To do this evening/ was completed: Cinema meeting went well. Super fast! We have all content.  One more thing: PLEASE NOTE - Projectionists, it is super important that you please, please tag us when you inspect a print that contains concerning damage and before you make any substantial adjustments/repairs, text or call Alec and I. Remember - although it is part of our jobs to make certain repairs/and or adjustments that are appropriate, we are not a lab, and depending on the Distro, you might need permission in order to make any changes. Some repairs cause more damage and pose more of a threat to projection. In such cases where damage is leaning towards the extreme (listed as Poor  on the report), I would rather we get a new print or swap out some reels.  I have updated the inspection report for Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Reels 1 & 5 will be fine for projection. Here is the note (please make sure to read the part about those packed reels! Thanks!) UPDATE: I have adjusted the inspec

I think the countdown leader I had spliced on at this point had simply not wound with enough tension (I wound it onto the takeup by hand, and therefore not at a consistent rate, when I got the brain wrap last time. Just ran deck to deck again after that. When I was screening the film off the platter at first, the picture seemed a bit dim but I think my eyes were playing tricks on me. Lillian checked the theater and confirmed this issue. We went behind 3/7. Lillian stopped the show from running and went up to wipe the port glass. The dowser was closed and reopened once we forwarded the show to the appropriate timecode. The picture brightness was back after this and the show was resumed.  Preshow Clips/Playlist:  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up:  PLEASE NOTE: For The Hunger this evening, I programmed a preset for the wash/spots. To do this evening/ was completed: Full house tonight, super busy. John Wick 4 is really drawing out a crowd. I took a look around the projectors in 4/6, where Jack saw the flash/pop thing from last night. Didn't find anything out of the ordinary, but I'll continue to look. I did smell something toxic around P1 not long ago, so there could've been a fuse issue, or something that leaked and caused a reaction, but I haven't seen anything just yet.  The rectifiers are never on in T6, which is a good thing.  As Alec mentioned, we've got a new bulb on the way. Neither of us heard back from Roger, who is pretty much swamped with work right now, so that makes sense! No harm though, I'm really grateful for that Interlight website. We pretty much matched it with the model in P2 (an Osram), since P1 had a Philips, which is an older model. Fingers crossed this comes Monday, but Tuesday would be fine. Alec got the fastest shipping possible... Presentation Issues:  Preshow C

To do this evening/ was completed: So the flash/pop incident last night was not a lamp, I looked at all of the ones in 4/6 and none had burst. I'm pretty unsure what else this could have been, but Lillian and I will be clearing the crawlspace by the T6 Simplexes out soon. I tried running the film I had built up on the platter, but a warped/sticky tail leader gave me a pretty bad brain wrap. The film (a throwaway trailer that's been here since the Pavilion days) took some damage in the projector, so I spliced the damage out and then just ran the rest of the film from the middle deck to the upper deck directly, not going through the projector. I ordered a new bulb for projector 1, Theater 1. I chose next day shipping, so it should be here by Monday ( maybe Tuesday at the very latest if they don't ship on weekends). Once I receive tracking I'll share it. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Matilda intro and screening w

To do this evening/ was completed: Toward the end of the shift, as I was using the 4/6 desktop, out of the corner of my eye I saw and heard a very quick burst of amber light. I turned to see what had just happened and saw an old bulb resting on top of a stack of Christie lamp packages. I can't say for sure that the old lamp was the source of the explosion but I think it's the only logical culprit I can observe. I told MOD about it, and also told them that I hadn't disposed of these bulbs before and didn't want to touch it. So we left things alone.  Downloaded and ingested all first run preshow content--3/31 first run playlists have been built. 4/6 swept and mopped. DCPs made for Getting it Back and Lee Fields-- both on DCP II drive. To do this evening/ was completed: Hi projectionists! So this morning we checked out the bulb in T1, reseated it, cleaned the lamp house, etc. We ran Eternal Sunshine for Desmond. Bulb flickered a bit...then stabilized. Ultimately, we wound up bypassing the airflow switch and, cut/frayed the wires and taped them together. This switch tells the lamp that it's okay to turn on. It's in a stable position, so the lamp should stay lit once you strike it. That being said, we are actively trying to get new bulbs from Roger, but if he doesn't have any in storage, it will take at least a month since they're made to order now.  There's a tech website we can get ones from within a week, so that's another option, might be more expensive...Roger is going to storage this evening to see if they've got any, so hopefully by tonight we'll know and can make a decision in the next few days.  Ran Interview With A Vampire (got volume, noted on the card). Looks great! Same fo

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: During the screening of  Spirited Away  the lamp went out a few minutes prior to the changeover between reels 3 and 4. I managed to strike the bulb and called Lillian to ask about potential fixes in the event that it went dark again. As I was making the switch between reels, the bulb went off just as I had anticipated, and after trying and failing to strike it twice, I called Lillian again after bringing up the house lights and communicating the issue to MOD. She walked me through resetting the power to the projector and carefully turning the bulb from the back of the machine in order to better align it. This quick fix seemed to work as the bulb remained lit for the rest of the show and no other issues occurred. I then made an announcement over the microphone to let the audience understand the issue and started running the print shortly after. Overall the screening ended up running behind by about 5 minutes total. Preshow Clips/Pl

To do this evening/ was completed: Spirited Away in T4 went very smoothly--good amount of staff showed, was a fun time. We re-spliced the head leader on reel five as it was attached improperly to the rest of the reel. Should be all good to go now. Ingested keys for The Hunger. Tech'd A Good Person and John Wick-- volume brought down to 5.0 for the latter. DCP made for Naked Gardens slide. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Memorial slide for John Wick is very short...but it's all set! The Hunger keys don't open until Saturday, but Matilda opens up tomorrow.  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Spirited Away is back in T1! To do this evening/ was completed: Had our cinema meeting today! Feeling very good about what spring/summer will usher in...more projects. I do just want to make a quick note: Projectionists, please do not forget to tag the programmers (including Alec and I) in an inspection report for a heavily damaged print. If you inspect anything that has a 3 or 4 level of damage, alert us immediately. This is mostly in response to The Fugitive , which was in rather poor condition. For a number of reasons, it is crucial we prioritize print inspection, no matter how much time we have (both small and wide margins of it).  We'll be taking a look at a few things on Friday with Desmond: The Hunger, Matilda , Interview with a Vampire and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind . Next, there will be an FOH meeting in T3 and in Trees from 11am to 2pm.  Presentation Issues: Not an issue, but no one showed up for the first screening of Ant-Man in T6, so we scrapped it.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Tech

To do this evening/ was completed: My first solo 35 outing went great! Outside of that, it was the usual Tuesday night business Presentation Issues: During Breathless , Cristina and I noticed on Projector 2 that the focus was going in and out. I was doing my best to keep it consistent. It was not an issue on Projector 1 at all, so it didn't wholly seem like it was the print. I did notice that the film playing on Projector 2 would moving back and forth within the reels.  It was more noticeable during the credits as I saw the text going in and out. I talked to Cristina about it afterwards and how it might be a combo of that projector, the print itself, and the house reels they were on.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Automation scheduled for next week apart from event playlists and Dungeons & Dragons Trailer Updates:  Special Events/ AV set up: Other than the Projector 2 focus issue, Breathless went great! A few minutes after the feature started I got a call from the MODs that the guest complained it was not working (that it just kept reading "Dolby Captiview Ready" but did not display any closed captions). I went down to the theater with a second closed captioning device and tried getting that to display captions to no avail. I then went up to the booth to reset the Fidelio device connected to the rack and, after three power cycles and three failed attempts to get captions on the device screen, I called MOD

To do this evening/ was completed: Roger was here working on the projector 1 lamp/power supply in Theater 1. He noted that all the safety switches were deactivated, except the AC blower one. He cleaned out the AC blower as it was clogged and could have prevented the lamp from striking. The more likely cause though is that the voltage increased after the power supply was changed, and the lamp shut off because the voltage was too high. We left the lamp on for a while (it was on for over two hours before I turned it off), and it stayed on so this should be OK. We should check the brightness on both projectors in there now to make sure they're even, since the voltage on projector 1 has been lowered. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: The Fugitive screening went well in Theater 4. We have just about everything apart from   TLR_SE_CarsGoneWild Special Events/ AV set up: Got home quite late, so I'll update you folks on yesterday evening.  The Oscars show went very well. Thanks again, Jack & Matthew, for getting that new cable box sorted. Insane that it went out on us that morning. Since I noticed that, around ten minutes in, the show cut out and the Verizon display came on, which is basically an "are you still watching?" type thing (so all that's needed is to just press a random button and you're back on), and since I'm paranoid, I wound up sticking by the cable monitor all night to make sure that I'd be there with the remote s

To do this evening/ was completed: Started the day by troubleshooting the cable box connectivity issues Will mentioned last night. Eventually reconfigured the HDMI connections in 4/6 per Alec's description, which gave me an image on screen. However, the image quickly froze and I ran through an extensive troubleshoot that ultimately did not resolve the the cable box issues. The box was essentially powercycling itself over and over endlessly. After speaking with Verizon Tech Support, they determined that the box was experiencing total failure and that it needed to be replaced. Luckily Matthew was on hand and promptly retrieved the new box from a pickup center. After some more time on the phone with tech support, the new box started to work properly. I ran a quick test on screen before round two in T1 and also tested the floater laptop directly connected to the projector via HDMI. Both methods worked well so we should be good to go.  Changed the Verizon password during this process, a

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Final round in theater 7 began with sound, but no picture, at the start of the feature CPL (closing and reopening the dowser fixed this); MOD called and asked me to start the feature file over from the beginning -- roughly 8 minutes had elapsed in darkness Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Alec asked me to test the cable TV connection to theater 1 during a flip this evening and, despite my best efforts to troubleshoot the issue, I could not get picture or sound up on screen from the cable box in 4/6 (which was displaying programming from ABC with no issue); I cycled between the DCP Flat and Blu-Ray ZOOM lens macros to see if the image wasn't just delayed in getting to the projector through the HDMI/ethernet cables, disconnected and reconnected all inputs to the AJA and ethernet port in the booth, disconnected and reconnected power to the booth AJA device, and still could not get any image or s

NPP Projection Report 3/11 Open + OSCARS NOTES

To do this evening/ was completed: IMPORTANT NOTE: Tomorrow morning is daylight savings (spring forward), and for some inexplicable reason whenever the clocks go forward or back the TMS moves all scheduled shows an hour ahead or backward to "compensate" for the time change. I moved all schedules for tomorrow through Thursday an hour early, so when the TMS moves them an hour ahead when clocks go forward, they'll be scheduled for the correct time. This has happened every year so it will be fine, but please double check the schedule to make sure everything tomorrow through Thursday is scheduled at the correct time. At least this is supposed to be the last daylight savings time change, thankfully. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Switched PG-13 playlists for Thursday 3/16 to the new 3/17 versions on the schedule, so the Shazam trailer doesn't play. The Ghibli preshow clips did not upload fully, 25min is missing audio (and has extra pkl & cpl files), 15m

To do this evening/ was completed: Took down Knock, Magic Mike and After Hours letters-- Psycho II back up on the marquee. Built and scheduled a playlist for School of Rock. Downloaded and ingested all upcoming preshow content aside from Ghibli (incomplete package)   and the Cars Gone Wild trailer. All 3/17 first run playlists have been built. Re-inspected After Hours print--ready for outgoing shipping, pickup yet to be scheduled. Removed a lot of content from the DCP II drive, as it was at capacity. Although I specifically did not select the DCP for A Silent Voice when I emptied the desktop trash can, that content still ended up getting deleted. Not sure what happened there, but I double-checked the T4 server and it's still there. Just a heads up that it's no longer on the DCP II drive. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content):

To do this evening/ was completed: Please take After Hours , Magic Mike , and Knock at the Cabin down from the marquee. After Hours can be reinspected and packed up for return. Download and ingest new preshow content and build next week's playlists. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Jane picked up the Night Shift posters today. UPS has yet to pick up the other boxes though, I let the event people know so they can arrange another pickup. Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): School of Rock came! I ingested it to Theater 2. Playlist can be built and scheduled when it's done. I'll QC it quickly before opening tomorrow. We also got Women Talking back (?), was probably dropped off at UPS without the shipping label removed. Had to download A Silent Voice again, the download last night failed. It worked today, and I extracted and ingested it with enough time for a quick tech. Playlist
