NPP Projection Report 3/25 Admin

To do this evening/ was completed:

Presentation Issues:

Preshow Clips/Playlist: Downloaded and ingested the Everything Everywhere All At Once preshow.

Waiting on Morbius preshow to build the playlist.

Trailer Updates: Ingested a new trailer for Sonic 2 and added it to the PG-13 trailer pack. It is technically an Atmos DCP, so the playlists with this pack show up with a purple "A" icon on the TMS schedule, indicating the playlist contains Atmos content. We of course do not have the capability to play Atmos soundtracks, but this doesn’t mean we can’t play DCPs which have that extra information. I watched the trailer in a theater and it sounded perfectly fine, it just plays as a normal 5.1.

Special Events/ AV set up: Set up the spotlight control board and two mics for the Oscars party in Theater 1 Sunday night. Went over everything with Desmond and the two hosts Shay and Allie, they were happy with everything and know what to do for changing lights and sound (mics will stay on, they will just mute the cable TV sound during commercials). It's a similar setup to Spoons, so it should go very smoothly. Everything is under the curtain and the cable TV connection to the projector is ready to go as well.

Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Received posters for League of Superpets and new posters for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Placed the teaser posters for both Unbearable Weight and Everything Everywhere All at Once in the trivia section, put a poster for Morbius and the second release poster for Everything Everywhere in the archive tube.

Ordering/Receiving (content): The Morbius DCP arrived yesterday, I found it in the chef's office. Ingested to the TMS.

Please make a point of checking the Deluxe portal during your shifts for any DCPs which may have arrived or any which have been shipped. If there's a green circle next to the title in the "DCP Status" column, that means it's been delivered and if you don't already see it on the shelf in 4/6 that means it's downstairs somewhere, usually either on the cart, in the kitchen, in the chef's office, at the lobby bar, or in the 3/7 booth, depending on who received the delivery. If there’s an orange circle, that means it’s been shipped. Click on it and copy/paste the tracking number into the asset doc if it’s not there already, and input the estimated delivery date.

Outgoing/Shipping (content):

Print/video Inspection: Teched the Deep Red playlist for Monday and added lighting cues for the credits. It's ready to go. The movie switches from Italian (with English subtitles) to English at certain points, I'm guessing this is due to the restoration, as it probably combined the best sounding elements remaining of the soundtracks resulting in a combination of the Italian and English dubs of the movie. Like most Italian films from this era, it was dubbed in Italian for the domestic audience and dubbed in English for the American/UK release.

Looked at the Labyrinth DCP in Theater 2 with Desmond, it looks great. Opening credits contain a really weird looking CGI owl I don't remember from watching this movie many times as a kid, and it seems the opening scene has been changed. It is George Lucas, after all...

Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Yes, updated info for Morbius as well as from Labyrinth and Deep Red techs.

Added tracking for Magic Mike XXL and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (which is on a combo drive with the whole trilogy), they are both coming on Monday.

Maintenance/cleaning: Started an inventory of backup equipment. Just taking notes in my notebook for now but will type it up into a Google Sheet when I’m done, which will likely be during my shift tomorrow. Already looked through everything in booths 1 & 2, which is where most of this stuff resides, though there may be some stray things in 4/6, but other than that it will just be inventorying what supplies we have. A few things I found today worth noting:

  • There were color ID rings for the wireless mics, these go over the charging point on the mic so they would have to be put on before giving the mics out to talent if being used. They may be useful for identifying mics from the booth for multi-person Q&As. I labeled each panel for the four mics on each rack with a color, so just match the color ring to the number on the panel/mic should anyone choose to use them.
  • Found 2 SDDS soundtrack readers in the cabinet in Booth 1, don’t know if they are even functional or if it will be possible to set them up with the Dolby Digital readers already in place on each 35mm projector, but I’ll look into it. Would be cool to have even if it’s just in one theater. Connecting them to the sound processor may be something I’d need help with if using them is even possible. Not at all a pressing project as we’ll always be able to play the analog track on an SDDS print, though.
  • Lastly, there are the two Xenon bulbs in the 35mm projectors in booth 2 which I should remove to keep as backups, these should fit in any of the other 35mm lamphouses.

Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Filled in credit timing for Deep Red.

Marquee updated?:

Posters updated?: Replaced the Northman poster in the lobby with Morbius. We should prioritize titles opening soonest for coming soon posters.

Cleaning lights on for the night?:

Projectors off for the night?:

Projection cart by TH5?:

Nest:

Additional Notes: The Jujutsu Kaisen soundtrack is mixed weirdly, it’s 5.1 but the mix seems to favor the front speakers, for example the song during the scene before the title card is largely mixed to the front, leading it to sound a bit flat. I definitely heard sound coming from the surrounds so it’s not a problem with the sound system or the processor, just a weird mix.
