To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Downloaded and ingested the new forecast. Left the 40min and 20min Generic Brooklyn preshow clips downloading to the DCPII drive at the end of the night. Built new trailer packs and first run playlists for all of next weeks titles, except Who We Are which is arriving tomorrow. Note there are two Jackass  playlists, one with bonus content for the Thursday night shows and one without for all other shows. Scheduled playlists for Thursday 2/3. Trailer Updates: Replaced the Speed Racer trailer with Kaguya in the Sing 2 playlist. Special Events/ AV set up: Speed Racer 35mm screening with intro in Theater 1 went great! Tech screened Speed Racer and Chicago with Desmond--presentation notes below.  Presentation Issues: Scope aperture plates on both projectors in T1 are giving shadow on screen, more prominently from Projector 1. It's not egregious but it's there. Other than that, Speed Racer  print looks and sounds great. Volume at 7.5 on both processors.  Chicago 1.85 masking in T2 is too wide, black bars on both sides of screen. Switched masking to 1.78, which looks good. Updated playlist in TMS. Got a call from Gerard saying that T7 had sound but no image on screen. The projector was displaying an "unexpected light off" warning and the lamp was off. I turned the lamp on, which gave me picture for a moment, then VNC displayed a "ballast communication failure" notification. Forgot to mention this in my blog, but Michael from Spoons came by this afternoon to troubleshoot the audio issues they’ve been having. I figured out a solution which changes the setup somewhat, no existing parts of the setup have changed, it just involves a little extra audio setup. I’ll go over this with Jack before the next Spoons.

To do this evening/ was completed:  Presentation Issues: During Susan  I accidentally hit the changeover button while threading up reel 3--the screen was black for one second before I hit the switch again. To do this evening/ was completed: I tested the show playlist for Minions before showtime in theater 2 this morning and the picture/sound were fine. The DCP backup for  Desperately Seeking Susan looks/sounds great. The mono soundtrack was a bit low so it needed to be played even louder than the print version. I made notes for volume and credit/crawl offset times for Jack to use later if needed. I also ran some alignment loops through both projectors in theater 6 to check how much shadow was cast on screen from each aperture plate; projector 2's is barely noticeable once its pushed in but projector 1's plate definitely needs filing down as it sticks out on the right hand side of the screen -- this isn't exactly a hindrance but is definitely cutting off some of the picture. Gaff tape on the port glass only makes the shadow look fuzzier so I left it untouched to give the shadow a more refined edge beside the curtain Ingested Moonstruck, FebLove, Fun, KillSisterKill 20min/40min

To do this evening/ was completed: I checked reels 3-5 of Casper in theater 6 to try to recreate the sound issue from yesterday and could not hear any buzzing or droning in the speakers. I tried letting the film run with and without the analog sound reader loop secured to it but that didn't have any effect either aside from the usual dip in volume when that clasp is undone; Alec asked that I also try turning on the CNA-200 console to reselect the Dolby-SR sound setting as the film played -- just to see if using it would have any effect on soundtrack playback -- but there was none I screened reel 1 of Desperately Seeking Susan in theater 6 following the Casper  sound check; switched the audio over to mono from the CNA-200 and picture/sound playback was fine -- some slight scratching and crackling throughout but these did not hinder the quality of the projection Presentation Issues: There were various temperature alarms in theater 2 (air intake, card cage exhaust, integrator temperat

It's been covered in the email circulated earlier today but essentially something was consistently amiss with either the soundhead on P2 or the sound processor itself. No issues with Projector 1, each reel I ran on that projector played smoothly. Show ultimately had to be canceled 4/5th of the way through. Cue times for round 3 in T2 were listed incorrectly. Bob ran a loop of film through projector #2 in theater 1 to see how the gate moved and to test the tension against the film strip. He noted how tense the knob was, that there was wear and tear on the sprocket, the GR-234 gear was worn out, and that the gate bands (SH-11) needed to be changed. Moving to theater 4, he tested the voltage coming from the projectors, specifically the part inside it that powers the changeover mechanism, and both showed no signs of power. He asked if I had access to the projector schematics (I did not) and said the circuitry would need to be rewired to allow for the power to feed to the changeover motors. Bob said he would need to come back to properly service the projector in theater 1/potentially rewire the projectors in 4; Alec reached out to Mike about swapping parts from the projectors in theater 4 to use on projector #2

To do this evening/ was completed: I looked at a reel on projector #2 in Theater 1, and the adjustments I made over the weekend seem to have helped somewhat, but there is still a shake in the image, especially when I increase the gate tension. With the gate tension loosened all the way I think it looks OK, the shake is very faint and only really noticeable in moving shots and even then it’s very light, so I have it set that way and I tightened the set screw for it so the knob is stuck in place and the gate tension can’t be increased. I think it’s watchable this way, but I’m hesitant to make a definite decision without a fresh set of eyes to look at it. If we tech the Desperately Seeking Susan print in there this week that would be a good opportunity to determine if we should go ahead with 35mm screenings in this theater.
