against Matthew's schedule. Scheduler done through the weekend.

Marquee updated?:
Took down "The Lighthouse" from the front

Posters updated?:
Removed "The Lighthouse" and replaced with Jumanji over with "Now Showing" moved Star Wars outside to where Jumanji was under "coming soon", put Oscar Shorts as "coming soon" in lobby vestibule where SW was.

Cleaning lights on for the night?:
Yes

Projectors off for the night?:
Yes

Projection cart by TH5?:
Yes

Nest:

Additional Notes:
-I offered "Elf" as an alternative to Jumanji for staff screenings. The keys don't go live until Friday morning. After I did this, I realized that Alec isn't coming in until 2:30 pm on Friday. I went ahead and made my best guess on volume and lighting cues. Alec, sometime on Friday could you put actual eyes on the feature and double check the cues and volume and confirm credit time and that there is no captions/audio?
