To do this evening/ was completed: Updated all first run playlists with the TIP_Jewel element. Built a playlist for All Dogs Go To Heaven, finished the preshow playlist for Real Women Have Curves. Removed old trailer packs and special events playlists from the TMS/servers. Ingested the updated HowToOrder_Horror element. Built preshow playlists for all upcoming 35mm shows 11/4-11/10--some volume and masking cues will need to be added-- Dangerously Close will need a unique holding slide. Also ingested the Amateur Hour preshow content. Presentation Issues: We ended up moving the round one Banshees show in T1 to T3--there were only 6-8 tickets sold at the time we moved it. We did this because the tech for Morricone Youth took much longer than anticipated due to an unfamiliarity with some of aspects of setting up the Berenger mixer. Things worked out eventually and the band feels good with the setup/mix. MOD had noted an issue with the playlist for Black Adam-- specifically that the lights

To do this evening/ was completed: Quickly teched all of the OCAP features before each auditorium opened--all good. Presentation Issues: About eight minutes before Desmond's intro for Beetlejuice, MOD walkied me to let me know the preshow in T5 was playing with no image. I checked VNC and saw an alert stating "unexpected light off". I turned the lamp back on, only for it to turn itself off again, so I shut down the projector and then struck the lamp once more. It was ok for a few minutes, but then it shut off again and it seemed like a lamp change was necessary. So the first round in T5 was canceled. Desmond's intro in T1 went smoothly, but after he concluded the audience still had to wait about five minutes for the feature to begin. After I finished the screening in T1, I met Lillian in the T5 booth and helped her as she installed a new lamp in the Christie. We were able to get the second round in T5 started, just in the knick of time. Thank you very much, Lillian, f

To do this evening/ was completed: Removed Prey, Clockwork Orange and other feature content from the TMS. Also removed all NewFest shorts content, as well as all 10/21 first run playlists. Ingested the OCAP files for the features we'll be presenting with open captions this week: Aftersun, Black Adam, Banshees, Till and Woman King. Cue sheets and TMS have been properly updated. **TMS storage is at 100% capactiy. We could remove Bros, Barbarian and Don't Worry Darling feature content from TMS if necessary--I know we're holding on to them for the moment. I've yet to remove them, as I wanted to run this by everyone before getting rid of that content. **Special events preshows ( Abbott and Costello, Halloween, Beetlejuice) are 35 minutes long. On the cue sheets we have them listed as 40 minutes long. This has been updated. It seems SE playlists vary in length--if someone could remind me why that is I'd appreciate it. To do this evening/ was completed: Bit of a recap here! I had a super late night on Wednesday, trying to troubleshoot tech for a last minute staff meeting the next day, and prep for our general duties plus Shouting at the Screen. I had set up the wired mics in T2 the night before, but we wound up having to move them and set up again. For the staff meeting that was supposed to take place in T3, yesterday morning, I wound up having Jack switch it into T1 and talked him through the set up over the phone. I'll put this info in the Projectionist manual since it's similar to what we'd do for Spoons, but for live Zoom/Google Meet events you have to make sure that the settings (input/output) in either Zoom or Google Meet are comparable to your laptop settings. The input is always the laptop speakers and the output will be the theater speakers. In T2, should we ever do one in there, you would hook up the laptop directly to the Christie. In T1, we already have the Aja setup, so you w

Projection Admin & Close 10/26 ~ A Good Show! Plus Notes. BIG day today..big day ahead.

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey all! We had a super fun screening of The Faculty tonight. It was a packed house!! I'm very pleased with how it went, though I did notice we'll have to deep clean the projectors. There's oil and dirt caked into area that folks aren't always told to clean, and there's a few smells that make it clear we've gotta sweep 'em. We will go over these things once the dust really and truly starts to settle a bit. That being said, it was truly a great evening and McKegg was very helpful with keeping a keen eye on the show with me, helping to rewind and inspect reels whilst I projected. Some information that might be useful that I told McKegg: Turn the rectifiers (breakers) on about 30 minutes prior to their start time, and strike the lamps about ten minutes before the start time. Heating everything up too quickly can be disastrous and puts stress on the machines/lamps when attempting to connect/ reach a certain level of brightness.

Perfectly solid setup and breakdown.  A Clockwork Orange also went smoothly.  Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): I ingested the Bones and All Trailer into all Theaters.  Ordering/Receiving (content): I ingested the new Prey DCP into Theater 1 and should be ready for tomorrow's screening. Outgoing/Shipping (content):  Print/video Inspection: I inspected The Faculty print. It's in terrific shape with few splices. To do this evening/ was completed: Teched the Prey DCP we made. It's a little too letterboxed, in my opinion, so I've made a new DCP, 1.85 this time, which will need to be locally ingested tonight and teched tomorrow morning. Downloaded and ingested  Scream Teens, Forecast A and Mubi trailer preshow content, as well as the Aftersun feature. Built 10/28 first run playlists, aside from Banshees . Banshees preshow content is still uploading to Drive so please download and ingest when it's ready. The 10/28 PG-13 trailer pack is the same as the 10/21 so I did not make a new pack. 10/21 can be renamed come Thursday. Cleared NewFest content from DCPII drive. Uploaded keys for Decision to Leave and Night of the Living Dead. Downloaded and ingested  Batman Forever  trailer, as well the ReconsiderThis_5min_Faculty. To do this evening/ was completed: Downloaded Clockwork Orange  keys and teched the   playlist. The DCP is labeled as 1.66 but there's a slight pillarboxing when the film is projected with that lens file, so I switched to 1.85 with 1.66 masking and it fits perfectly. Also bumped the volume up to 7.5. It just wasn't loud enough at our usual 5-5.5 range. All good to go for tomorrow night.  Updated this week's cue sheets Mon-Thurs as we've moved Till to T3 and Decision to Leave to T2. TMS schedule is good to go but I'd recommend keeping these changes in mind if possible. Locally ingested Night of the Living Dead to T1. Projection Admin (Lillian) Done with NewFest! Recap...

To do/ was completed: Wow...what a time we've had! A lot has happened and I'm so proud of us for pulling through. NewFest ended today. Well done, everyone. I'm really happy about how today went, and I'm excited to get back into the swing of our usual happenings. I was in early to finish setups for Trees Lounge, T3, T1, and T2. All NewFest shows went really well. I have a couple of updates below! Thank you, Jack, for being a huge help today.  Please, everyone, continue to check the blog to see what needs to be done so we can stay ahead of things!  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: As per Matthew's email, we've swapped out Till with Decision to Leave in T2 for this upcoming Monday. Thankfully, an MOD pointed this out during the preshow and it was quickly corrected.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: The Birdcage Film Feast went great! Transition from the intro into the main event was smooth and everything's been broken down and put in its place.  The NewFest screening of Wendall and Wild went equally as good. Intro was solid, Gabe from D Media was in Theater 1 booth the whole time and thankfully nothing went wrong throughout. The feature played beautifully. The Q+A also went well. All mics, mixers, stands, chairs, etc are all back.  And, on top of all that, we also had a quick trivia night! That also went perfectly and everything, once again, is shut down and put in their respective places.  Ordering/

To do this evening/ was completed: Went through an extensive tech this morning with Desmond, Gabe from D Media, and some NewFest reps/coordinators. We teched the Wendell and Wild playlist, which is all good to go. However, the feature itself was providing a little bit of difficulty, as some people felt they couldn't really hear any of the mix coming from the side speakers. I was seeing sound from the side surrounds on the circular display on the CP750, which we initially mistook to be the rears. Initially I was unable to access the Dolby app via the T6 PC, so Gabe connected to our server with an ethernet cable and we switched the Decode Mode from 7.1 Surround to 5.1 Discrete, which resolved the issue--the mix sounds good now, (however Alec will be able to shed some more light on the difference between the two settings when used in our auditoriums. In short the 5.1 discrete will give you sound from all seven speakers when you're running a 5.1 mix. The 7.1 Surround will play a 5.

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: There were many issues with this evening's scheduled New Class shorts program for NewFest but of all that caused us trouble it was Netflix and its NewFest constituents wanting to complete a full tech run before the show was meant to start. They arrived shortly after 5:30PM to begin this, but not even this two hour block was enough time to properly go through each short (there was a lot of pausing, rewinding, forwarding, and adjusting volume levels for each film, all of which had already been done in advance -- we made them aware of this -- and added to the show playlist that was built specifically for this event) before the doors were meant to open. Once Lillian and I ran into the issue with a short about halfway through the show playlist (it kept looping back to the start and would not allow us to advance the automation to the next film) we were delayed further and this was exacerbated by the NewFest people insisting that we

Lillian can give more details than I can but by the time I arrived she was speaking to the festival people about the possibility of doing the playlist manually, but also being worried about continuing to have issues with one particular short. When she tried playing this short in the playlist, it wouldn’t play and the playlist skipped back to the previous short. It seemed that after hard rebooting the projector/server (I suggested this over the phone), the playlist worked fine, as when I got to the computer tried running the playlist, there were no issues. By the time we figured out the playlist would work, the festival director had decided to cancel all of the content and just do the panel, despite us saying the playlist would work. There will definitely be more details on this.  Earlier in the day, the Theater 4 Christie was showing up “of

The New Class also needed some more adjustments. Following the first short in the program, which is scope, there was the 1.85 Lens/Masking change pack and then a cue to switch the masking to 1.78 for the following short. Instead of this I just added a bit of black between the shorts with cues to switch the projector lens to 1.85 and the masking to 1.78. I also removed the 2:1 masking cue from the third short (Mercury Afrograde), since masking this would require a lens change. I added the lens/masking change pack for this one, the 1.85 pack for the following short and slides/clips. I also adjusted the Q&A section of the playlist. The Spotify playlist was great and the transition from Non Synch to D1 was fine. We started a little late since a gentleman who needed wheelchair access showed up when we already had folks in the removable seats. He preferred to sit in one of ours instead. So I know we have our ADA seats listed on our website that patrons can chose when buying tickets, and I understand that patrons can purchase those tickets even if they don't require ADA. Since it is never, ever the fault of a patron with a disability for having us stall a show, might it be more sensible for us to have a feature on the website that, when you go to confirm a purchase (after choosing an ADA seat), it will ask you to confirm whether or not you specifically require ADA access? To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Piggy  screening in theater 2 went well (Caryn Coleman and a guest filmmaker made brief introductions before the short/feature content started); I had to discreetly adjust the masking at the start of the short to better fit the 1.33:1 image but aside from that the show ran without any issues Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: I ran the rest of reel 2 of  Gates of Hell through the projector in theater 1 and rewound the reel back to its head, placed it back on the shelf with the rest of the film, and cleaned the projector before powering down the machine   Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Marquee updated?: Posters updated?: Posters outside the auditorium doors were changed to reflect tomorrow's cue sheet

Projection Admin 10/12 ~ Important information...and where to find things!

To do this evening/ was completed:  Our early morning Real Estate rental event went just fine (in T1). Downloaded and made a DCP of the updated NewFest loop that Kim sent over this morning. I sent out an email about this, but I'll reference it here again: the new file is UpdatedNewFest_XSN. I built the Wendell & Wild playlist. Checked Triangle of Sadness and it looks and sounds great.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: QC'd with Desmond and Rachel for preshow materials in T1&3. Adjusted the playlists we built with the proper volumes attached. I made a separate tab for trailer/ad volumes on the DCP x tracking sheet for NewFest, and it's under Trailers/Ads. The volume for T1's content is also applicable for T2, should any feature/shorts programme need a trailer from the T1 volume list (they're similarly sized theatres).   In an ideal world, the mixes for most of these would be comparable and we'd only need a set volume for preshow content, but

To do this evening/ was completed: Downloaded preshow for Triangle of Sadness and built the playlist. I know there's a lot going on with NewFest and everything, but this opens tomorrow. It should have been built before today. Feature cs n be QC’d tomorrow as well. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: All first run and Wallace & Gromit playlists are ready to be scheduled. Cue sheets can be started tomorrow, too. Converted and ingested all NewFest slides and trailers. Downloaded Dwayne Johnson preshow clip for Black Adam and Decision to Leave trailer for next week’s trailer packs. Built playlists for the first five NewFest screenings: Brooklyn Brunch, Experiments on Existence, All the World’s a Stage, Three Tidy Tigers , and Vulveeta . These should be good to use for the screenings. I let Joe know we need the drive Brooklyn Horror Festival sent them for the opening night screening at Prospect. It has their preshow, ads, and transitionals. Once it is brought to NPP, ple

To do this evening/ was completed: Teched Nocebo in T2. Picture and sound are good to go but the masking is a little ambiguous. The picture looks best in the 1.66 macro, it's pillarboxed and keystoned a bit in 1.78 and 1.85. However, the 1.66 masking results in significant bleed on the side curtains, so we'll have to tech further. Credits have been noted. Was unable to tech Triangle of Sadness in T3 as the keys don't become active until tomorrow. They will then expire Thursday at midnight so we'll need to ingest a new set of KDMs. Removed Cabin in the Woods content from TMS/T1. Set up mic and mixer in T4 for Candyman tonight. Downloaded and ingested Queer New Class slides and teaser videos that were passed along by Desmond today. Ingested to T1. For the slides, I added a two second fade in and fade out when making the DCPs but in the preview window the fade in did not seem to last a full two seconds. In my opinion this is no issue, because there still is a fade in. Also

To do this evening/ was completed: Jack asked that I try to troubleshoot an ingest issue he was having with a NewFest short titled My Trip to Spain ; I attempted to re-ingest it to the TMS (Jack had tried to ingest it locally to theater 3 which was unsuccessful) but unfortunately this failed so I re-downloaded all the individual DCP file elements from the shared Google drive into a new folder on the DCPII hard drive and attempted another ingest (update: this re-ingest attempt also failed - I communicated with Lillian about it and she said she would take a look at it no later than Wednesday) Presentation Issues: Penultimate round in theater 2 ( Amsterdam @ 7:15PM) did not begin as scheduled and was delayed by about 5 minutes after a manual start Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built and scheduled a Candyman pre-show playlist for tomorrow's screening in theater 4 with the custom "ABC" content; the print did not have a volume listed and will need a volume cue added to its pre-show p

To do this evening/ was completed: Teched Cabin in the Woods playlist--added start credit time to the cue sheet and added lights up cue to the playlist--all good to go. Downloaded and ingested all shorts in the NewFest Episodic Showcase program to T3 aside from My Trip to Spain, that ingest failed--looking into making a new DCP for it. Four of the five shorts in their respective Google Drive folders were labeled with their titles only. Subsequently they've been ingested with just their titles. I figure we can just make note of their aspect ratios during tech for reference during the festival but if it's preferred that the content features the full technical listing (ex: SHR_1_178 etc etc) then maybe a second ingest will be necessary. Tracking sheet updated. Re-inspected Time and Tide and scheduled a pickup with Sony tomorrow. Noticed there were four splices in reel six, instead of the two listed on the inspection sheet. Just making note of it here. Measured the width and height
