NPP Projection Report 8/5 Admin

To do this evening/ was completed:

Presentation Issues:

Preshow Clips/Playlist: Noticed two minutes before its first show today that this week's Minions playlist had the R trailer pack built into it. Swapped in the PG pack right before it started, and saved a bunch of kids from seeing the red band Bodies Bodies Bodies trailer. Top Gun had the R trailers, too, which I switched to PG13, before the first show started as well. Please be more careful when building trailers into playlists, this would've been a pretty terrible look (especially for Minions) if I hadn't caught it beforehand.

Downloaded and ingested all new preshow content for next week, built new trailer packs and first run playlists. Also built preshow playlists for Crooklyn, Sundays on Fire, and Days of Thunder. Didn’t build Mo Better Blues, I assume we’ll be getting new preshow for the live music. Likewise No Way Out, waiting for the intro slide still. No content for A League of Their Own and Men in Black yet, so haven’t made those playlists, either.

Switched the preshow for Jungle Fever to the V2 clips.

Trailer Updates:

Special Events/ AV set up:

Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Received See How They Run posters, placed in the caddy.

Ordering/Receiving (content): Received the Days of Thunder print, along with Top Gun by mistake. Attached the return label for Top Gun and left it on the cart in 3/7 for the weekend. Brought Thunder up to booth 1.

Heads up, reels 1-3 and 7 of Days of Thunder have no countdown, just clear leader attached directly to the first frame. When this gets inspected I’ll go over adding footage markers for threading.

Outgoing/Shipping (content): Scheduled a FedEx pickup for Top Gun and Malcolm X on Monday. Top Gun is on the cart in 3/7, please place Malcolm X on there with it once it’s been reinspected. The return labels are already attached to the cans.

Print/video Inspection: Ran a reel of The Fifth Element in Theater 1. Cristina texted me about rattling during heavy bass sections of the soundtrack. I came into the theater and noticed it. It was coming from the subwoofer behind the screen. This was only present during loud parts of the soundtrack with lots of effects. After we finished the reel I looked at Nope and ran a reel of Malcolm X in Theater 1 and waited for parts with comparable bass. I skipped to the mass abduction scene in Nope and listened to the assassination scene in reel 10 of Malcolm X and both sounded fine, no rattling, leading me to believe it was the soundtrack of The Fifth Element. Added the volume cue for The Fifth Element to the preshow playlist.

Teched Wet Hot American Summer in Theater 2, looked and sounded very good.

Cristina watched Off the Charts and its extras in full in Theater 3. I watched some of each to check volume and credits. I missed this part of the extras but apparently one clip was much louder than the others, so Kat will be making a new DCP which should be ready to download tomorrow morning. The feature looked/sounded great.

Got keys for Raiders of the Lost Ark 30 minutes before Theater 1 opened. Checked the DCP quickly, it looked and sounded great. Raised the volume in the playlist to 5.5.

Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Added tracking for Bodies Bodies Bodies, it’s coming on Monday.

Stardust is pending on Deluxe, added info.

Maintenance/cleaning: Jack mentioned in his notes from the Malcolm X screening the sides of the screen from projector 2 were soft during the later reels. I noticed the gate tension had been increased quite a bit (likely left that way after the Good Burger print, which Will noted required some extra tension), and I loosened it all the way and ran reel 9 on projector 2, focus was even. I mentioned this in a separate email but we should loosen the gate tension all the way as a default, and if any tension is required when teching the print make a note with the print. Most prints, I think, look best with the tension loosened all the way in Theaters 1 and 4. If tension is needed, only increase it as little as possible to steady the image and maintain even focus.

Worth noting, I did have to add a bit of tension for The Fifth Element. The knob is set on both projectors as this is the next screening, but I also noted it on the back of the info card taped to the first reel.

Brought some cables under the curtain in 1 from STB back to 4/6, brought two mic stands up from Theater 3, removed the smaller mic holders from all 5 stands and placed them all under the curtain in 1 on the left side of the screen.

Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift):

Marquee updated?:

Posters updated?:

Cleaning lights on for the night?:

Projection cart by entrance?: In 3/7 for the weekend.
