10/17/24 Projection Admin (Big day)

To do this evening/ was completed: I really want to try to be succinct with this blog since there's a lot we did today and not all of it needs to be in here (I don't want to overwhelm the blog and left enough notes for myself for tomorrow, in my planner) but it's still going to be a decent read. Really sorry for the eyesore.  We had our tech for NewFestxHBO's Somebody Somewhere screening this Saturday. I came in this morning to set up the external speakers, mixer, and wired mics, which are all working beautifully. Got all 8 chairs out so that we could run through the spots, which I'll be personalizing tomorrow along with a few other changes (masking cues for the episodes). We got some last minute slides on the spot, so I ingested those whilst everyone was there. Hosts/reps watched the episodes all the way through. We didn't get OCAP files, which apparently we were supposed to, but we tested our CCAP devices with them and they work just fine. We'll likely ro

To do this evening/ was completed: Majority of the night spent with NewFest. Both programs went smoothly overall.  T1 mics returned to the booth to charge. Recorded the Q&A via webcam, yet to be transferred off the rack PC should anyone ending up wanting it. There was one presentation issue which I'll detail below. Continued building next week's cue sheets. Got to Tuesday, so the rest can get hammered out over the next day or two. I would recommend cross-referencing the cue sheets and TMS schedule with the Nitehawk Sales page just to be certain everything is correct. Another note: 10/22 Babies playlist yet to be scheduled. Scheduled We Live in Time and Smile 2 for tomorrow. We Live feature content transferring to T4. Make sure it's there tomorrow. DJ key returned to Trees storage bin and XLR to 1/8th back in 4/6. **I updated the cue times for Dead Mail on the cue sheet . The playlist we've made has 45 minutes of preshow before the intro starts and I'm seeing now

To do this evening/ was completed: Had our cinema meeting. We're looking good on content right now.  Presentation Issues: Not a presentation issue, but I came in this morning to find that T3 was offline (it did not display this on the TMS - only when I went to go pull up the individual IMS was I not able to log in) and each scheduled playlist had an "spl missing" warning on the schedule. I rebooted the TMS, then rebooted the projector and was able to log back into the IMS. Nothing was missing, I went through each playlist to check content and all automation cues - mind you, the only reason I first saw that T3 was offline was I was adding the lens preset/various cues we needed in T5 for Joker and saw that the DCP 220 Scope cue was missing from T3, which I found suspicious since that's one of the first theatres we outfitted with the preset. Anyway, despite the TMS still showing "spl missing" on the playlists, everything has been automating just fine. This feel

To do this evening/ was completed:  Presentation Issues: Last rounds in theaters 1 and 3 were started manually following the NewFest events Preshow Clips/Playlist: Added the T4TRANSGRESSIVE and Carnage for Christmas show playlists to theaters 1 and 3 on the TMS for tomorrow so the missing content transfers overnight Built and scheduled an OCAP infants show playlist for Piece by Piece on 10/22 Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: The events in 1 and 3 overlapped and the former ran slightly over due to NewFest organizers obsessing over light cues and chair placement/having to test light levels and mics for the camera crew before the show -- this aside, the shorts program in 1 and The Talented Mr. Ripley Film Feast screening in 3 went about as smoothly as they could given all the running around and last minute techs + the Q&A was recorded and stored on the booth 1 desktop Wireless mics in 1 were brought back to the booth to charge (the wired mic is still connected to its mixer

To do this evening/ was completed: McKegg had to jump over to WB to cover for Joe so it's just me today. Made sure Speak No Evil is on T4 server. All good there. Tech'd both of tonight's NewFest playlists by myself and with Desmond and NewFest reps. Content is all good. Spotlights all good, mics all set. 4 wireless and 1 wired in T1. 1 wired in T3. For T1 spotlights, 302 for intro and 502 for Q&A. Be sure to turn off the spotlight breaker on the T1 breaker board once the shorts begin, as the spotlights inside the theater make a considerable amount of noise when left on. I tested Spotify in T1, all good there. I'm sure the same is true for T3 but didn't test it today (we used the connection last night). House Lights MID cue added to T1 Q&A. **The NewVoices playlist needed a particular 1.78 lens/mask cue repositioned, so I put it right after Girl Blunt, instead of after the Cai slide, which is where it was during tech, causing the slide's image to be cropp

To do this evening/ was completed: Both NewFest intros and screenings went smoothly. Mics returned to their resting places. We received the print of The Devil's Backbone. It's residing in the T1 booth. Presentation Issues: Last round in T1, Speak No Evil, had to be canceled. I was informed by MOD that the cleaning lights had come up in T1 and that there was no film on screen, after the preshow and trailers concluded. I was kind of bewildered initially but quickly discerned the feature was not on the T1 server, which was rather perplexing because I checked the multiplex content Sunday night and saw that the playlist was loaded on that server, and I was able to load it tonight, as it was a manual start, which is ultimately the the reason for this incident. For a while I was pretty confused about the existence of the playlist on the server, having been under the impression that it could only be there once automated content transfer was initiated by the TMS, but I am now distantly

To do this evening/ was completed: Alec will be out until next Tuesday. I will be in for admin on Saturday and the evening will be done remotely.  Desmond, Dustin and I tech'd the playlists this morning for NewFest. Everything is in order and the new slide looks great. I updated the playlists. Tuesday - Desmond will want to go over the playlists for tomorrow, too. And we'll need to make sure the NewFest loops for the TVs are on for the after party!  Spotify is open on both the 3/7 comp and T1 iMac computer. We're using Desmond's account in T1 and our projection account in 3/7. T1 via mac mini/imac.  HBO Tech confirmed for Thursday in T2!  Double checked the IMS servers showing Piece by Piece to make sure nothing looks funky.  Cleared what we don't need off the desktop.  Presentation Issues:  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built the playlist for Dead Mail , which we still need to QC. We also received a new slide for the intro/q&a and can test both out. I'll be upda

To do this evening/ was completed: Double-checked tomorrow's NewFest playlists, they're good to go. DCP'd the Fleischer October Shorts and ingested that along with the Betty Boop feature to TMS. Substance round two in T3 tomorrow will need a manual start. Or you can manually start the NewFest playlist that comes after it if you choose to schedule Substance.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Yes Marquee updated?: Posters updated?: Cleaning lights on for the night?: Projection cart by entrance?: Additional Notes:

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: There were a few volume complaints made about the trailers for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in theater 7 (second round) and the level was brought down + ended up doing the same for the feature once it started since it was an open captions screening and the crowd seemed fussy Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built and scheduled an infants show playlist for The Substance  on 10/15 (seats have been sold and the volume is set to 4.8 which, knowing how this film is mixed, might still be too loud so let's keep an ear on this when it screens -- note: this round overlaps with the Film Feast  event in theater 3 whose content is on the server and will need to be played manually ) Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: NewFest events in theaters 1 and 3 went smoothly (it seems like the lead event coordinator is going to change from day to day so touching base about communications protocol is a must) All wireless mics were returned to booth 1 to c

To do this evening/ was completed: Caught up on a few notes for NewFest in our main thread. So far, so good. We'll be sure to take a look at the new DCP of When The Lights Come On this Monday. I sent the content to T1! Presentation Issues: Note:  Preshow Clips/Playlist: I checked the playlists for Piece By Piece again (no issues today) I think doing that editing in all those servers yesterday seemed to have done the trick, but I'll keep investigating this.  Double checked the NewFest playlists for tomorrow. We're all set.  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Brought the mics up from T1 to charge.  Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Downloaded the Betty Boop feature content. I started on the DCP, which is finishing to the preshows/trailers drive and will be ready for ingest tomorrow. Note: It's not all 1.37, it's got some 1.78 in there, so that's what the file will say.  Downloaded the opener video for the cartoon

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Some of the shorts for the TLC playlist for T1 today hadn't been switched to the updated OCAP versions. Desmond and I caught this when running through the playlist before doors and I swapped everything out that needed to be. Double checked the T4T playlist which also should be fully captioned, and this one looks good. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Both NewFest screenings went very well today. I left the four mics under the curtain in Theater 3 as well as two stands. -Mics need to be retrieved from Theater 1 and put on the charging station after this round finishes, I didn't get a chance to grab them before house lights went down for the next show. -I ordered another wired mic from Amazon for next Saturday. We're going to need 4 for the Q&A in T3 and 2 for T2, plus one in Trees, and I can only locate 6 currently. -Lillian's Spotify login info wasn't working so I had Desm

To do this evening/ was completed: NewFest is underway and, save for the Q&A going over time this evening, everything so far is running smoothly Presentation Issues: Going to refer to Lillian's blog regarding the extent of the TMS/IMS/cue sheets confusion earlier today which, thankfully, has been resolved and not had any continued effect on playback Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Connected and tested the mic at Trees by the NewFest step and repeat and left it in place for future use this week (the bench panel is powered off + the key is back in the A/V closet bin) There were intros for Gondola and Hidden Flora in theaters 3 and 4, respectively, and a Q&A following the latter in 4 (the mic in 3 was placed beneath the curtain for the time being and the stand is off to the side for tomorrow's event -- gear in 4 was put back in the A/V bin and additional XLRs and mics were brought back to the 4/6 booth)  All chairs used for the Q&A h

To do this evening/ was completed: NewFest starts today. Lots of moving parts, but this evening should be a relative breeze. I've gone over things with Will this evening, but please see notes below.  Presentation Issues: Something extremely bizarre happened this evening (because of course, on the first day of NewFest) in which the showtimes for Piece by Piece were apparently incredibly off with the offset info. Everything looked matched up on the TMS/cue sheet but the feature showed to only be an hour long...it took me a minute to see what was wrong, and whilst the playlists were correct on the TMS and were sent to each individual theater showing Piece by Piece , it turns out that when you look at the playlist in each IMS, its not correct. I have no idea why this happened, but I quickly edited the playlists in each IMS to match what we made in the TMS. I refreshed the schedule and it worked. This wasn't a massive interference, but I double checked everything for the weekend.

To do this evening/ was completed: Downloaded and ingested Romance_V2, Smile2 preshow elements, as well as the Fire Walk With Me trailer. Built 10/18 trailer packs and all A1 playlists aside from Smile 2, waiting on that feature upload. For the R-rated films, there are two trailer packs currently, one for Joker/Substance , the other for Different Man/We Live in Time. For the other R-rated features I wasn't sure which pack to go with so Kat if you can clarify please let us know. Maybe the KGO Terror trailer should've had specific features attached to it? Inspected the first reel of The Bad Seed. It's in good condition. Back on shipping reels for now. T3 Uncropped screening and Q&A went smoothly. Broke down equipment afterward. Checked tomorrow's cue sheets at the end of the night. The credit times for My Old Ass, A Different Man, Joker, Beetlejuice and Piece by Piece were all significantly off. Updated those so now they're correct. I quickly looked over the weeke

To do this evening/ was completed: I went around checking the NewFest playlists and feature content again this morning, filling in the cue sheets with credits/Q&A information for the next week.  Kat sent the new content for 10/18 a little early. I downloaded and ingested the forecasts and the trailer for the 90s docs.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built the playlist for The Talented Mr. Ripley , we'll just have to QC once the keys are in and have opened up.  QC'd and adjusted the playlist for The Bloody Lady & Shorts .  Trailer Updates: Updated the trailer packs today. Book_Fall was definitely the stand out- too loud, so I brought it down.  Special Events/ AV set up: Tested mics for Uncropped tonight in T3.  Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Received, labeled and stored posters for  Y2K  and  Mickey   17 .  Ordering/Receiving (content): Ingested the DCPs of We Live in Time We received the updated DCP of When The Lights Come Up (with revised

To do this evening/ was completed: Re-organized the first run letters on the marquee. Demon Knight intro and screening went very smoothly. Re-inspected the print and packaged it up for outgoing. To do this evening/ was completed: Staff Screenings and Weekly Update are out. It is super important that you get your eyes on that Weekly Update as Desmond is cc'd and has added extra details for you to look over. I have added these details to the attached document in the update! - Lillian  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built the playlist for The Bloody Lady (I'll do a final QC tomorrow) - L NOTE - The NF playlists should start with the DCP_PS pack for 1.78 since the preshow content is 1.78. I adjusted the playlists today with this and also the audience award slide where necessary. We will tech all of these. - L Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Received and ingested the following content for the Brooklyn Horror preshow content: TEETH Ad, Den of Geek Ad, Dark Sky Ad, Revised Intro/Q&A Slides, Arrow(BHFF), Bumper. To do this evening/ was completed: Spent the majority of the evening building the cue sheets for the week ahead and made sure to cross reference the schedule on the TMS so that the start and end credits were accurate. There are still a handful of NewFest shows whose cues need to be filled out and other special events/first runs toward the end of the week without SPLs that can be added to in time Presentation Issues: Final round in theater 2 was paused and did not start as scheduled. This was delayed by a few minutes as I was troubleshooting the issue at Trees around the same time the pre-show was meant to begin and MOD radioed Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Set up for trivia at Trees this evening. Ultimately had to troubleshoot a feedback issue since the dials for the output levels on the bench panel were mysteriously turned all the way down, leading me to believe something was wrong with the cables/the panel itself. Got everything working normally

To do this evening/ was completed: Tech'd Annarchy Artist OCAP  (NewFest) and Demon Knight with Desmond, volumes logged. Built A1 playlists for Piece by Piece and scheduled the week in TMS. Cue sheets can get made this evening. Talented Mr. Ripley ingested to T3. Built all of the NewFest playlists listed in the 10/11 trailer list with the exception of Ripley . I imagine there will need to be some tweaks and I'll go over the playlists again in the next two days. I talked to Desmond about OCAP vs CCAP for shorts programs and he said that if there are two versions of a short, go with the OCAP. Maybe this has been mentioned already but reiterating here. For the T4Transgressive program, I'm including the more recently created version of Saturn Rising (10012024) . I'm assuming it's a V2 situation. I didn't see mention of that short by name in the blogs. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Uploaded keys for Uncropped

To do this evening/ was completed: Kim came in this morning to meet with Dustin, Desmond and I for more NewFest tech checks. We went over the preshow and NF slide in T3, along with features How Not To Date While Trans and I Used To Be A Woman But I Gave It All Up For Christ (The spotlights look excellent with the NewFest slide!) In T1 we went over the new OCAP DCPs for Gender Reveal , Seat 31 , and Thigh Rise and looked over a few other bits of content, like trailers, plus all of the slides for New Voices and the entire New Voices shorts program. Kim added the new DCP of Annarchy Artist to the spreadsheet yesterday, so I downloaded and ingested it today. We also looked at the normal center spots setting in T1 with the NF slide and we're all set to have that for Q&As.  The one (or two) things we're waiting on that is more integral to playlist building is just the Audience slide awards, but I think we can go ahead and get a move on with these since that'll be easy to

To do this evening/ was completed: A bit of a chaotic morning here with double events during the first round and a slightly tight conclusion to one of them, but otherwise fine.  Presentation Issues: A guest asked for a closed caption device in Theater 1 for Joker and once I brought it down, they asked if a person sitting at the tale next to them (who I assume were their parents), could have one too. I went to the closet to get the other one and even though it looked like it was plugged in, the battery was dead. I informed the guests and made sure the device was plugged into a charger that worked.  Are we waiting on something, like a part for the clamps or new screws for the other two that are out of commission? Cause they appear to be working fine.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: My first Sundays on Fire went off fairly well despite a lot of elements complicating it. The trailers reel had no head, but per Lillian's advice, I threaded it to the

To do this evening/ was completed: Grabbed the Almodovar drive from Williamsburg yesterday and brought it back here. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built and scheduled the playlist for the Home Alone 2 private event tomorrow. I put in a lights up cue for the credits based on the blu-ray rip file, but did not look at the DCP on screen so it should be checked for volume tomorrow morning and also confirmation that the credit offset is correct. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Spoons setup went smoothly. When you're breaking this down, please always bring the mics back up to the booth to charge (they were left in the pouch on the rack mount case for the mic receivers after Wednesday's show), and leave the DMX cable & gender changer (for the spotlight board) under the curtain in the theater, it doesn't need to be in the booth. Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Ingested Home Alone 2 to Theater 7 for tomorrow.

To do this evening/ was completed: Remembered we have a Joker 2 show in T4 this weekend, so I made a new lens preset on the christie, made and adjusted the cues for the masking and lens format in the IMS and tested the A1 playlist.  Presentation Issues: Not a major issue, but we moved the staff screening into T3 this morning due to incredibly loud and intense drilling in and outside of T2. We will need to steer clear of any early screenings in T2 for a hot minute...probably another few weeks. Of course, for our NF36 tech with HBO, we will definitely make sure the theatre is clear for that once we have a solid date and will communicate accordingly with Matthew, Juan, and the workers.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built all new A1 playlists and made any and all necessary changes to the trailer packs for 10/11. You'll see in the new trailer list that there's an enormous tab of NewFest 36 playlists. We still need the audience slides, but other than that, we have just about everything.

To do this evening/ was completed: More NewFest techs!  Desmond, Dustin and I went over the new OCAP versions of some of the shorts and made notes about the ones that still need adjusting with their subtitling files, aspect ratios, etc. This morning I downloaded and ingested all available trailers to T1/TMS, but the trailers will also need to go to T3. I have a tech playlist for the last bit of shorts, but we'll also go through the feature I Used To Be... along with the rest of the shorts and new trailers on Monday, with Kim. Today we also went through all of the trailers, land acknowledgment and sponsor vids we have in T1. Everything looks and sounds good. There's a lot of trailers this year. Apparently we won't be using all of them, but let's keep them on the server just in case.  Also!
