ADMIN/OPEN 2/25

To do this evening/ was completed:
-Delete Coming to America
-Any further prep for coming film week (trailer assignments, EVO downloads, SPL building, cue sheets) I didn't get to do anything in that realm today as I spent all day with DMS.
- Do NOT delete Cat Video Fest off of TMS, but you can take it off TH1 for the rest of the week.
-After closing you can do IMS deletions that are listed under Wednesday on the whiteboard.

Presentation Issues:
-Right before the first round we were getting a ballast power supply error in TH6. The lamp would not light with the same error as we saw in Williamsburg about the LPS failure. Long story short, we eventually found out that the projector was running of off Low Voltage power supply only (plug A) and the dedicated line for the Ballast (plug B) was unseated from the socket in the wall. (Steve had moved the Christie earlier to service one of the 35mm projectors) It did set doors back by 20 minutes for the first round in TH6.
Jerry from DMS did notice that the ballast power supply fan is giving off strange noises, if you put your ear up to the back right panel on the operator side, you can hear a fluttering. He said this may be why we have been intermittently getting the ballast power supply warning. He is ordering a new fan for us to have on standby since the BPS will NOT work if the fan goes out.
**For the rest of the evening, you may have to use IMS to make any manual starts or stops in TH6 (there are no manual starts on the cue sheet, but just in case). It seems that, in the TMS interface, when you completely power cycle the projector, communication between the TMS and the house specific IMS needs to be re-established. The SPLs and some CPL's are all ingesting into TH6 still, an hour and a half later. There are, however, accessible on the IMS.

Preshow Clips/Playlist:

Trailer Updates:

Special Events/ AV set up:
-The Teeling event went well, they wanted to do an impromptu intro before the feature. I told them while I couldn't set up mics on the fly I could pause the playlist and do some manual light controls. That worked out fine.

Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers):
-Premature posters came in

Ordering/Receiving (content):
-Premature popped on eclair, please hold to download.
-ingested keys for The Photograph, good until 3/6
-We still do not have keys for "Come to Daddy" - I have written an email to Eclair digital support

Outgoing/Shipping (content):

Print/video Inspection:

Asset tracking doc updated/checked?:
checked, yes

Maintenance/cleaning:
-Did extensive 35mm testing. I am writing a longer email just about this but here are the highlights: TH4: analog/digital sound good, changeovers good, shutter ghosting fixed, 1.85 lenses are good, still need some filing of aperture plates. 1.85 film masking good. Steve filed down the spindle on the take-up motor of P1 so reels can slide on and off easily.

*This is probably old news to everyone BUT today is the first day I tried to thread something in frame on P2 in TH4. There is no flywheel on the motor. You can still re-set the intermittent by handling the drive belt directly, but the mother in me feels the need to point out, never put your hand near there when the motor is running (or you have just turned it off) and even when it is not running, try to only make contact with the belt and don't get yourself pinched between the belt and the gears.

TH6: analog/digital sound good, the lagging changeover on P2 has been fixed, all changeovers good, 1.85 lens good, aperture plates, need some filing on top and screen left on P2, anamorphic lenses both good, plates good, scope film masking good, focus and framing knobs good, I re-centered the framing knobs on each

*learned some more best practices regarding a couple of things. Best way to stop the motor while film is still in the projector (to avoid scratching), projecting white light onto the screen (never leave the dowser open for more than 10 seconds or you could cause hairline cracking of the lens), how to micro adjust the shutter timing, how to fix a sluggish changeover, how to re-center a framing knob. I will write all these up, anyone who is interested can ask me for a demonstration of any of the above.

Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift):
-Good for today but I didn't get to check tomorrow's

Marquee updated?:

Cleaning lights on for the night?:

Projectors off for the night?:

Additional Notes:
Alec et. al ~
In regards to threading the simplexes, especially going into the analog sound head. What Alec described is completely normal and in fact, the entire purpose of the tension roller in the lower left.

*For anyone interested in why, and I'm talking to all the projectionists, you can keep reading:
When you cold start the motor, the tension roller in the bottom left of the sound house will swing to the right to give slack to the film as it enters the sound head, once the impeding drum head gets going, about 3 - 5 seconds, the arm adjusts the tension of the film as it will run through presentation so there is proper distance from the soundtrack to the LED.
That being said, I did notice that this whole slackening of the film is much more exaggerated than I ever saw it on the projectors at Williamsburg, since DMS was here, I asked Steve about this. He said it's worse the colder the booths are. This makes sense since the booths here are waaay colder than the booths at NWB. And so, since I have shown everyone how to thread these projectors, I am changing my recommendation about the amount of tension when threading through the sound head. I originally told everyone to float that tension arm exactly between the two screws on the backplate, instead, please favor it a bit to the left, just left of center, so that it has more play to the right and can give a little more slack to the film.
