NPP Projection Report 5/24 Open
To do this evening/ was completed: The whole fiasco of the last couple days hasn't been detailed in a projection blog yet (fair enough, we had no internet), so for the sake of record keeping here goes:
-On Thursday night the network went down (this was pinpointed to 7:57pm), which caused the whole building to lose access to the POS system, and the projection networks were also acting up. We could not access any server controls and when we tried to make adjustments manually the equipment wasn't responding the way it should. Ultimately all screenings were salvaged with the exception of Shouting at the Screen as Will got stuck on a pause cue in the playlist which he simply could not advance past.
-The next day/yesterday/Friday we were still unable to get the network functioning again. Lillian and I removed all projection equipment from the main network and connected them to small switches in each booth so we could control everything locally from each booth, with schedules and automations still working as normal. All equipment behaved normally once we did this. This was done by removing the ethernet cable for each piece of equipment (including the rack PC) from the DLink switches on each rack and moving them to the small switch.
-This means nothing is connected to Screenwriter. We have to schedule (and build if necessary) on the IMS pages individually.
-I tested content transfers both between screen servers and from the FilmVault to a screen server (Theater 3). These both worked so we can receive new content, in the event that we need to.
-Deluxe can still deliver us content over satellite. We received City of Lost Children today which I ingested to the LMS. (This was during a brief hourlong period when I thought this whole situation was resolved, though hopefully it actually will be well before this screens, which is 6/2, so i shouldn't be totally pointless having it on the LMS).
-After lots of troubleshooting today, we are in a somewhat better place with the network but still not able to go back to normal service. For the meantime, we will have to continue with the servers and A/V equipment on the local switches.
