NPP Projection Report 7/16 Open

To do this evening/ was completed:

Presentation Issues:

Preshow Clips/Playlist: There was another complaint during Thor in Theater 1 about the sound. I checked and it sounded fine, dialogue was clear and music/sound effects sounded good. I think a bump to the volume wouldn’t hurt, I changed the cue in the playlist to 5.5.

Downloaded and ingested the 5 min Blaxploitation preshow clip.

Trailer Updates:

Special Events/ AV set up: Devil in a Blue Dress screening went well. Though when I changed over to the second reel, the shutter on projector 1 didn't open, that wire had come loose again. I opened the shutter by hand and reconnected the wire as the second reel played, and it was fine through the end of the show. However, afterward I tried securing the wire better so it wouldn't come loose again, and in the process accidentally disconnected one of the wires for the shutter closing mechanism. The spade connector I had to reconnect it to was at the bottom corner of the changeover box, and it was extremely difficult to connect the wire securely. In the process of trying to reconnect it, the spade in the changeover box broke off, leaving nothing to connect the wire to. Luckily, there was another changeover box sitting right there on the platter which is completely intact, so I removed the changeover box with the broken spade and connected this one. Having the box not fixed to the projector made the wires much easier to connect, so they’re all on securely. I tested the changeovers after fastening the new box to the projector, both opening and closing the shutter, and it worked. So long story short the changeover shutters are working with the button, and projector 1 has a different changeover box on it now.

Also made another adjustment to the trap on projector 2. I noticed the stationary guide disc on the top of the trap in projector 1 had a bit of space between it and the gate band, while the one on projector 2 was completely flush with the band. After the screening I moved the disc on projector 2’s trap over a little bit so it’s not touching the gate band.

I was also still noticing a slight bit of softness on the right side of the screen from projector 2, though less than previously. I had already removed the soundtrack side studio guide from the trap, but before threading reel 5 of the movie I shifted the other one over slightly which seemed to make the difference.

Maintenance/cleaning: Cleaned both projectors again after the screening. I mentioned this before but it really seems like the trap and gate pad aren’t being taken out regularly to clean. They really need to be cleaned before ever show, and after as well ideally. Scrape the gunk off with a penny, then clean it with a q-tip and 99% alcohol, not an alcohol wipe, those are only 70%. Same goes for the rest of the projector, no wipes, only toothbrush and q-tips soaked in 99% alcohol.
