NPP Projection Close (McKegg) 1/31

To do this evening/ was completed: Yes Presentation Issues:  Preshow Clips/Playlist: I built the SPL for Women Talking both closed and open caption versions.  I was able to download  10 and 20 minute Everything Everywhere All At Once preshow clips. The 40 minutes wasn't fully loaded onto the projection drive by the time I left. I started building it with those preshow clips. I tried ingesting the clips, but couldn't get them on in time. They are on the DCP drive already and need to be ingested.  Both features need to be tech'd so the proper lighting/volume cues.  Trailer Updates:  Special Events/ AV set up: The Clueless show went great! The preshow tech went swimmingly, with it only cutting a minute into the preshow and then the real deal went terrifically! Great show and everything is broken down and back into its place.  Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): KDMS for EO , Tar , Knock at the Cabin , M3GAN ,  Aftersun and Everythin

To do this evening/ was completed: Note to all-- We do not need to wait to tech DCPs to get credit offsets. These are almost always listed on the "Ingest Letter" which is either included as a printed copy with a physical drive or attached as a PDF to the email notifying us the content is ready to ingest. We can add the lights up cue to the playlist using the given offset and in the unlikely event that it turns out to be wrong when we tech it (I've occasionally had DCPs that only include offsets for the crawl and not for the true start of the credits, despite having no mid-credits scene), adjust cue sheets and let MOD know. Downloaded and ingested the rest of the listed preshow content--we're still waiting on EEAAO and Magic Mike preshow elements. All new first run features ingested--almost all first run playlists built and scheduled, half of the SE events playlists built. Still need playlists made for Husera, Love Jones, Love and Basketball and Brazil. Knock at the C

To do this evening/ was completed: Downloaded and ingested all of the available preshow content--the rest should be available tomorrow. Started local ingests of Tar and Aftersun. Put Animatrix back on a house reel. Held off on playlist building as none of the preshow content was on the TMS and we have five features that have yet to be ingested. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: NoBudge + Q&A went very smoothly. The 1.33 masking cue failed to trigger for the second short so I kept an eye on the program for its duration. All other masking/lens packages triggered properly though. Mics brought back to T2 booth afterward. To do this evening/ was completed: While updating and running through the NoBudge playlist for this evening, I noticed the image flickering pretty heavily. For posterity, I tested different slides/preshow content, checked the lights in the theatre and in the booth before changing out the bulb. I did notice one booth light struggling a bit, but then it stopped. Whilst this was a good time for the bulb to get changed-and it did help to stabilize the flickering-things could still be improved upon. The flickering is still there, just not as super noticeable. Alec mentioned that DMS did work on this in the past, but were pretty stumped, and wound up changing the ballast. I checked in on the lens/shutter mechanisms and noticed a slight strain when switching them, but I'm not sure what's really at play here. To my knowledge, ballasts shouldn't have to be replaced much, but one thing we should consider is that the projector is basically on the floor, and for many reasons, that ca

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: The lights in 1 did not present any further issue throughout the night; the emergency lights were switched "on" on the breaker and were left as such during my shift -- no flickering to report Preshow Clips/Playlist: Accidentally deleted Dr. Strangelove from the TMS/theater 2 not realizing it would screen again tomorrow morning -- the content has been restored and the playlist rebuilt/scheduled Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: NFL programming at Trees Lounge continued throughout the evening Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Printed return labels for The Neverending Story and Action Jackson  prints and scheduled a pickup for these canisters tomorrow morning Print/video Inspection: Finished inspecting the last (and final) reel of The Neverending Story this afternoon; the inspection report was filled out accordingly and all reels have been packa

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Round 1 in T1--same ceiling light flickering. Tried the method Alec outlined, disconnecting and reconnecting power cable to the light cue board, no luck, even after reconnecting and hitting lights down cue on quick controls and the board. Resorted to quickly turning the emergency ceiling breaker off and on during trailers (cleaning lights on for a few seconds). This seemed to resolved the problem. No issue during round two. MOD walkie'd about five minute difference for T1 round one credits. Preshow playlist was listed as 40 min duration when it was indeed 35. Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Neverending Story went very well. Re-inspected the print after the show--ready for return shipping. Set up the NFL stream in Trees. To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Not much of a major issue, but the new KDM for Broker in T7 had not been uploaded...kind of. I got it in there about ten minutes before trailers. We received a number of new keys for screen 7 because of the device exchange. I distinctly remember all of them being uploaded, and it's a little confusing at the moment since T7 displays all scheduled shows with an "expired kdm" warning, despite this not being true. The last KDM we received was January 25th, which was uploaded, but didn't immediately register and my assumption was that that's because we had another IMS exchanged, but I checked the ingest monitor in the IMS3000, and the keys had been directly uploaded there--which we can't do. For future reference; all keys must be uploaded to the TMS only. If we ingest them to an IMS directly, they will fail. I checked all scheduled shows in T7 to make sure the KDMs are good to go.  No light issues in T1 this e

To do this evening/ was completed:  PLEASE READ IN FULL: Want to clarify a few things about trailers for special events with intros. Pay close attention to the day of timeline on the event memo when you build the playlist, you will need to use this in conjunction with the trailer list to build it accurately. If, on the event memo day of timeline, "Trailers" is listed after "Ticketed Showtime" that means we play the trailers following Kat's trailer list before the intro. Sometimes there will be another trailer we should play after the intro, which was the case for NeverEnding Story today (Ex. 1 below). The additional trailer will be mentioned by name in the day of timeline on the event memo, after the intro is listed. Sometimes, there will just be one trailer which we should play before the intro to advertise an upcoming screening, as is the case with Jack & Jill next week (Ex. 2 below). This trailer will also be mentioned by name in the event memo. Basica

To do this evening/ was completed: Re-inspected Action Jackson --inspection sheet updated. Added the Anastasia trailer to the Neverending Story preshow playlist-- some of the other trailers included on Kat's list had to be removed to keep the playlist at 35 minutes total (BookNoDates and Family Friendly). Presentation Issues: Got a call from during round two in T1 notifying me that a ceiling light was flickering in the theater. Initially I turned off the rear ceiling lights breaker, which didn't do anything. Then I turned off the breaker for the emergency ceiling lights which caused the cleaning lights to come on during trailers. Turned that breaker back on, which brought the house lights down, but the ceiling light continued to flicker. Hit the lights down cue on quick controls and also on the rack, neither worked. Hit the same breaker again--cleaning lights came back on. Turned it back on, lights down, ceiling light continued to flicker for a little while until it just shut o

To do this evening/ was completed: RRR with Dolby Atmos sound files was ingested to theater 3 this afternoon. This CPL was tested in between rounds and there is no crackling or static coming from the speakers. I removed the 5.1 files from the TMS and updated the show playlists with Atmos CPLs which were also transferred to theater 1 from theater 3 Presentation Issues: Quite a few technical issues with the film and digital projectors in theater 1 this evening; the lamp in projector 1 was not striking which forced us to turn the breaker inside the machine on and off again (after having inspected the lamp house for other potential fixes) in order to get it back in working order. There was no picture at the start of the second round in this auditorium due to a "ballast communication" failure. Lillian would be better equipped to explain this in detail since she was able to troubleshoot the issue after a few hard reboots and reconfiguring some wires on the panel on the side of the

To do this evening/ was completed:  Tech'd Infinity Pool and Escape from NY-- volume and credit times are set. Adjusted set volume for Late Round 2/23 trailer. DCP'd Jack and Jill slide, ingested V4 version of Black Love trailer. Tech'd NoBudge shorts/playlist again--the masking motor does not respond to the 1.33 lens/mask playlist pack, maybe something to tech. Circumvented that by just adding individual masking cues to the beginning of 1.37/1.33 shorts. Strangelove keys active at midnight.    Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Made the DCP slides for Love Jones and Cruel Intentions - these have been ingested to the TMS. To do this evening/ was completed: Babylon was removed from theater 7 (along with the corresponding pre-show content) Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Had to raise the volume in theater 2 for the final round of M3GAN due to the noise from karaoke below bleeding through the floor and the host was asked to lower the volume on her end The static/crackling continued to be audible in theater 1 throughout RRR but no guests complained (update: turns out a few guests did complain throughout but they just wrote the issues they were hearing down on the index cards provided at their tables so...not entirely helpful to their own cause...servers did not realize this until after the guests had left and they found the cards with the written complaints) Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Karaoke at Trees Lounge went smoothly (setup was broken down afterwards and all A/V gear was returned to its respective storage spaces); B.A.P.S screening in theater 4 ran without any issues Order

To do this evening/ was completed: Built playlists for Whale, Skinamarink, Escape from NY and Broker. Scheduled the week in the TMS. Ingested Dr Strangelove and sent it to T2. Re-inspected AI: Artificial Intelligence-- ready for outgoing shipping. Just as a reminder: there is a significant dent on one of the shipping cans. Seems like the reels fit comfortably enough but just FYI.  Not sure I ever officially mentioned this in a blog, but the moving spotlights in Theater 1 can be turned on from the booth. There is a breaker labeled “MOVING SPOTS,” just switch that on for any event we need to use them for, and remember to switch back off when the event is done. To do this evening/ was completed: Scheduled a pickup for Bringing Out The Dead for tomorrow, 12-6 pm time frame. Stopped by Cinema Village to pick up a CRU Drive that contained a DCP of RRR before my shift--files are the same though so we elected to adjust the fader level in T3 through the Dolby app. Presentation Issues: Come reel four (projector 1) of AI I noticed the CP500 had switched over from Dolby Digital to SR. I tried to switch back to Digital but was prevented from doing so. I quickly went into the auditorium to gauge the sound and to my ear the mix and fullness of the audio was adequate--things sounded fine. When I changed over to reel five the 500 immediately switched back to Digital. Went back down into the theater again to gauge sound and things still sounded good and full. I wasn't completely sure if I should just run the rest of the print in SR so I decided not to, though reading about this type of issue online maybe it would've been the safer choice. I recall a

To do this evening/ was completed:  Presentation Issues: Last round in theater 7 ( Babylon  at 9:20) was a manual start; no issues so far A guest complained about "distortion" during some of the louder parts of RRR and I can confirm that the static/crackling noise is present in the center and rear surround channels during louder action sequences and musical numbers (of which there are many); I brought the volume down to 3.3 from its cued 4.0 and the noise is still audible -- theater 2 has had issues in the past with the speakers crackling during moments in which the audio peaks ( The Batman comes to mind, especially during the car chase sequences) but I'm not sure there is much to be done tonight as long as the film is playing Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built all first run show playlists for the week of 1/27-2/2 (all relevant Infinity Pool pre-show content has been downloaded and ingested to the TMS -- both versions of this show playlist are ready) Trailer Updates: Special E

To do this evening/ was completed: Started to properly get back to folks who've reached out with an interest in projecting here. We are, of course, not hiring at the moment, but we'll keep stock of the CVs for future reference.  Presentation Issues: This didn't really pose an issue since I caught it before anyone had shown up for preshow, but T2 had immediately queued up and started to play the playlist it had just finished playing--sorry, bit of a mouthful, but this is because the playback settings had--for whatever reason--been changed to 'play then rewind.' This has tripped me up in the past when putting logos on loop for special events and then simply forgetting to change it back. Make sure the playback settings are set to 'play then eject.' I checked every theatre's IMS to make sure the settings were correct.  If you're unfamiliar with this, here's what it looks like on the IMS:  ...and here's what it looks like when using the IMS3000 in

Unfortunately, the scheduler on the IMS3000 page gives you no warning if a scheduled show won't play (I tried deleting one of the KDMs and there was no change on the schedule), so go into Content > Composition Playlist, sort the list by Kind, scroll down to Feature and make sure they all have the green lock icon next to the name. I looked at the feature on the IMS and it was showing that keys were not active, even though new keys had been uploaded for both versions of the film. I reuploaded the keys in the IMS, which did not resolve the issue. Uploaded all new keys to the TMS, which did the trick. Rest of new content will be on the drive by Monday.  New RRR files came through and they're still super loud, but they're not mega distracting. Fortunately I noticed halfway through its run and was able to open the masking to better fit the image but the framing was zoomed in for everything excluding the trailer pack. Thankfully the feature played without incident despite the "missing KDM" warning on the TMS and further crisis was averted (note: I was unable to view the theater 7 projector panel in the VNC app and could not bring up any trigger cues through the quick controls tab in the Overview panel of the TMS; my assumption is that this is due to the communication/or lack thereof between the TMS and new IMS system) Cristina forwarded me a Google Slides version of the slideshow for  SaTS  and this was run manually during the opening presentation prior to the feature as the bluetooth remote was not advancing the slides from the stage The pre-show f

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey everyone! Hope you're all well. We've got an electrician coming in tomorrow morning to help us route spots into the T1 (and potentially T2) booth(s). We've also got Colin from DMS coming back to help us with the fire alarm and a temporary replacement IMS. I spent the majority of today on the phone with Dolby support whilst Alec communicated with DMS. T7 went down and we're still not exactly sure what caused this. I extracted a report from the IMS and went through the analysis with a Dolby technician. Ultimately, the reason we had to cancel shows today is because of the hardware clock reverting back to 2008, displaying an incorrect time. We're unable to change these preferences in the IMS itself due to security protocols (kdms and other protective measures for content), and it takes Dolby a little while to change this for us. Since the IMS2000 is not manufactured anymore, and our warranty ended in 2021, they can't actually p

The lights down cue was about 26 minutes into the playlist with roughly 9 minutes of lights down trailers, including forecasts etc. This wasn't technically wrong as this is how it was laid out on the trailer list, but made the timing kind of awkward. I moved the forecasts and PSAs to the lights up preshow so the lights went down 30 minutes in and there were 5 minutes of trailers before it started. I sent an email to Kat as well to ask about the breakdown on the trailer list. I also raised the volume for Karate Kid and added a 5.5 cue to the playlist for tomorrow.
