NPP Projection Report 3/20 Close

To do this evening/ was completed: The Holy Mountain was ingested locally to theater 5; the external hard drive (DCP III) was left connected to the projector overnight to allow the file to transfer completely

Presentation Issues: A guest asked for a closed captioning device during the pre-show for the final round of Shazam! Fury of the Gods in theater 1 so I brought one down and set it up for them. I explained to them that it would not start working until the feature began. A few minutes after the feature started I got a call from the MODs that the guest complained it was not working (that it just kept reading "Dolby Captiview Ready" but did not display any closed captions). I went down to the theater with a second closed captioning device and tried getting that to display captions to no avail. I then went up to the booth to reset the Fidelio device connected to the rack and, after three power cycles and three failed attempts to get captions on the device screen, I called MODs to let the guests know I could not fix the issue.

While this was occurring in theater 1, the audio in theater 3 (Vigilante screening) was slowly going out of sync with the picture. I was promptly alerted by the MODs and John Woods about this issue. I went into the theater to check on this and saw that the audio was delayed by about a second, despite the film having started with both elements in sync, it had begun to drift out of sync just after the opening credits (roughly 3 minutes into the film) and was getting progressively worse with each subsequent scene. Wyatt made an announcement to the crowd that the film would be restarted. I brought the house lights up after closing the dowser, rebooted the sound processor and started the feature file over from the beginning. This attempt failed to have any effect and the audio started to drift out of sync again at the same spot it previously had after playback began. John Woods then opted to move the Q&A up during the break since some guests had already started leaving and asking for passes. During this time I continued troubleshooting the issue with Jack and Lillian via text and then over the phone with Lillian, who was looking up links online where I might be able to stream the film and connect it to the projector through HDMI (Tubi and YouTube were considered, but Tubi is ad-based and I did not want to risk having an ad break in the middle of the film + the film was also available on YouTube but Lillian did not find it until after I resumed playback on the CPL). I ejected the show playlist and loaded the feature as a CPL in the hopes that this might foster some change in playback. I rebooted the sound processor a second time after the Q&A wrapped up and resumed the film but unfortunately this had no effect and the picture and sound were even more out of sync. John and the MODs decided it best to cancel the show since it had gotten to be so late and passes were handed out to the remaining guests

Update: I tested the feature file again in theater 3 as I was breaking down the microphone/XLR set up and the film went out of sync as described above; I think the DCP file was simply corrupted
