NPP Projection Report 8/16 Admin

To do this evening/ was completed:

Presentation Issues:

Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built and scheduled the playlist for the Mo’ Better Blues preshow.

Checked first run playlists for next week, the Beast playlist had the Bodies Bodies Bodies preshow, though the Beast and Idris Elba preshow clips had been ingested.

Trailer Updates:

Special Events/ AV set up:

Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers):

Ordering/Receiving (content): Ingested The Goonies to Theater 2.

Ingested both subtitled and dubbed versions of Dragonball Super, sent both versions of the DCP to all 7 servers.

Point Break print arrived.

Outgoing/Shipping (content):  DHL will be coming tomorrow to pick up Jungle Fever and Crooklyn.

Print/video Inspection: Finished inspecting No Way Out, it’s overall in good shape.

Reinspected the last two reels of Days of Thunder, both of which had problems going through the projector last night. Both reels had lots of sprocket repairs, and weakened sprockets in general. A lot of the repairs were pretty bad, the sprocket holes weren’t cleared and there was often two layers of tape covering them. My guess is it was either a bad repair or a weak sprocket hole which disengaged from the teeth in the projector, causing the loop to disappear and the tension to be lost around the sound drum (hence the droning sound). What I inspected of this print (reels 2 and 3) was in pretty rough shape with lots of sprocket repairs and missing footage. If you ever inspect a print with heavy sprocket damage like this one, check that the existing repairs do not block the holes too much, if there is unbroken tape on both sides of the edge, punch the holes clear with the splicer.

Began inspecting Out of Bounds, looks like quite a nice print!

Maintenance/cleaning: I ran the Dolby channel test in Theater 3 to hear what’s going on with the back surrounds. They sound muffled and tinny. We have one spare surround speaker which is fully assembled, but it’s a different model than the ones in Theater 3 and requires a different mount which we don’t have. I tried replacing the woofer in the right rear surround speaker but it made no difference. The only other replacement pieces we have on hand are diaphragms but I don’t have the proper tools to align it correctly were I to replace it. I asked DMS if they had any suggestions and they suggested turning the gain knobs on the amp left and right quickly as they can get dirty which can affect the sound output in the theater, and to reboot everything. I tried both of their suggestions with no luck, so I wrote them again to see what they say. I listened to a a bit of a movie with 7.1 audio to see how it sounds with content playing, and while it’s noticeable it doesn’t ruin the soundtrack. I also checked the channel alignment on the Dolby application, and the level for both the rear surrounds was cranked up all the way. I brought it down, which obviously didn’t fix the issue, but they’re at a better level now.
