Projection Close 4/30 Lillian

To do this evening/ was completed: Posting this a bit earlier than usual since we're cruising at this rate. Shut down T4 early since no one came in for the last round of Air

Presentation Issues: No presentation issues. Kept an eye on 3/7. Checked in on T2, no leak has resumed.

Preshow Clips/Playlist:

Trailer Updates:

Special Events/ AV set up: Started the DCP process for the rental on 5/8 (Wakanda Forever). Ran through MKV, now it's processing through Handbrake. I'll check in on this tomorrow.

Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers):

Ordering/Receiving (content):

Outgoing/Shipping (content): Jumanji is ready to get picked up. I sent an email out to John since it's a Sony situation.

Print/video Inspection: Inspected The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk, which will be a very fun show, despite the fact that this print has certainly seen better days. This film looks really cool. Full report here. This is an AGFA print and they tend to come a little rough n ready, so I had to bend the shipping reels/inspect at a 90 degree angle to prevent further damage, which is what we'll have to do during outbound protocol. It happens.

Maintenance/cleaning: Jack had a hard time getting a smooth wind in T1 whilst re-inspecting and packaging up Jumanji. After reading Alec's blog I wanted to check out the bench anyway, and to my surprise, the friction clutch that was far too tight. The knurled nut that holds the spring in place had nearly bolted the spring to the pressure plate(s). Adjusting the nut can both increase and decrease tension. There was also a bit of fluff inside, some dirt and oil too. I cleaned, re-oiled, adjusted the plates and nut. This is why general Kelmar maintenance is a necessary thing. The felt pads will shed, the plats will wear down, dirt/oil/residue builds up and locks into everything. I added photos and videos to the Photos app ~ 4/6 comp.

Fig. 1 before cleaning.

Next two images show what the knurled nut and spring looked like before adjusting/cleaning. It was way, way too tight. The spindle was struggling, the pressure plates too. That much tension could snap a print. I don't know how this came to be, but the nut should never be that low.

This last image is after adjusting the knurled nut/spring.

I will mention that whilst this helped with finishing up the last few reels of Jumanji, all reels were pretty warped, which is what made things difficult to being with. I didn't notice until I got it up on the bench and saw how much the print looked like ocean waves.

I thought about different speed options, but ultimately settled on using the guide roller anyway, with exactly 24 percent speed for most of the reel(s), then decreasing the speed to 8 percent towards the end.

One more thing- the spindle for the friction clutch has worn down, has a slight notch in it. All of the above plus a warped print makes for a difficult rewind.

Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Yes. We're good for tomorrow.
