NPP Projection Report 6/20 Admin

To do this evening/ was completed: Guardians 3 got taken off the marquee but the poster is still up, can this get replaced with The Flash tonight?

Matthew sent out an updated film schedule today. These updates can be made to the cue sheets and TMS schedule tonight. Tonight should also be a good night to go through the cue sheets for next week and tie up as many loose ends as possible.

God of Cookery can be inspected as well.

I ripped the Now and Then DVD for the private event next Thursday. The framerate was kinda confusing since the MakeMKV file was 30fps. Left it that way when I put it through HandBrake but when I got it in DCP-o-matic the video played sped up and the audio was out of sync. I'm reconverting it through HandBrake, changing the framerate to 24fps. I generated a preview and put that into DCP-o-matic and the video/audio played at the right speed and were in sync, so this new DCP file should work. It's on the booth 1 iMac desktop. It should finish converting by 8.

Presentation Issues:

Preshow Clips/Playlist: Downloaded and ingested the Satirical States (V2) trailer. Backed up more preshow clips.

Trailer Updates:

Special Events/ AV set up: Had my first platter walkthrough/training session with McKegg down in booth 1. Went very well! I basically walked him through the threading pattern step-by-step, so he got a feel for how it's done and how the mechanisms work. Stayed for all the film to go through the projector and to show McKegg what happens when the film finishes.

Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers):

Ordering/Receiving (content): Jaws DCP came through Deluxe server, ingested it directly to Th1. There's a 5.1 OV and a 7.1 VF, so the 5.1 version can be deleted once both finish ingesting.

God of Cookery (July Sundays on Fire title) print arrived.

Outgoing/Shipping (content): Reinspected and packed up Body Parts, pickup's been scheduled for tomorrow.

Print/video Inspection: Ran a reel of Alien from L.A. and Shanghai Express with Cristina. Both prints look and sounds really good.

The titles on Alien are printed pretty close to the edge of the frame, I'm going to adjust the film masking 1.85 preset wider and we'll use that for this screening. The opening logo gets cut off on screen, too. I thought the wrong lens was in for a second but it's definitely 1.85. The actual film looks good, so no biggie.

Shanghai Express has a bit of black on the right edge of the image on screen (at least from P1, I'll run a reel on P2 tomorrow to check), despite the loop being perfectly centered on screen with the 1.37 lens. Don't think we need to fret about this for the screenings really, just something to be aware of.

The note card/inspection report for Alien from L.A. had the sound format down as SR. I don't know how this conclusion was reached but this is definitely Dolby A. There was pretty much no info regarding the soundtrack on the leaders, but I think I saw "stereo" written on the tail leader of reel 5, usually a reliable indicator that it's Dolby A. What gave it away for sure though was when I looked at the end credits on the bench:
See the circled "Recorded in Ultra Stereo," this was a stereo sound format used by a lot of smaller budget productions in the late 80s and early 90s. It was made to be compatible with Dolby A decoding.

As a rule of thumb, SR prints will usually be indicated specifically as such on the head and/or tail leaders--either with "Stereo 'SR'" or "Spectral Recording" labels on the edges of the leader.

Asset tracking doc updated/checked?:

Maintenance/cleaning: I checked out the lamps in Th1 and Th2 for the flickering. When these were installed I think the cathode wire and nut were not tightened fully, they were a bit loose. We shouldn't need to loosen the cathode wire when changing a lamp, just the nut. That and running the auto LampLOC a few times and giving the bulbs some time to warm up in between seemed to minimize the flickering quite a bit. In any case, I got an X sensor failure warning on both projectors. I let DMS know about this and that flickering is occurring in both of these houses. Hoping to hear back about this (and the Th6 storage and Th1 HDMI) very soon.

Did another scratch test on P1 in Th1. It looked good. I'm going to be a stickler about gate tension when we run Oppenheimer, though. We shouldn't need to add any with the knob; excessive tension will risk scratching the print and damaging the SRD track especially as we run it repeatedly.

Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Filled in credits timing for Shanghai, there are no credits really, we can just bring the lights to preshow level for 5 ish minutes as people exit the theater (but with the numbers this is at now it probably won't even take that long for the theater to clear--which is such a shame!)

Marquee updated?:

Posters updated?:

Cleaning lights on for the night?:

Projection cart by entrance?: Yes with Body Parts on board.
