NPP Projection Report Sat. 12/23

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Regarding lamps not turning off automatically last night, this was because Babylon , The Whale , and The Menu playlists were running 2-3 minutes longer than what was on the TMS schedule, probably because something like a trailer was added to the playlists after they were already scheduled. This not only resulted in the Shutdown in Theater 2 not loading, but it didn't load in 3 or 5 either, and lamps were on in both when I got in this morning. If you add any content to a playlist after it's already been scheduled, the TMS will not  automatically reflect this extra time in the scheduling tab, you have to click on the scheduled show, check "Change show playlist," then click "Save" for the end time to update. This is obviously really important for scheduling the shutdown (lamps absolutely have to be shut off each night), but also the cues. Added the extra minutes to the cue sheets for the rest of the week

To do this evening/ was completed: Cue sheets checked, playlists for The Warriors and Lyle, Lyle built. Presentation Issues: More so server/projector issue. The shutdown cue failed to strike the lamp off in T2 after the last round. The shutdown had been scheduled with enough time between it and the end of the playlist before it. I turned the lamp off once I realized.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Yes Marquee updated?: Posters updated?: Cleaning lights on for the night?: Yes Projection cart by entrance?: Additional Notes:

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey all, so I changed the microswitches in (T1) Kelmar bench. Took a hot minute to really adjust the main screw. Pictures below. Fourth photo is of the new switches, which have small plug fixtures that connect to the variac. That old electrical tape was on its last legs. I'll get us some to have around the booth since, from what I could see, there is none. Anyway, please continue checking the TMS for any manual starts, tight turnarounds or accessibility needs. Check in with the Event Calendar to see what happenings might have your name attached to it.      Presentation Issues: No presentation issues!  Preshow Clips/Playlist: SE for Lyle Lyle can get built (see below in Special Events) and can be scheduled on the TMS accordingly.  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Took a chair out of T5, put it back safe n sound. Confirmed to Chenelle that we received the DVD for the rental on 1/2. They've requested 15 min of preshow (kid friendly, pl

Hey, everyone! First day back. I have some goodies I forgot to bring in today, so keep an eye out for them tomorrow. Thanks, y'all, for holding down the fort. Seems like things have been quiet around here...I've been reading the blogs and as far as T2 goes, I'll be changing the bulb tomorrow. The booth temperatures are good for now. Just to remind folks--the schedule for the month of January has been posted, so please plan accordingly for time off requests, shift swaps, etc.  To do this evening/ was completed: I tried to organize myself a little bit more over the holiday break and found some old notes on resizing Scope letterboxed files within 1.78 in DCP-o-matic. I'll be adding this to the manual.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist:  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Chair got taken out for accessibility. Put it back safe n sound.  Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): I checked out the new Shure mixer for T3 and

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Filtered air intake alarm in theater 2 (10:11:03 AM) + light half life exceeded alarm in this same auditorium -- these had no effect but is something we can be mindful of as it continues to get colder out/in booth 2; Jess alerted me that she had to turn off the A/C units in booths 4/6 to allow some heat to be redirected to the server station in theater 2 (these spaces are on the same cooling/heating system) but that she will make a note to turn them back on so our booths don't overheat -- it is warmer than usual in the 4/6 booth and all projectors are operating normally (update: the A/Cs were turned back on around 4:45PM) I thought Babylon sounded too low in theater 2 this afternoon (I figured it was due to the larger than usual crowd soaking up the volume) but once I brought it up to 5.0 from 4.5 the speakers began crackling as the audio peaked so I turned it back down to 4.5 -- I think Alec or Lillian had mentioned this was

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Downloaded and ingested Great Gowns and Goodman preshows. Exported more generic preshows to the hard drive and deleted them from the TMS. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: I tried removing the XLR from Mic 2 in Trees, but had no luck. The latch for the end of the cable is broken, so the cable won’t come unlatched. Will speak to Griffith since the mic 2 XLR on the panel probably needs to be replaced. Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Made a reel of flat mono trailers for screening. They all haven’t been projected yet according to the doc, though some were already on house reels. The reel is in the cabinet in 4/6. with a list of the trailers on it. To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist:  Avatar: The Way of Water  at 8:30PM in theater 1 was meant to be an OCAP screening but the regular show playlist was scheduled instead; thankfully I noticed this while the first round was still on screen and changed it accordingly (additionally, all show playlists scheduled for this film today were dated "1216" which have the  Puss in Boots  trailer attached -- I changed the playlists for the last rounds to the "1222" versions with updated trailer packs so as to not show that trailer which is outdated) Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Jeremy left a  Dungeons & Dragons standee by the elevator on level M earlier; I tossed this in the recycling bin outside as it is too large to keep handy behind 3/7 and we have never used these as promotional material in our lobby space(s) before Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (co

Projection Admin 12/22 Happy Holidays!

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey, wonderful colleagues! Happy Holidays. I'm leaving for Boston this evening to spend some time with my sister. I'll try to bring back some Boston-themed treats, but after one Google search, it looks like I'd be carrying a load of baked beans back and I won't lie; I'm not sure that's something I wanna do as a patron of the Peter Pan bus. I'll do my best, though. Anyway, we have all of our content we need for this upcoming week!  As noted in my previous post, we will be receiving a DVD of Lyle Lyle Crocodile in the coming days for the rental on 1/2 in T7. Chenelle will give us a shout when it's on its way.  Please refer to the Maintenance/Cleaning section for the DCP/DCP-o-matic guide in the Projectionist Manual. Please let me know if you would like for me to expand it more. I've gone over the fundamentals for video, and have added in a section for slide making since it was requested--particularly notes on how to f

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: The regular Puss in Boots show playlist did not have a volume cue so the film began at 3.8 following the pre-show and trailers; a few guests asked the MODs that it be raised up and I brought the volume up accordingly (I have since added a 5.3 level cue to this show playlist which the OCAP version also has) Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built show playlists for staff screenings of  Babylon and I Wanna Dance With Somebody but have yet to schedule any; deleted pre-show content for White Noise and all  Violent Night CPLs (CCAP and OCAP) from the TMS and servers containing them  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: I set up karaoke earlier this evening and, despite some initial confusion from Eliel about RCA wires being used to connect to the laptop for its audio to run through the mixer, the event went smoothly overall (this was my first time setting up this event so I stuck very closely to the projectionists's manual Lillian upd

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey everyone! The holiday season is pretty much in full force now. I'm excited for us to head into the New Year with fresh eyes, more knowledge, and a better work flow after all the work we've done this season. We got the application from Cristina for the Harvard Film Archive! There's a lot of info below. Please read carefully. I have scheduled a Staff Screening of The Whale in T3 tomorrow with 15min of preshow and a 10:30 start time. You should have plenty of time to check volume. JUST adding to this by saying that the staff screenings of The Whale will be tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: For tomorrow! ~ I was unable to check volume for Puss in Boots and The Whale today since the KDMs will not be active until 1am tomorrow. Admin, please check volume for both of these.  Downloaded the Cats Preshows (5min, 15min, 25min). These have now been ingested to the TMS and be added to the Puss

To do this evening/ was completed: Quite a lowkey evening as far as patrons go, but we did have a representative from--I believe--IMoxie, who wanted to have me sign off on some posters. Checked in on the APCs that need replacing. Checked in on bulbs and overall booth life.  Presentation Issues: No presentation issues this evening.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Attempted to continue doing what Alec spent time doing today, which was exporting content, but it paused and did not start back up again. I attempted to power cycle, but no budge. I did successfully export some preshow we don't need, though. It takes a hot minute for it to transfer.  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Pulled the accessibility seats back in T2. The guests that requested this showed up fifteen minutes into the feature and we had to ask some other patrons if they could kindly move down a few spots. The drill didn't cause too much of a disturbance since the film was quite action-packed. Seats were safely

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Working on exporting a bunch of generic preshows to our 4TB desktop hard drive, which I believe we used to use when we would get preshows from a remote server instead of Google Drive. Just going genre-specific ones and a few SE preshows I know we won't need for a while. We can just check this drive in the future if there's an older preshow we need for something and keep new generic preshows on here for future use. We can also use this drive for ingesting weekly preshows if we want to, just keep it clear of first run preshows when we're done with them so it doesn't get too full. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Everything in Trees went great, no issues with the World Cup or the DJ set. We're playing the World Cup matches with sound on in Trees this weekend. So we'll need to use the laptop (and the cable connection isn't currently working, either). I left the 2XLR to 1/

Friday 12/16/2022 CLOSE -Chris-

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: I think you guys may have weak speaker in T2, hard overdrive buzz heard during a typically bombastic scene in A vatar: WoW!  in which the villain-type space cats are firing grenades at the hero-type space cats. This scene really shows off the issue as they're firing screen-left-to-right so when the grenade hits the 7.1 surround plays it mostly off the rear right corner of the room and the problem child is one of the units up there. Couldn't quite discern which it was from behind the last row. The scene in question is roughly contained within the 1hr 22min-26min marks in the feature should anyone want to give it a listen. Sorry for the wasted read if you're already aware of this. Preshow Clips/Playlist: Modified the PG_122122 trailer pack to include a 4.5 vol cue for the Spiderverse  trailer I saw the current SPLs were using. Don't know if you guys have tech'd the Barbie  teaser yet but I have it currently set t

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey everyone! Happy Friday. You should have received an email from Alec earlier this evening about the new AOR (Areas of Responsibility) document as a guide for your shift duties. This will be live tomorrow, and once you receive it, I want to echo Alec by asking that you take the time to look over it and familiarise yourself with the flow of tasks. Alec has printed this out so it's available in the booth above the analogue cleaning supplies and maintenance station.  The leaks in T2 and T6 seem to have been resolved. I had a look into the T1/T2 booths as well as T6 to check for any seepage.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Kat sent over new content today, some of which will be added to the drive this Monday, a little later since she's under the weather.  I've downloaded and ingested the following preshow content:  TLR_SE_GreatGowns TLR_SE_AFewGoodman  TLR_NPP_FORECAST_1221_A  TLR_NPP_FORECAST_1221_B To download and ingest on Mo

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey guys! For tomorrow's meeting, make sure to bring any notes, questions, comments or concerns you've got for us.  Presentation Issues: Spoke to Jerry at DMS who contacted Greg and Chris to see if they could remotely tap into our server today to check in on our storage issues. Alec and I peaked around to scope out the strange cue issues that T2 and (more specifically) T6 tend to have, i.e. not automating shows. The GP-1 cue is described as a 'pause' in the Macro Editor on the rack laptop. It's described as such in all theatres, but seems to only have issues automating in specific theatres. I'm curious as to whether or not something in the respective IMS servers has something to do with this, but, nevertheless, we're doing research.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ran loops on both projectors in T1. To do this evening/ was completed: Hi everyone, please add inspection forms to Google Drive as the print is being inspected. It should be on there before the first screening in case we need to share any info about the print with projectionists and cinema. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Added credit offset cues to both brunch playlists for this weekend. The offset information is almost always included on the ingest letter attached to the email notifying us that the feature is ready to ingest. Ingested the Spiderverse trailer and added it to Pinocchio and Strange World playlists. I think this might have been the Pinocchio playlist, but something had lights down at 35 minutes and 5 minutes of trailers. It was definitely a PG, and I know we often don't have many all ages trailers so just check the preshow content sheet or ask Kat if something isn't timing out right and you've built it exactly according to the list. Ingested The Whale 15min and 25min preshows.

Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: I checked the cues on reel 6 and 7 of Jackie Brown , and rewound reel 8. The cues on 6 were alright, but were drawn on both sides of the film--grease cues should only be drawn on the base side. Reel 7 had no cues, neither motor nor changeover, so I added them. Another thing to be aware of is placing the cue within the frame for 1.85 prints (if they are printed full frame). The cues on Jackie would have absolutely been visible on screen (except the one on reel 2), but it's best to draw the cue roughly one sprocket down on the right side of the frame, so it appears right at the top right corner of the screen. To do this evening/ was completed: Hey, everyone. Just going to mention right off the bat that I had a hard time projecting Jackie Brown this morning, despite the show ending well. The first c/o cue was not great because the release pin, for whatever reason, did not open the shutter. I've had bad luck with this and I'm not the only one. That never occurred again (and it only displayed three seconds of black), but Alec and I are going to investigate on all machines to check in on the wiring/placement, which can shift and interfere with the back and forth. The next issue I had is that the grease cues on Reel 2 were so unbelievably imperceptible that I missed it and patrons saw some of the countdown. When you make grease cues on a print like this and they're on a dark part of the image, you absolutely need to make them a little uglier than usual by drawing them out more, or find a lower part of the frame and make note of it on the inspection report. Below are are photos of wha

Downloaded and ingested Avatar preshow content and built all first run (12/16) playlists and trailer packs. Cleaned the 35mm projectors in T1. Double checked the cue sheets and cross-referenced them with the sales page. Note: The Nitehawk website does not list the 11:30 Strange World screening as OCAP, but that's what was circulated in the schedule email and that's what's scheduled in the TMS--just be aware. Reached out to John W about return shipping for The Thing-- standby. Presentation Issues: During the last round in T4, about fifty minutes into the feature ( Bones and All) , I noticed that the image on screen was pushed a bit to the left, with bleed on the left curtain. I went into the theater and expanded the masking, which presented the whole image but also resulted in basically a pillarboxed look. I didn't want to attempt to manually reposition the proj

To do this evening/ was completed: Friendly reminder that we will be having a cinema meeting next Thursday, the 15th, at noon! Let us know if you can make it...  Also, I have a friend up in Boston who could potentially give us some 70mm machinery.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Avatar: The Way of Water came through from Deluxe, though we don't have the kdm yet. I ingested the CCAP and OCAP. Ingested the 5.1 first, then the 7.1 and deleted the 5.1.  Downloaded and ingested new preshow content from Kat:  TLR_NPP_FORECAST_1216_A TLR_NPP_FORECAST_1216_B TLR_NPP_Neverending Story TLR_NPP_TimesSquare_V2   Our 12/16 playlists can be built, though the Avatar and some SE event playlists will need their cues adjusted w/credits offset info.  I adjusted the A Christmas Story playlist with its house lights up cue for credits and adjusted the cue sheet.  I added the house lights up cue to Silent Night/Deadly Night in the playlist.  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Al

To do this evening/ was completed: Built and scheduled show playlists for the week (specifically through Wednesday) for  Triangle of Sadness Presentation Issues: Nothing outstanding tonight as I made my rounds throughout the course of the evening Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: The Christmas themed  Kevin Geeks Out event in theater 1 this evening was a resounding success and a very pleasant 90 minutes to be a part of even if I was in the booth above the auditorium for its duration; I went over the run of show with Cristina prior to the event starting which was a big help in knowing manual cues for certain light changes and the extra time the hosts had to quickly run through their presentations during the flip was also extremely beneficial to their overall preparedness (the mics, mixer, and XLR cables were brought back up to the 4/6 booth) Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): We received one sheets for  Blue Beetle (a soon to be released DC su

Projection Admin 12/08 A few notes from yesterday...plus training initiatives!

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey all. I got food poisoning yesterday, which is why I ran out feeling ill. Much better now, but I won't be going back to Overgeens any time soon. Feeling loads better today!  Just wanted to follow Alec's last blog and say that yes, we did indeed add quite a bit of visual information to the Projectionist manual. Piggybacking off the previous image guide I made for edge damage, I added in the written info and visual (with a text overlap) for the new Karaoke setup in Trees. Alec added multiple images to the Spoons write up and the Yamaha Mixer, more closely identifying its components and why we use them so frequently.    Today I had McKegg come in early for some extra training initiatives. We'll spend the next few Thursdays working mostly on 35mm projection with AV mixed in. This will dovetail nicely with the visual guides that Alec and I will be adding to and, once everyone gets a chance--please read them. Alec did a fantastic write up on

NPP Projection Close 12/7

To do this evening/ was completed: Yes Presentation Issues: Had a slight issue with the caption devices connecting in Theater 1. Alec just reset the receiver on the sound tower in 1 and it started working again.    Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: The Wiz tonight went great! Alec was there to supervise, but for the most part all threading, changeovers, and overall operation was done by me. Apart from a framing adjustment right at the beginning, it went off without a hitch!  Mic and mixer are broken down and back in Booth 4/6 Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content):  Print/video Inspection: I started doing a post-inspection on The Wiz . I got 1 reel deep before I had to go.  Asset tracking doc updated/checked?:  Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): I filled out the rest of the cue sheets including end times for next week. The only thing that needs end timing i
