NPP Projection Report 9/30 Open

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built and scheduled Running on Empty , also ingested the keys for the feature. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Had a good show of A Little Princess , though SRD on P1 is not working (I think this went out on us not long ago but I'll check back though notes). I'll look into this during the week but for tomorrow select SR as the sound format and bypass the penthouse reader. Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Downloaded and ingested the remaining OCAP DCPs for the Trans + Realism NewFest shorts program, "Dismantle Me" and "Digital Curanderas." The drive with the Hayseed DCP on it (for a private tech on Tuesday) is ExFAT formatted, so not readable by the TMS and IMSes. I copied it to DCPIII and ingested it to T4. Outgoing/Shipping (content): Death Wish 3 got picked up. Print/video Inspection: Repaired the torn perf in reel 1 of Chi

To do this evening/ was completed: Downloaded and ingested all new preshow content, including the Don't Go In There PS content. All 10/6 first run playlists and trailer packs built, as well as playlists for Stand By Me, Psycho and A Thing Called Love ( might have to replace the slide with a feature-specific one). Checked in on T2 booth throughout the night--no new leakage to report, seems the duct tape is holding well. Cue sheets checked and cross-checked with sales page. Received the Hayseed drive from Chenelle. Tried to ingest via T4 and TMS, neither found the content, though the DCP files look right.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Yes Marquee updated?: Posters updated?: Cleaning lights on for the

To do this evening/ was completed: The rain is leaking into booth 2 again, though not as much as it has in the past. I detailed all of this in an email to Matthew with the projectionists copied. There is also the ventilation duct which was leaking which we really need to keep an eye on. I taped it up with heavy duty waterproof duct tape so it should be fine but please check on it regularly, it was dripping on the floor right next to the Christie. Again, see the email for all the details. Please keep your eye on this room as it's going to rain all night. I alerted Matthew and the construction team should be looking into it. I added 2 and a half minutes of black to the Rear Window playlist, after the feature and before the DCP show end pack, with a cue to bring the house lights to the "UP"/preshow setting since there are no credits on this feature. We should always do this with features that don't have credits or have a minute or less. Having the cleaning lights come

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Double checked Stop Making Sense  to see about its volume and 5.8 is a nice and moderate level (it could probably be played at 6 or 6.3 but for now this is loud enough) Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Death Wish 3 screening in theater 1 this evening went smoothly Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): One sheets for The Royal Hotel and Radical  were delivered and stored behind 3/7; additional  Wish one sheets and  The Nightmare Before Christmas  and   Hocus Pocus 30th anniversary posters were delivered and stored away this evening Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Death Wish 3 was re-inspected and packaged for return shipment Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Swept booth 1 and cleaned both projectors following the 35mm screening Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Double checked cues for tomorrow against the T

To do this evening/ was completed: Tech'd all new first runs and changed the feature volumes slightly: Dumb Money and The Creator at 5.5, Stop Making Sense at 5.8. I listened to the latter at various sections and I think 5.8 is where it should be. It sounds full but not too loud--given that it's a concert film I think it should play at slightly higher volume than regular features. I'll let Will know to keep an ear on it tonight. Tech'd the Wake and Bake shorts program and some T3 features (This Place, Almamula and Cora Bora) with Desmond and Dustin. All volumes and aspect ratios have been logged, as well as lights up for the features. It looks like we might have to slightly adjust our 1.33 masking in T1 as there was just a little bit of pillarboxing with all of the shorts in that aspect ratio. Dustin often wanted to know if the content was CCAP compatible, and I could only confirm yes for those with CCAP written in the DCP file name. If there's more info I can obser

To do this evening/ was completed: Jack, NewFest will be here for their first tech tomorrow. They are teching the following features: This Place , Cora Bora , and Almamuda . These are all in Theater 3 and are ready to go. They are also teching all of the Wake & Bake shorts program. This is in Theater 1 and all shorts are also ready on the server. Also please check all the new first run features for volume tomorrow. The new titles can get added to the marquee tonight. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Scheduled staff screenings for tomorrow and Friday and sent the email out. Trailer Updates: Added Anatomy of a Fall to next week's R trailer pack in place of Exorcist . Checked volume on all current trailers and updated the cues in all packs. To do this evening/ was completed: New Jack City went well tonight, apart from the DJ from the event afterwards accidentally absconding with our HDMI dongle.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: At long, long last I finally had a terrific show in Theater 1. Even with deadly combo of the grease changeover cue at the end of reel 3 and the blind spot, New Jack City went perfectly. Framing and changeovers were on point throughout. It feels good.  The music video showcase down in Trees also went smoothly. I set up as much as I could in advance, but then also talked to Eliel to help set up because the DJ was slated to arrive while I was running the print. I checked on it once the movie was over and it looked like everything was going good.  When I checked back in to break everything down, everything had been put in its place except for the HDMI Macbook Dongle, which was missing. I told Eliel and he concluded that the DJ must have taken it

To do this evening/ was completed: TMS scheduled, cue sheets built for the upcoming week, letters up for Rear Window.  Exorcist: Believer ingested to TMS, Running on Empty ingested to T3. NoBudge went very smoothly last night. Cleaned 35s in T1, ran loops afterward, framing and focus set. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: I tested the wireless mics through the PA speakers and it worked well, we will just have to lower the volumes of the mics on the mixer in the booth and remember to reset their levels when we reconnect the mixer to the CP750. This should work well for KGO next week! Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Got extra Dumb Money and Exorcist posters. Ordering/Receiving (content): I finished downloading Cora Bora . This wouldn't ingest because all the files hadn't been downloaded. I saw a note in a blog about the DCP having "too many files" but this was not the case, all the files in the Google

To do this evening/ was completed: Built all trailer packs, A1 playlists and most SE playlists for the coming week.  Downloaded and ingested the last two NewFest shorts I Can See The Sun and Only For The Night  (aside from Compton's '22-- waiting on file). Do Digital Curanderas ingest failed twice, it's the only file we have so we'll have to reach out to NewFest tomorrow. Chestnut feature transferred to DCPII and ingested to TMS. To do this evening/ was completed: Transferred the following content to the TMS: Generic SciFi preshow 5min, 15min, 25min.  PS_SE_KGO_FF, River Phoenix preshow 5 min & 15min, Don't Go In There trailer, Book PSA for Dall,  PS_SE_KGO_FF, forecasts for 9/29.  I have Cora Bora (NewFest feature) downloading again to the T1 desktop. That came in a rather confusing series of folders in Google Drive. I've singled out the files I think are correct, though it's a little hard to tell and there might be another file (for subs) that needs to go in the folder.  Another NewFest feature, Chestnut , is extracting on the 4/6 desktop. This has been taking awhile, making the comp here stagger loads. It's almost finished, so once this is done please move it to the DCPII drive for ingest.  Presentation Issues: No presentation issues. To do this evening/ was completed: Made more progress downloading/ingesting NewFest content: Ingested the Anhell69 DCP to Theater 3. Downloaded the rest of the shorts we have links for and ingested those to Theater 1 (this leaves two shorts which we're waiting on). There is also one more feature with a link we still need to download. It's This Place . The notes on the spreadsheet says we need to make an account to download it and we'll only have one shot so best to do this when little is going on in the building and we can monitor it. Let's start this first thing during the Tuesday admin, when Jack and I will be here at 10am. I'm also copying all the NewFest DCPs to the Preshow & Trailers hard drive since it has so much space and it will be helpful to keep all these files in one place. I believe I got everything, but if you see something that wasn't copied over please copy it and remove it from any other drive/computer. One note about one of the shorts, &qu

We started a wee bit late at the beginning since not everyone had arrived yet, but then once we did, Philip had some issues with sound. We paused the opening for about 2-3 minutes since he accidentally added the wrong file in for the show. They tech'd sound for about 30 minutes before preshow and everything was set, he just added the wrong file into the software when he went to reset in the software before the show. Before the show, John requested I set up the camera to record the Q&A, so we've got that file ready.  Just as a heads up - The 1min NPP Slide is for preshow and not an actual slide for intros. I was in the midst of ending the Industrial Musicals event so I couldn't get down there immediately. I tried to walk Jared through it, but ultimately went down there myself. When I first went ot the manual controls, they didn't work and noticed that the power strip had been turned off.  Once I turned that back on, I was able to adjust the masking.  Automation in Theater 7 didn't start so I had to do manual starts for the last two rounds Preshow Clips/Playlist: I was looking at the automation for tomorrow and noticed that not only has Death Becomes Her hasn't been scheduled, the playlist hasn't been built. Built the 9/25 NoBudge playlist as well, with all masking/lens/volume cues included. Rear Window ingested to T2.  Wired mic set up in T1. Reviewed reseating the IMB with Alec--very easy. Philip from 32 Sounds came by to tech the feature and equipment. The movie will run off a file connected to our HDMI/DVI input in T1. Got a complaint last night that the volume for Haunting in Venice was too low. Bumped it to 6.3 and it sounded right--updated all playlists. Brought The Dark Knight down to the side entrance and Matthew picked it up a short while later. Inspected reels eight and nine of Benjamin Button-- just #10 left. To do this evening/ was completed: Prince of Darkness went well enough if the audience applause at the end of it is a decent indication. But for me it was a bit frustrating--I started the film on P1 and there was a prominent side-to-side jitter on screen, so I increased the gate tension which then required me to refocus the image, but the jitter remained so I tightened the gate some more which seemed to resolve the bounce but the right side of the screen became very blurry with the left and center portions very much in focus. It was toward the end of the first reel so I didn't adjust further until after the changeover. Then on P2 the image was somewhat out of focus, so I had to adjust for that, and then basically ride focus for both reels on that projector. Reels three and five on P1 definitely featured some bounce but it seemed a little less prominent than before. Print has been rewound ready for re-inspection tomorrow. Also it seems Prince was never tech'd as I couldn't f

To do this evening/ was completed: Hi team. Another friendly reminder to keep downloading NewFest shorts/features! I know there's still quite a few we haven't received yet, but keep an eye out for new links in the template and don't forget to say "download complete" in the last tab. We should be getting the film schedule today. Please check for any preshow content we don't have downloaded yet or that we're waiting on. TMS will need to be scheduled, too.  Note: today we received 6 bins of headphones for the 32 Sounds event on Thursday. Will and I brought these up. They're in 4/6 by the T6 projectors.  Today I downloaded and ingested the following NewFest shorts:  Crary Lake Boats and Floats AC Unit How To Carry Water I Identify As Me Gold and Mud Presentation Issues: Noticed the picture in T1 flickering again during the first round of Bottoms . We'll have enough time to check out the slides/washes/spots with Alex tomorrow and liase with his crew to make sure they feel comfortable in the theatre.  Friendly reminder - please be sure to jot down in the blog where you're transcoding files to. This saves time. One more note: when it comes

To do this evening/ was completed: Would have been a great day apart from the mishap during Secret Ceremony tonight. But otherwise it was a good night.  Presentation Issues: During the second to last reel of Secret Ceremony , Reel 5 snapped just as the countdown went through the projector. Somehow, I didn't hear it snap, but then noticed when the film was gathering on the ground. When I noticed I stopped the screening and walkied MOD what was happening. Alec was also in the audience and came up to help get it back up and running quickly. We were able to fix it and got it up and running after about 5 minutes or so.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Secret Ceremony went really well otherwise. It was shaping to be the best show I had run here. Framing was on point, threading easy, and cues a breeze. But then the incident with the changeover to reel 5 threw off that momentum. Alec thankfully helped me get it back up and running quickly, but I'm b

To do this evening/ was completed: Started a new DCP for Pavement: Range Life last night in 4/6, it should finish transcoding tonight. Please ingest to Theater 1 once it finishes, we're teching this tomorrow for an event on Thursday at noon. Swapped out the Marie Antoinette posters, put the old stuff back in. The MA posters are rolled up inside tubes residing in 3/7. Reset all the dimmer panels after being notified the fire alarm went off last night, checked all theaters to make sure everything was back to normal. Set up a mic and mixer in T4 for the intro tonight--the gear was still down in T5 with all the power on when I found it. Ran loops for Secret Ceremony-- framing and focus set.  T6 round three Opp wasn't scheduled as OCAP--fixed that. Tech'd all NoBudge shorts with Desmond--volumes and aspect ratios logged--they all look and sound great. Removed the CallForSubs trailer as we wait to receive and ingest V3. Started building next week's cue sheets, without listing

To do this evening/ was completed: Downloaded and ingested the Call For Subs trailer, added to listed trailer packs. Built most of the remaining SE playlists and scheduled the upcoming week in the TMS. Put up Marie Antoinette posters with Chenelle--we decided to add pieces of tape to the backs of the posters and tape them against the frame to avoid damaging them, host was fine with it. Had to bump the volume to 7.5, but the private event went smoothly. Printed out a shipping label for Bullet to the Head and put the print by the side entrance door. The Pavement preshow DCP finished transcoding in 4/6 so I started testing audio of the feature in 4/6 DCPoMatic. Took a long time to transfer the content onto the DCPII drive. Put Prince of Darkness on house reels. We received posters for Passages. I tried to put one up outside but there were bikes in the way preventing me from erecting the ladder. Will put it up tomorrow. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special

To do this evening/ was completed: Okay! hello. Lots going on today. As y'all know, we have two private events on 9/14: Pavement and A Sigh of Origin .  Today we had a tech scheduled with the filmmakers/hosts of A Sigh of Origin and when I went to throw their film up on screen just to set everything up beforehand, I unfortuntely did not get sound nor image. We had a conversation and I worked with Taylor (DP/tech person) and we tried ingesting another DCP on his drive that was apparently the same but looked like a more proper file. It didn't work (Taylor informed me that he stacked the jpeg files for the intro and q&a in the same DCP as the film, which is what I think contributed to the problem among a few other things I can explain later), but to make a long story short, I remade their DCP in house and managed to ingest and get eyes on it three minutes before Barbie opened up in T2 today. It looks and sounds gorgeous. I had Taylor give me the slides for the intro and Q&a

To do this evening/ was completed: Converted the last NoBudge short, Friyay, to DCP and ingested it along with the four other shorts that had yet to be ingested to TMS. After ingesting everything, I transferred all content to T2. Took down Blue Beetle letters. Organized, swept and mopped T2 booth. There was a good amount of detritus hanging around so it feels a bit more pleasant now. Took and uploaded 35mm stills of Black Hat.  T7 Christie lost image at the very end of round three. Restarted the IMS and tech'd content quickly between rounds--picture and sound were fine, issue was resolved for the night. Kung Fu Panda and SoF preshow content removed from servers. Marie Antoinette posters received--residing in 3/7. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleanin

To do this evening/ was completed: Forgot to mention this in my blog yesterday but the T7 lamp has reached the warranty hour threshold. It will be fine for a few more days. We have replacements, I can change it when I'm back on Tuesday. Put The Dark Knight on house reels. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Sundays on Fire went very nicely! Bullet in the Head looked really good overall. Just a note: the spotlight board and wireless mic mixer were not reconnected in the booth after Spoons on Thursday. Please put everything back to normal when you breakdown. Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Reinspected the first two reels of Bullet in the Head . They're back on shipping reels. The rest is tails out under the bench. Lillian, can you continue this tomorrow? Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/

To do this evening/ was completed: Pretty much all quiet on the western front this evening. I wound up hearing that the level for Bottoms was too low (which it was), so as with the old playlists, I brought the volume up to around 6.0. Adjusted both CCAP and OCAP for 9/8 and 9/15.  Presentation Issues: Round 4 of the Equalizer  in T6 was scheduled with a regular playlist as opposed to the T6 specific one, but I caught and changed it before the show.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Made the playlist for Marie Antoinette . Got the credits info. We'll have to get volume Monday morning, but I updated the cue sheets.  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Worked on the NoBudge shorts tonight. Finished transcoding Sweet Green to the DCPII drive. Transcoded  Up and Coming  and  Flail, the latter of which is still finishing up transcoding to the DCPIII drive. Was trying to figure out which others had been made the other night and found Singles Retreat on the desktop in T1. Copied it over t
