NPP Projection Report Sat. 1/28 Open

To do this evening/ was completed:

PLEASE READ IN FULL: Want to clarify a few things about trailers for special events with intros. Pay close attention to the day of timeline on the event memo when you build the playlist, you will need to use this in conjunction with the trailer list to build it accurately. If, on the event memo day of timeline, "Trailers" is listed after "Ticketed Showtime" that means we play the trailers following Kat's trailer list before the intro. Sometimes there will be another trailer we should play after the intro, which was the case for NeverEnding Story today (Ex. 1 below). The additional trailer will be mentioned by name in the day of timeline on the event memo, after the intro is listed. Sometimes, there will just be one trailer which we should play before the intro to advertise an upcoming screening, as is the case with Jack & Jill next week (Ex. 2 below). This trailer will also be mentioned by name in the event memo. Basically, just make sure the playlist matches the day of timeline on the event memo, using Kat's trailer list to know the content to use which is not directly named there. Here's two examples:

Ex. 1: Day of Timeline (NeverEnding Story)

11:35am - Theater doors open

11:35am - 12:05pm - Generic All Ages Pre-Show

12:00pm - Ticketed Showtime

12:05pm - 12:10pm - Trailers - Trailers from Kat's trailer list play here (Winter Welcome thru Horror Policy)

12:10pm - 12:15pm - Introduction by Desmond Thorne (1 mic, stage left spots, blue wash, “The NeverEnding Story” Slide up) (5 mins)

12:15pm - ANASTASIA Trailer - Play after intro before feature

(3 mins)

12:18pm - THE NEVERENDING STORY start time

(102 minute runtime)

02:01pm- film end time - guests depart

Ex. 2: Day of Timeline (Jack & Jill)

8:05pm - Theater doors open

8:05pm - 8:35pm - preshow notes: see Kat’s Trailer list

Trailers: Dreamcatcher only! - NO Winter Welcome thru Horror Policy, just this trailer before intro

8:35pm - 8:45pm - introduction notes (special slide, 3 mics, spots)

8:45pm - film start time

(91 min.)

10:16pm - film end time

The lamp in the T4 Christie reached warranty hours yesterday evening. I changed it this morning.

I had the same issue with the P1 lamp in T1, had to switch the rectifier off/on to get it to strike. This is becoming a consistent thing, so we will look into it. For now, if you can't hear the lamp attempting to strike when you switch it on and breaker is on remember to open the back door of the lamphouse (it's currently unlocked, DO NOT open this door with the lamp lit!!!) and power cycle the unit on the floor of the cabinet with its switch.

T7 is set for feature content for this week, hopefully our old storage drives are returned to us soon and we won't have to worry as much about server space.

Presentation Issues: During lights down trailers before NeverEnding Story, that ceiling light in T1 started flickering again. What worked for me was disconnecting power to the light cue board at the top of the rack ("MIT A-LMS 24"), then the flickering stopped after I reconnected it to power. Something else I noticed is that this light is the first to shut off at the start of preshow, while the rest of the fluorescents dim in unison. Checking dimmer settings didn't show anything obviously wrong, but there's something up with the dimmer for this light in particular I think. Didn't happen again during the second round M3GAN. Here's a picture of the power cable at the back of the rack if this reoccurs before we get a change to look into it further after the weekend:

Preshow Clips/Playlist: Added the intro slide to the NeverEnding Story playlist. Was this removed at some point? Also rearranged trailers, it needed the 5 min of trailers from Kat's list, then the intro, then the Anastasia trailer. I made a new playlist without intro slide and Anastasia trailer for tomorrow's show.

Trailer Updates:

Special Events/ AV set up: Checked Dr. Strangelove before the theater opened. It is 1.66, so I changed the lens/masking change pack to that one. It can sometimes be hard to tell with films like this (was screened on release in 1.85 in the US, standard flat widescreen for here, and 1.66 in Europe, which was the flat widescreen standard over there). I also bumped the volume to 5.8 in the playlist.

Thanks Jack for running loops and cleaning the projectors last night! Just a reminder to always set the framing knob to the middle of its range before running loops.

NeverEnding Story went well! Had to crank this one, big crowd and a seemingly quieter print in general. Played it at 10 on the 500 and 9.5 on the 750. Projectors have been cleaned.

DJ set in Trees went smoothly. However the bin in the closet was missing both XLR cables, the power strip, and the extension cord. Please return absolutely everything to this bin when you are breaking down an event. It should contain: 2 XLRs (25'), 1 XLR to RCA, 1 XLR to 1/8", a power strip, an extension cord, the key for the Trees rack (alcove under bench), a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, and a USB-C to HDMI adapter, and 2 mics. Just defeats the purpose of having these if stuff still ends up scattered around the theater.

Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers):

Ordering/Receiving (content): Ingested Clueless keys! They open tomorrow night at midnight.

Outgoing/Shipping (content): Ripped the video file off the blu-ray for the 2/21 event. This is super early so no rush to convert the DCP. The file is PART-TIME_Nitehawk Screening.mkv on the Projection Mac Server drive. It's three shorts in one file, the first two intentionally scaled down within the 2.00:1 frame so they're surrounded by black on the sides and bottom. This is how the host wants them to be presented.

Print/video Inspection: Inspected the second reel of Dreamcatcher, excellent shape. Also wound the mystery reel of Animatrix back onto its shipping reel.
