NPP Projection Close 8/9



To do this evening/ was completed: Basically just Odyssey 35mm tonight. Both shows went smoothly but there were some projector issues.

The first issue was a bit of a darkening across the bottom of the screen. Will ran loops after Citizen Ruth and was having issues with darkness on the sides of the screen so he loosened the lens collar knob inside the projector, but this caused the bottom of the image to darken:



What you see is not the frame line creeping up at the bottom: framing was correct. 

Tightening that lens collar knob seemed to diminish the issue significantly but did not fully get rid of it. I tried to adjust the other lens knob above the lens that shifts the picture horizontally but this didn't do anything.

The second issue of the night was me noticing toward the end of the first show that the roller at the bottom of the projector was not spinning at all. I could see that the film was cutting into the inside of the roller, creating a groove that the film was nestling inside of. You can see the cuts in the second picture below, on the left side of the roller.





I went through my threading path videos of Wednesday 8/5 shows and it looks like those shows also had the same issue, the same roller remaining stationary, not spinning. I tried to apply some WD-40 to the metal spindle per Alec's instruction but that didn't help really. Could be that it just wasn't enough. I was about two minutes away from showtime. Alec told me this roller will have no impact on the image itself--and I made sure to check the film repeatedly as it moved toward the take-up platter: no scratching whatsoever--but that it can wear on the digital soundtrack over time if we don't get it to spin. To my eye the soundtrack area of the film strip isn't really coming into contact with the roller right now but still obviously needs to be fixed. Cleaned projectors at end of the night.

To do this evening/ was completed: Double confirmed with Chris and folks that the print of Vicious Lips is, in fact, Vampire Lovers. They are in the process of sending Cyborg. NPP Projection Report 11/23 Open

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Checked the Home Alone DCP ahead of the private event this morning, no issues. The party was a bit late seating, so the movie start was a little bit delayed. Overall it ran smoothly. Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Kat will be making a DCP of Guardians of the Galaxy tomorrow for the private event in T1 on Tuesday morning. Chenelle will get the blu-ray sent over here for us to have as backup. I set up the blu-ray player so it's connected to both the monitor and the projector, in case we end up needing to use the blu-ray. I sent Lillian and McKegg an email about this separately. I checked the scope blu-ray projector channel in Theater 1 and it's good to go should we need to screen the blu-ray. I started the DCP of Death Race 2000 on the T1 Mac. NPP Projection Close 9/6

To do this evening/ was completed: Built more SE playlists: Godfather III, Triplets of Belville, Tropic Thunder (SAT), Mimic, Sundays on Fire, Thelma and Louise.  Made a DCP of Ramona Slick's song for the Thelma show. I couldn't locate the Curtain Call/Breakdown DCP Alec made when searching for "curtain call", so I went through the transfer history and saw that it had been ingested. Nevertheless when I searched for it it wouldn't appear. So I dragged into the Share folder and didn't receive any message about the file already existing there. Re-ingested. Went to inspect Vicious Lips but it turns out that we were sent a different print inside of cans labeled "Vicious Lips". The print is a movie called The Vampire Lovers. I looked at the first two reels while I watched Vampire Lovers on Dailymotion and it's for sure the same film. Emailed Cristina.
