Also grabbed the one minute preshow slide and the Woodstock trailer from Dropbox, ingested to TMS and to all screens. Sent  Blinded by the Light , Where'd You Go Bernadette , and Dirty Dancing trailers to all screens as well. Trailer Updates: Rachael walkied me that The Nightingale trailer was still playing in theater 5. Trailer pack had been updated but the replacement trailer ( The Kitchen ) hadn't been sent to most of the servers, so they just reverted to the old version of the playlist. I sent the Kitchen trailer to the remaining servers. I think all current trailers and preshow should be sent to all servers once we get them/know we're using them, TMS does not seem to auto-ingest missing pieces of playlist packs within a show playlist as they are updated. Presentation Issues: No issues. Both 35mm platter shows went very smoothly. Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: I tried to swap out The Nightingale trailer with The Kitchen , as per Kris's request, but I couldn't find the trailer on the TrailMix drive when I went to ingest. This was my first time using Eclair, so I'm sorry if I'm missing something obvious here. Hopefully this can be done before the first round tomorrow. Presentation Issues: Both 35mm shows went very well overall. I noticed early on that the audio for the 6:30 show was playing Dolby SR rather than Dolby Digital. It still sounded great in the theater, so I just lowered the volume slightly. But I'm not sure why that happened - the 9:30 show automatically played the Dolby Digital soundtrack as usual. Presentation Issues: I noticed there was a frame alignment issue in Theater 4 - the image was slightly too small for the screen, and it looks a little awkward. No guests complained, but I couldn't fix it without causing a disruption to the movie. I told Alec, and he will adjust it after the last round tonight. *** Also, a few guests complained about the keystoning issue during Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in Th 1. Dan was with me in the Theater 1 booth and explained that it's not possible to fix this without re-orienting the entire projector, so unfortunately it will have to wait. (It is most noticeable in the 4x3 scenes.) Thank you Dylan P for the email explanation of this as well. Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (35mm). Everything went smoothly apart from the keystoning issue (see above). Presentation Issues: Nothing major, I did notice during the first  Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 35mm show that the foil tape cues on the print cause the Dolby CP500 to switch to "Dolby SR" from "Dolby Digital" momentarily. For less than a second the sound is quite loud before it auto-switches back to Dolby Digital. This only has a noticeable effect during the cue in the credits, as there is no sound where the other two cues are placed. Don't know if this can be fixed at this point but worth noting. Preshow Clips/Playlist: I grabbed the new credits start time for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood . I left the lighting cue as is for tonight and made a new playlist (tagged "072719") which is identical except the lighting cue is a few minutes earlier. I scheduled it through Wednesday and input the new time on the cue sheets Sat-Wed as well. I also updated this cue for the 35mm shows since our automated lighting cue is at the same time as the one on the DCP

Ran plattered, pretty much perfectly — no issues to report. The print looked beautiful on screen, though, there is some pretty significant keystoning in theater 1 that makes the image 'bend' a bit on the right side (just in case a customer complains about that...). Presentation Issues: Our first 35mm show of  Once Upon a Time in Hollywood started 5 minutes late because of a platter issue. We ran the print reel-to-reel and the show went mostly fine. Cleaning lights came up towards the end because Dan turned the automation console on. This was not intentional and I was right there to turn them back off immediately. For regular shows this console will always be on so the cleaning lights will not be triggered at any point during the film. The focus was tricky with projector #2. I was trying to get it to focus throughout the whole show but there was always a part of the screen that remained soft. I find that the best way to get a good focus with the scope lens on this projector is to run test film before the screening, which there was absolutely no time to do today. This will not present an issue for future screenings since we are running the whole film on one projector (Projector #1) which does not have the focusing issue. Second show ran on the pla

Everything should be good to run the platter for the second screening tonight and all future screenings. I will of course keep everyone posted. Presentation Issues: None. Preshow Clips/Playlist: Sent Lion King to Theater 4 for Thursday Adjusted the volume for some of our house made trailers. Most were too loud but Never Fear  was far too quiet. 3.8 tends to be a good volume for these (however they should still be checked once we get them) but in case where the source material is of low quality (such as Never Fear ) is needs to be bumped up. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: 35mm show of Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey in Theater 1. Went great! One more thing about the 35mm projectors, though. I noticed both projectors are not aligned completely with the screen when projecting flat 1.85 films. There is some black on the right side of the screen with both machines. This isn't a plate problem, as I filed the plate using white light on screen before the show and there was still a bit of black when projecting the actual film. Presentation Issues: Sword of Trust was not loaded on Theater 3's server before this morning. The playlist hadn't been scheduled for today or tomorrow, and since these are the only showtimes for this film in theater 3 TMS never triggered the ingest of the feature to this projector. I loaded the playlist to start it manually and didn't notice for a while into preshow that the feature was still loading onto the server. For some reason, the playlist for the second round in theater 3 was scheduled though this was supposed to be a manual start. Manual start shows should never be added to the scheduler. If you need to check the end time, just click on the playlist you need to check, hold, and drag it over to see when it should end and then drag it back, don't delete anything. To make sure all content is ready in a playlist that will be manually started, temporarily schedule it for a time when nothing is playing (early morning/late night). Presentation Issues: The first round of Lion King started right into the feature instead of the preshow. I think this is because the feature file had been loaded into the server, but not ejected — so when the projector hit the scheduled start time, it just played whatever was loaded into the controller instead of the playlist which was actually scheduled. I apologize for not catching that earlier, and for also not knowing this was possible. Fortunately, the problem was discovered after about a minute and I was able to load the actual playlist and time it out correctly pretty quickly. ** TMS froze about thirty minutes before we opened doors. I went to reboot it and it timed out completely and would not restart — the Dell computer in the rack eventually auto-rebooted itself due to 'inactivity'. It was not back on-line until after the first round began. Preshow Clips/Playlist: built a playlist for THE MATRIX: RELOADED, scheduled it in theater 2. Playlist still needs its end

FYI I wasn't actually working the projection shift today but I had a fair bit of stuff to share, that's why I'm blogging... Trailer Updates: Can you guys give a listen to the recent trailers when you get a chance? I was in to see Midsommar the other night in Th3 and a few of the trailers seemed a little quiet. Hobbs and Shaw  in particular could have a little more underneath it. It's not the movie of the year, I know, but action-y trailers like that are a good opportunity to show off our shiny newly tuned sound systems.. We will go over how to make new audio cues in the meeting next week, so we can make incremental adjustments. Special Events/ AV set up: Blu ray player in Th1 is set up to play the backup for  Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey on Sunday morning . Still waiting on the disc to arrive so I may not have time to make a DCP. No issues with presentation and the mic is back in it's charging port in theater 1's booth. A few things about the 35s in there though: The last roller on projector #2 is loose which caused the countdown to get torn on two reels while threading, but I taped it together with paper tape and had no problems threading up after that. No damage to the print during actual projection. I also emailed John Woods about this to send to Paramount. After the screening I tried tightening this roller, but I think it just doesn't fit the arm well, or maybe the screw is partly stripped. I believe that if we are extra careful when threading this

Presentation Issues: Theater 1's lights cut out before seating for The Matrix . This was completely my fault, as I had accidentally and without noticing knocked the breaker for the theater lights to off when I flipped the breaker for 35mm projector #1. I tried several things before I noticed I had accidentally turned that breaker off, so it took me longer than it should've to get them back to normal. In the mean time I was able to get some emergency lights on in the theater so MODs could seat it on time, albeit with slightly awkward lighting. Then I noticed my mistake and they were back to normal a few minutes after the start of preshow. Preshow Clips/Playlist: I adjusted the lights cue for the start of credits for The Lion King , I put it 3 minutes earlier so lights come up at the very beginning of credits instead of when the crawl starts. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: The Cure: Live at Hyde Park in Theater 1, and an afterparty with the projector in Hi-Res. There ended up being no intro so the show ran itself with no issues. Setting up the projector in Hi-res was no problem, but we had some issues with the sound from the HDMI. Presentation Issues: After checking over the playlists and cue sheets yesterday, I was surprised to get a call from the MODs that credit times were off again for some screenings. I realized then that the clock on the TMS is fast by two and a half minutes, which I believe is contributing to many of these cue sheet discrepancies. I've emailed Billy and asked him to check this out tomorrow and recalibrate the server's clock. Preshow Clips/Playlist: The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood  trailer was not removed from the Jaws  playlist when I got in today. For some reason, it was actually about 8 minutes longer than it was supposed to be. I corrected this as soon as I noticed and the rest of the showing went on without incident. I also built and scheduled the playlists for our two special events this week: Fantastic Planet  with Morricone Youth and The Cure: Live in Hyde Park. However, the Fantastic Planet  playlist is not finalized yet, as we're still waiting on Kris to uploa

Presentation Issues: None Preshow Clips/Playlist: Downloaded the Jaws pre-show and added it to the playlist. I wasn't able to get it in time for today's show, but it's set for tomorrow's. For future reference, sometimes when you can't download the whole folder from Dropbox you can just make a folder on the desktop with the same name and download all the DCP files individually to that. Trailer Updates: The Jaws playlist had the red band Once Upon a Time in Hollywood trailer on it, so I made a separate trailer pack for Jaws with the green band version. I think in general it's a good idea to have a separate trailer pack for events to avoid problems like this in the future. Special Events/ AV set up: Jaws in Theater 1, brunch screening. This ran itself, however there was a minute-long black clip at the end of the playlist with a cue to switch the projector back to the flat DCP macro, so at the end of the show house lights were at MID and nothing on the s

Projection Report 7/4 Close

Presentation Issues: None tonight *Responding to Dylan's note from Tuesday (7/2) about Theater 2's server cueing up the playlist but getting stuck on pause; I've seen this happen a few times and only in theater 2. This started happening after Billy added a GPI to all the servers which I believe was to make it so the multiple automation cues at the start of shows fired in succession instead of all at once or too close together, and a part of this function (I believe) was pausing the playlist at the start before the cues fired. This doesn't prevent the playlist from starting properly (the vast majority of the time), so I'm not sure why the playlist sometimes doesn't start itself in 2. It seems to happen completely randomly and after long intervals. I mentioned this in a blog all the way back in January (1/17) and March (3/13). Preshow Clips/Playlist: Scheduled shows for Monday - Thursday. Trailer Updates: Up to date Special Events/ AV set up: None Order

Trailer Updates: Switched PSA_Retro02 with PSA_HeyKids per Kris King's email. Special Events/ AV set up: So today in TH7 we had a private event booked. I had created a playlist for this last week and ingested Spider-Man: Far From Home via SPL ingest. When I loaded the playlist today, it triggered an ingest of  Spider-Man from the TMS to Screen 7. I almost didn't realize since the SPL seemed to ingest fine, but I noticed a red error next to the feature in the playlist. I immediately let Deanna know, took down the preshow so that the ingest would move faster, and put on Spotify through the CP750 so that the party would not be sitting in a dark and quiet theater. The feature ingested by the start time and everything remained on schedule. My suspicion is that someone was clearing off content from t
