NPP Projection Report 10/17 Close
To do this evening/ was completed:
Presentation Issues: There were many issues with this evening's scheduled New Class shorts program for NewFest but of all that caused us trouble it was Netflix and its NewFest constituents wanting to complete a full tech run before the show was meant to start. They arrived shortly after 5:30PM to begin this, but not even this two hour block was enough time to properly go through each short (there was a lot of pausing, rewinding, forwarding, and adjusting volume levels for each film, all of which had already been done in advance -- we made them aware of this -- and added to the show playlist that was built specifically for this event) before the doors were meant to open. Once Lillian and I ran into the issue with a short about halfway through the show playlist (it kept looping back to the start and would not allow us to advance the automation to the next film) we were delayed further and this was exacerbated by the NewFest people insisting that we continue QC'ing the rest of the program despite our already having totally blown past the pre-show and intro start times on the cue sheets in the midst of trying to troubleshoot the issue with the film file. The MODs were forced to cancel the final round in 1 because of this egregious delay and, as Alec mentioned in his previous blog post, Netflix decided to cut all the content out of the program and skip straight to the Q&A despite our having found a solution to the playback issue once we rebooted the server. All of this came at a tremendous amount of personal frustration as the NewFest people were being stubborn and combative and didn't seem to want to listen to reason even though Lillian and I were being as polite, constructive, and informative about the issues we were having.

Special Events/ AV set up: All XLR cables/mics used in theater 1 were returned to booth 1 and to their respective storage containers in 4/6 (the mic setup in 3 was left as is for the intro tomorrow; theater 1 will have both an intro and Q&A but will only need wireless mics -- at least for now)

I broke down the setup at Trees Lounge and returned all XLR cables to 4/6 but left the turntable on the bar stools by the projector screen; I am not sure if NewFest will be using this again in the next two days

Print/video Inspection: After the Q&A panel in theater 1 wrapped I met with Desmond to QC Wendell and Wild and to see if the New Class show playlist would run without error (it did -- the issues we had with the content during the tech run seemed to disappear with the server reboot -- though I wouldn't be surprised if our fussing with the automations at Netflix's insistence prior to the show played a role in creating the problem we ended up having to troubleshoot). Following this tech I played a first run feature to see if the content on the server would still run normally and it did without any issues
