NPP Projection 5/31 Close

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Tech'd Mission: Impossible 8 between rounds in theater 2 and, while the volume is fine at 5.3, I could hear the subwoofer being pushed to its limit during the submarine sequence which begins around 90 minutes in but, aside from that, seemed to play without any issue in other parts of the film (I also tech'd this feature in theater 1 but did not notice any additional crackling or rumbling in the surround sound speakers or subwoofer) Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Spoke with Mr. John Gulick over the phone regarding a private event on 6/9 and advised him on the best possible means of delivering us the film file he will be screening (this is a QT ProRes 422HD 1920x1080 file which is roughly 60GB in total...nothing out of the ordinary for us but the filmmakers want to have it sent as securely as possible so I recommended asking if the post house could send it through Deluxe or, alternatively...

NPP Projection Open 5/31

To do this evening/ was completed: Somewhat busy morning. Handful of technical blips. First: T7 IMB was down when I got in. I tried to initiate a marriage through the Christie Service setup but could not click "next" to advance past the first prompt. So I decided to power-cycle the projector and that resolved the issue. Put Friendship on screen to test the server and it played fine. I did notice a relatively decent amount of empty space at the bottom of the image--the lens file just hadn't been expanded enough, so I adjusted it. All good. Plenty of time before the first round started. Then I got walkie'd by MOD informing T2 preshow had started but the lights had not gone down--they remained on the CLEANING setting, so I just brought them down manually. Tested the all of the settings, they are fine and responsive. But I haven't experienced that specific T2 glitch before. Then MOD forwarded an email from a patron saying that there was a loud, persistent rumbling/rat...

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built and scheduled This Day and Age . Downloaded and ingested all new preshow, trailers, and PSAs from the new trailer list. We have new HN clips, new book and how to order PSAs, and a new theater policy. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content):  Outgoing/Shipping (content): The Women is packed up and ready to go out after the weekend. Print/video Inspection: Teched This Day and Age , The Queen , and The Matrix Revolutions . I also checked volume for Batman Begins myself. Noted the levels for all and updated playlists where applicable. I put the first reel of  Matrix Revolutions  back on the shipping reel it came on. Left a note that only R1 has been inspected on the box. There was an excessive amount of tape on the T4 port glass for the 35 projectors. Make sure you're using the "masking FILM 137" preset for 1.37 ...

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Set up mics and chairs in theater 1 for the It's All Gonna Break  event + John Woods was on site to provide assistance during the intro and Q&A (screening and Q&A went smoothly and the latter was recorded to the booth 1 desktop) Gwendoline  screening and Zoom Q&A in theater 3 this evening went swimmingly (the guest, actor Brent Huff, had a little difficulty hearing since there was a bit of an echo on his end of the call but Cristina made it work + the room looked very dark with house lights up so I tried bringing them up to the cleaning level as guests stood to ask questions but it made very little difference on the webcam image) and all gear was returned to its proper storage Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Received posters for The Conjuring: Last Rites  and stored them behind 3/7 Ordering/Receiving (content): Downloaded and...

To do this evening/ was completed:  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Made the OCAP version of Bring Her Back playlist and switched it out in the schedule for those showtimes. Cleared several outdated event playlists and associated content off the servers. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up:  Gwendoline Q&A: -I set up everything for the Zoom Q&A in T3 tonight. I set up both the PA speakers for the mic; one in the front corner of the room and the other in the back with cables taped to the floor for the one in the back. I set up both to make sure it's really audible over the Zoom call. On the mic mixer under the curtain, I turned the master volume all the way down. Make sure you turn it up to the marked level before the intro. -There is a Zoom link already made for this later which has been sent to the special guest. Join on the 3/7 PC toward the end of the movie. The PC is connected to the projector, so make sure you have the laptop handy for any con...

To do this evening/ was completed: Spent most of the evening handling film. Re-inspected Look Who's Talking, put the first four reels of Batman Begins on house reels and had a smooth screening of The Women, which is heads out, can get re-inspected soon. One note about The Women :   the image was vertically bouncing a little bit on both projectors. Tried increasing gate tension but didn't stop the bounce. Made DCPs for the Bound intro and breakdown slides. Ingested. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Yes Marquee updated?: Posters updated?: Cleaning lights on for the night?: Projection cart by entrance?: Additional Notes:

To do this evening/ was completed: Just in response to last night's blog - The captions in T3 are working just fine. I moved the USB from the esata port to the usual USB...tested a few DCPs with the closed captioning device. Not sure why the stick was in the esata.  As for the Digital Link, that is also working fine, the ethernet cable just wasn't attached.  Tech'd and built the playlists for Gwendoline and It's All Gonna Break . Updated the cue sheets for these, too. KDM for Bring Her Back opens tomorrow!  Staff Screenings have been emailed out, scheduled on the LMS and blocked on the calendar. I added an encore screening for Lilo n Sitch and MI8 since we only had one day last week due to the wifi outage. These will be tomorrow, not Friday, so that there's not too much going on at once.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Ingested the DCPs for Bring Her Back . Built the playlists and updated the LMS.  Built playlist for City of Lost Children and He...

To do this evening/ was completed: A fairly busy evening shift here, felt like old times working a Tuesday night. Some little hiccups, but nothing that wasn't handled!  Presentation Issues:  Got walkie'd that the digital link for the connection to the Verizon TV in Trees is not working, but the HDMI 2 and Plex stuff is working, but something must have happened in the Internet kerfuffle. If someone could take a look at that tomorrow morning that would be great!  I set up a closed caption device down in Theater 3 for the last round of Sinners. Right before Look Who's Talking was about to begin, I got walkie'd that it wasn't working. I went down there with a new device that I checked to see that it was working and swapped it out. As I was walking away with the "broken" one, I saw that it was presenting the captions fine.  When I went to get the swapped out device, a server told me that the guest had trouble with that one too, but he didn't inform anyone u...

To do this evening/ was completed: Alec reconnected all of the IMSs to Screenwriter this morning. Changed out the outgoing posters, with the exception of Minecraft, as I could not get that case open and had to move on to other things, so that still needs changed. Downloaded and ingested Heavenly Bodies as well as Phoenician Scheme feature. All 5/30 OCAP playlists built as well as Karate Kid playlists. LMS scheduled for the coming week with a few typical exceptions. Looked at Look Who's Talking and The Women. Volumes logged. Ran loops afterward in 1, projectors set for tonight. Scheduled a Zoom meeting for Thursdays virtual Q&A after Gwendoline. Feature and slide have been transferred to T3. This Day and Age slide downloaded and ingested. Some techs got pushed to Friday ( The Queen, X/1999). To do this evening/ was completed: Inspected the upcoming SoF print and put it on house reels. It's in good condition overall, possibly some fading. Waiting to schedule the upcoming week until we reconnect the IMSs tomorrow. Presentation Issues: Turns out Scanners, at least the DCP we received, is 1:78, not 1:85. Didn't notice at the beginning of the show but came back in 30 min in and noticed keystoning, so I just brought the curtains in. Show went fine. To do this evening/ was completed: Changed the lamp in T6. Looking nice and bright. Checked in on all theatres throughout the day. The plan right now is that Alec will be in tomorrow morning to reset the booths to their normal setup, then he'll be off to Williamsburg. We opened early today, so no point in doing that this morning.  No issues at all.  Tomorrow's shows have already been scheduled, and Alec will get things back to normal early in the day, but double check them when you can as per normal. FYI - tomorrow we have three techs. Two analogue - The Queen/Look Who's Talking. DCP of X/1999 in T2.  Scanners is set for this evening in T2, just adjust volume depending on the crowd.  Ingested all the Karate Kid preshow, new trailers via Deluxe and the new Matrix Revolutions trailer. Precode Parade preshow is in.  Built almost all the new A1 playlists, which we can follow up with the OCAP playlists once we receive the film schedule.  Started on the SE play...

To do this evening/ was completed: No issues on my end, though I did thoroughly check in on the theatres and bar area. Put the game on in Trees. One device handed out.  Continued downloading and ingesting content for the new playlists. We will discuss what to do for playlist building/scheduling. From the sound of it, there needs to be some repurposing and restructuring with the main rack. Tomorrow I will change the lamp in T6. I have been monitoring it since before the outage.  Note for self - CRU drives can go out Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Marquee updated?: Posters updated?: Cleaning lights on for the night?: Projection cart by entrance?: Additional Notes:

To do this evening/ was completed: Lots of running around checking in on each theater. So far all of the screenings have been smooth sailing, with the exception of T3: the server crashed before the first round. I power-cycled the projector and go the show going about 16 minutes after its scheduled start time. Alec will re-connect the IMSs to LMS on Tuesday once the holiday has passed. Inspected Look Who's Talking. I'd say it's near-mint condition. On house reels, inspection report filled out. Ariel the IT technician was able to bring our network back online around 2:00 pm. It dipped in and out once or twice in the morning, then became stable around 2:30. I asked if he could send over a detailed breakdown of his process for our general edification. Started downloading preshow content after print inspecting. The CatVideoFest trailer and slide need to be added to the PG trailer packs, and the rest of the playlists can get built this evening. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/...

To do this evening/ was completed: Thank you, Alec, for detailing what happened. For the morning, just remain on call for various house needs. Keep an eye on T2 - try to be in or near the theatre when it is supposed to automate to make sure it doesn't stall! Thanks for hanging tight, everyone.  This evening, we tried, once more, to power-cycling the switches/cisco as Alec had been doing periodically throughout the day. We let it be once that showed no promise of working, so we connected the temp router back to the Verizon box instead ( so we can use the iMac and what not). I decided to try, later on in the evening, putting the Cisco ethernet cable back into the Verizon box, which did nothing until, about ten or 15 minutes later, had its noisy fan blow again. We'd experienced that before, but normally the fan/drive starts the second its connected/turned on. In any case, this lasted a couple minutes. I have a sneaking suspicion this should be replaced, but I am not a professional...

NPP Projection Report 5/24 Open

To do this evening/ was completed: The whole fiasco of the last couple days hasn't been detailed in a projection blog yet (fair enough, we had no internet), so for the sake of record keeping here goes:  -On Thursday night the network went down (this was pinpointed to 7:57pm), which caused the whole building to lose access to the POS system, and the projection networks were also acting up. We could not access any server controls and when we tried to make adjustments manually the equipment wasn't responding the way it should. Ultimately all screenings were salvaged with the exception of Shouting at the Screen as Will got stuck on a pause cue in the playlist which he simply could not advance past. -The next day/yesterday/Friday we were still unable to get the network functioning again. Lillian and I removed all projection equipment from the main network and connected them to small switches in each booth so we could control everything locally from each booth, with schedules and aut...

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey guys, Spoons wasn't exactly cleaned up properly last night. The ethernet cable wasn't secured behind the wall, the xlr for the left side speaker was slightly tangled in the AJA and power cables on the floor and the wireless mic mixer wasn't exactly right either. When it comes to the wireless mic mixer, please leave the cables attached to their ports in the wireless mic mixer and make sure they're properly coiled. The cables were put in the bin and weren't secured with their velcro ties, so everything was loose. Also, please put the power cable for the wireless mic mixer in the top compartment of its box (the big zip pocket). Sorry for nitpicking a bit, but all of this will make cleanup a lot easier and will keep our equipment in better shape.  Presentation Issues: Got a call from server station in T3 saying that the masking was incorrect for Friendship , which should be 1.66. I went downstairs and saw that it was on 1.37 and im...

To do this evening/ was completed: Unzipping Garden of Cucumbers in T1. Should be ready tomorrow. IYKYK  download was interrupted a few times. It's still downloading now, so should be ready for ingest tomorrow as well. Old 35mm letters down, Look Who's Talking up. Spoons went smoothly, save for the moment the projector shutdown was initiated and the lamp shut off because they went on for so long. I quickly re-struck it and everyone was fine. Broke down all of the equipment afterward, mics and lightboard back in T1 booth. It was cable chaos on the ground so I disconnected the XLRs from everything and put them in the blue bin FYI.   Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Yes Marquee updated?: Posters upda...

To do this evening/ was completed: Weekly Update is out! Please get your eyes on it. Staff Screenings have been scheduled/built out on the LMS, added to the calendar and emailed out. One small ask - I think we should try to routinely plug in the mouse and/or keyboard every night, if possible, just so that we don't ever have to worry about losing a charge at an inconvenient time. Thanks! - Lillian Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Tech'd Lilo and Stitch today. I made an adjustment to the cue sheets, formula, and playlist as the credits properly start about two minutes later and it makes more sense to have the house lights up cue later in the playlist. - Lillian  Keys for Red Shoes open up Friday! - L Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Added Spoons to the LMS as an event. To do this evening/ was completed: NoBudge went smoothly. Returned mics to booth afterward. Recorded Q&A should they want it. We received a print of The Queen. In 4/6 right now, will move to T1 tomorrow. Tried to ingest the Broken Social Scene DCP directly to LMS after the SMB upload failed. The ingest failed immediately. Wasn't able to look into this as this was right before the 35mm show. Dr Phibes went smoothly. I assumed MOD knew there was a holding slide which would be their cue to inform the crowd of reel one static, but they went for it before that, while some final preshow content played, so I just turned the volume down. To do this evening/ was completed: We're all set for NoBudge this evening. Will and I went through the whole playlist together. I only made two slight changes - added a 1min welcome to the top of the preshow so that it hits the allotted preshow time and put a 1.78 lens/masking set right before the intro slide so that it's properly masked (slide is a true 1.78) no need to add it to the end of the show for the Q&A as the last film is 1.78. - Lillian  The Women has been moved to T4 - Will brought the reels up from T1.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Transferred and got our eyes on Colors Within/Killer of Sheep today. Both are unencrypted. Both look and sound good. Playlists adjusted.  - L Look Who's Talking playlist has been built and with the Nostalgia Ultra preshow as per Kat's note from today. - L Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Abominable Phibes is all set (no proper intro, but someone from MOD will make a note about the soundtrack damage...

NPP Projection Report 5/10 Open

To do this evening/ was completed: Regarding hard drive troubles: I spent the better part of the day today working on this, so I'll try to break it all down as clearly as possible. -For starters, we can write to the NTFS drives again. -Most of our external hard drives have always been NTFS formatted. This is the only hard drive format which is read by both the LMS and IMSes. LMS will read exFAT drives as well but that's it. -NTFS is natively Windows-only, but we use a third-party app, called NTFS for Mac, to allow us to read and write to NTFS hard drives on Mac computers (both the 4/6 and T1 iMacs have this installed). -The iOS update must have reset permissions for third-party apps, as NTFS for Mac had some necessary permissions disabled which I believe kept causing the app to crash every time I tried to open it. -I saw the app's icon on the top bar of the screen (which indicates it's running in the background), but every time I tried to actually open the application i...

NPP Projection Close 5/9

To do this evening/ was completed:  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built all rated R first run show playlists for the week of 5/16 and the Paris is Burning  special event playlist for brunch on 5/17-18 (this will need to be tech'd for credits/lights cues) There was not enough space remaining on the George Ivan drive to successfully copy all the "SE/Brunch PreShow" content to it from the P&T drive (that folder requires some 500 extra GB and George Ivan has a little over 200 to spare) so I refrained from partially copying it and/or having the content split on a separate drive and left it as is Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Yes Marquee updated?: Removed Until Dawn and The Shrouds  and added letters for Bonjour Tristess...

To do this evening/ was completed: The rain has been persistent, so we'll be late on changing the marquee and posters. Hopefully it'll subside by tomorrow morning.  This morning Jack was having issues with the computer in 4/6 as all external drives were readable but not writeable. All of these drives were formatted as NTFS and I've been trying to figure out if the OS update has anything to do with compatibility for reading/writing, because they should kind of work in that state on a mac (but some evidence online suggests otherwise and it says Windows NTFS so, you know, that's not ideal) and they want you to use APFS for Ventura (which is what the computer is on now) but exFAT is what we want to use the drives on both macs and PCs. We didn't need anything off the George Ivan drive so I reformatted it for exFAT which made it readable/writeable. The other two external drives, preshows/trailers and VHS Vault, are still NTFS. I copied over the Alice Jr. DCP to George Iva...

To do this evening/ was completed: Our OS in 4/6 has been updated and the Signiant App (for media shuttle deliveries) should be working now. Things look a tiny bit different, really just a small visual shift with the graphics, but that's about it. We're hoping to partner with Signiant/Media Shuttle for future film festival needs (in short - they make the DCPs and we receive/download them). Lots of teching tomorrow. I added a staff screening of News From Home in T4, where we will tech at 1pm. The show will end 13 minutes before we're to tech.  Rebecca (MOD) has the 4k BluRay of  Tremors and will make sure it gets back to the host. Mind you, we have another version in the booth but it is ours.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built the playlists for Final Destination 6 and Friendship .  I scheduled Bonjour Tristesse on the LMS, built out the formula on the cue sheets and filled in the times for the week of 5/9.  FYI- not sure why I didn't receive...

To do this evening/ was completed: Blues Run The Game screening and Q&A went smoothly. Mics returned to the booth. The webcam would not cooperate with me, however. I turned it on and off multiple times and could never get an image on screen. Went to device settings and restarted the camera application, got a notification saying that the webcam had to be given access in the privacy settings of the camera app, which I then disabled and re-enabled to no effect, so. Inspected the rest of The Women. Excellent condition. It is a B&W film, but reel three features a technicolor segment. Don't be alarmed, it's part of the film. Put up new 35mm letters as well as the text John sent over for the Doc and Roll screening tomorrow night. He included a colon in the text but I don't think we have that marquee tile. I left all of the brunch side letters in 3/7 booth.  Bonjour Tristesse staff playlist shows up red on the scheduler, saying the feature file is corrupt. I put the film on...

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey y'all I saw this morning that there was another slide made yesterday for Having Fun with A-holes, but I already made one on Monday so that it would be ready for the tech on Tues. I did put this info in a thread but added it to the blog. Just be sure to double check when you read through the day's work so that nothing gets repeated. Thanks! - L Staff Screenings have been emailed out, blocked on the calendar and built out on the LMS. For tonight, feel free to add the formula for Bonjour T to the cue sheets.
