NPP Projection 5/7 (Alec x Will) Mid-Shift/Close
To do this evening/ was completed: Officially heard back about the DCPII drive, they said it's toast, basically. I let the cinema team know. -AL
Presentation Issues: Ultimately wasn't a presentation issue but it sure came close: Theater 6 went "offline" during the second round feature. The movie kept on playing so I waited until it finished to power cycle the projector and server. Thought that would be it and next round would be fine. However I got an error on the IMS webpage after starting back up, it said "Software/firmware mismatch, reinstall IMS3000 bundle." Rebooted the projector/server after that and was able to play content again. Started the third round preshow just a few minutes late. Wrote DMS with all the details about this. Mentioned the T1 dowser issue too. -AL

Outgoing/Shipping (content):
Print/video Inspection: Spent the better part of four (possibly five) straight hours inspecting The Amazing Spider-Man 2 this evening which turned out to be an amazing pain the ass. It was very clearly plattered during its initial run, hence the edge damage and ceaseless light horizontal scratching on the sides of the frame throughout, but is in good condition overall. Whoever ran this last was L-A-Z-Y and didn't even bother to splice back the heads and tails...they connected everything with masking tape which left a bit of residue at the beginning and end of each reel. At certain points throughout the print, this person in question seemed to have cut certain scenes diagonally with scissors...at random...even though there was no need to??? And again repaired these seams with more tape. A lot of putting Humpty Dumpty back together again with this one. Reels 5-8 (of 8 reels, an unforgivable length for a Spider-Man movie, I mean, my God) had mismatched heads and tails so no two ID frames lined up with the film that came before it. To make matters even more confusing there was at least two additional reels' worth of duplicate film that was spliced at random into these reels (looks a lot like reels 3 and 4 were taken from other prints and added in...for some reason...I have no idea why any self respecting projectionist would so ignorantly repackage a film, even if it was shown off a platter) so you can imagine how this complicated the process of figuring out where the parts of the film started and stopped. This extra film is on house reels on top of the boxes the print was shipped in. Ultimately, I lined everything back up, so now all film heads and tails correspond with their respective reels and, hopefully, there are no scenes missing. I let Alec know to take a look at 5-8 some time before this print needs to be shown since that's where the issues began. Anyway, I resent Sony for holding on to the rights to Spider-Man and for green lighting these installments, Marc Webb for directing them, and my fellow projectionist(s) out there for doing such a hack job of returning the print to its shipping reels.
