NPP Projection Report Friday 1/31 CLOSE Chris

Presentation Issues: -I believe Karen thoroughly covered this in an email but there were serious issues with the CP500 for the 6:20 Lil Women; no sound for the first three minutes and it dropped out again the very moment the 500 was taken off manual. The last foil cues continue to fail to fire. The platter worked fine, tho it is not a graceful competence, double-wrapping the film around the brain in the first fourth of the movie before the motor kicks in. -The Rhythm Section SPL had it's LTS DOWN cue set to fire at the beginning of the 10 count preshow portion, rather than the end when the trailers hit. Fixed that. Playback tab told me TMS defaulted to using the old SPL that technically doesn't exist after having been saved over yesterday.  I deleted the old SPL from servers 3 and 6, re-ingested new SPL onto all relevant servers for the week. Scheduled "6th round" shows in 3 and 6 to make sure automation uses correct SPL. It did, first cue fired where it should in both houses: right after director credit. Still, think it wise for MODs and Proj to keep an eye on end of show in T3 tomorrow and T6 on Monday to make sure they took. -When running the Jojo  credits in T3 i noticed some speaker buzz from back of the house, screen right corner, either back wall JBL or furthest back speaker screen right wall. Presentation Issues: -There were no presentation issues. -Little Women still actually looks quite beautiful. About 8 minutes into reel 1, there is a slight, barely noticeable base scratch that stretches down about 1/3 of the frame, it is slightly off-center and lasts only 3 minutes or so. The second scratch is more unfortunate, it occurs 5 min into reel 6 and is smack in the middle, bolder, and runs the length of the frame. This one lasts for about 10 minutes. (If we are sending this straight to another exhibitor, we should give them a heads up, they may want to request a replacement for reel 6.)  I am describing these in detail so that everyone knows what has already occurred and can be on the lookout for any new scratching. Alec did a deep clean and generously lubricated all rollers but as base scratches occur mostly from mis-threading the sound head, I am attaching two pictures of each sound head threaded, take note of the tension floaters and the proper spacing. -The only iss

Presentation Issues: -At around 5:10, I decided to go down into booth 1 to take a look at the platter before I left for the day. At that time, I heard an intermittent alarm going off. Four beeps every 30 seconds, I could tell it was coming from the rack but I couldn't tell which component so I went to get Alec for a second set of ears. We discovered it was coming from the ASC battery back up. I looked up the type of alarm we were experiencing online and found out that the battery was overloaded so it had stopped pulling electricity from the building and switched everything over to battery power. So Alec started unplugging non-essential components in an effort to try and lighten the load while I went down into the theater to see if you could hear the alarm from inside the theater. At around 5:30 pm the movie cut off, I ran back to the booth and saw that the battery had been spent. At the risk of sounding insane, I'm kind of glad it happened so as to have a sense of what to do in emergency scenarios of this type. Aside from the lack of preshow or trailers, the presentation of the feature itself went smoothly and according to plan, in-theatre staff adapted with ease. Presentation Issues: The only presentation issue was at the very beginning of Little Women on 35mm. Karen and I were discussing a superfluous call from theater 7 to adjust the sound and we missed the end of the trailers, so the film started a minute late. Otherwise, no issues tonight. Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built the 1917  playlist, and deleted Citizen Kane. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Citizen Kane  looked beautiful, no problems. Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Downloaded 1917 preshows and the updated Jan_B card from EVO. **We have not  yet received the keys for Just Mercy. Presentation Issues: -There were no presentation issues Preshow Clips/Playlist: - I had Chris build the "Just Mercy" playlist. It is currently missing the Jan B card and the feature. Trailer Updates: -We got a new trailmix today so I pulled the latest 'A Quiet Place 2' trailer. Special Events/ AV set up: -Teched TH1 for Spoons, Toons, & Booze tomorrow. Our poor little projection laptop is indeed on its way out. We noticed a lot of white crackle on the screen and we would intermittently lose picture. I replaced our laptop with an MOD's laptop and that worked fine. Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): -We received Dolittle posters today but it has been unbooked, officially. Ordering/Receiving (content): -Pulled the 1917 preshow from EVO and left it for Erin to ingest and tech. Pulled the Jan B card as well. -Ingested keys for Parasite (good until 2/13) and Matilda (live on 1/10 @ 1800, good until 5/2) -We received the Selena and the Ma

Presentation Issues: -There were no issues. -So far, masking is working fine in TH1. -Gave out a fidelio headphone device in TH1 for the first round of Little Women. Seat 1411. Preshow Clips/Playlist: -Made the Citizen Kane playlist (I put a 10 min welcome card in the front since playing 1st run trailers seemed wrong) Also, masking will have to come before the feature on this one since it is  137:1 -We are still waiting on 1917 preshow and all the 'new' house made trailers. Trailer Updates: -Ingested trailers for 'Oscar Shorts', 'Promising Young Woman', 'Emma', 'Wendy', & 'Call of the Wild' Special Events/ AV set up: -Trivia is set up and good to go. It seems that the hiss coming from the speakers while using DJ 1&2 output is only with our old projection laptop (we also tested Michael's phone and personal laptop and the sound is fine) Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content):

Presentation Issues: None tonight. -The scope masking cue worked for the late Star Wars show in theater 1 tonight. Just mentioning that the breaker for the 35mm projector was on, as the lamphouse was still cooling down when the preshow started. Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built, teched, and scheduled an adults with infants playlist of Bombshell for tomorrow. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ingested Just Mercy and Dolittle trailers from TrailMix. Karen, could you order posters for Dolittle during your admin tomorrow? Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Added Just Mercy and Dolittle . Maintenance/cleaning: Realigned the scope lens file and masking in theater 2, and adjusted the flat lens file in 6 slightly. The alignment in theater 4 looks good. Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Cues and TMS schedule checked for tomor

Presentation Issues: -About 5 minutes into Frozen 2 in TH3, the lamp decided to shut off. This time, totally on its own (I was definitely not late night teching in 7 and accidentally turned the lamp off).  Also, I was not still poking around in the rack looking at wires for TH3's CP750 , I had finished that almost an hour before we opened. I have no idea why this happened. I decided to restart the feature from the beginning when I got the lamp back on. Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: -I thoroughly checked masking connections in TH1 and sound processor connections in TH3. There were two wires coming out of the CP750 that had slipped out of their power relays in the circuit board, so I re-crimped them. -I wrote an email to Dolby customer serv

Presentation Issues: No issues tonight. -The masking in theater 1 did not switch to scope at the beginning of the Star Wars preshow at 6:50. I fired the scope masking cue from the IMS webpage, it worked and there were no problems for the rest of the show. The masking did, however, go back to flat at the end of the playlist, so the cue in the show end pack worked. The scope masking cue worked normally from the playlist for Bombshell at 10:03. Also, I checked the lens macro switch in theater 1 for both of these shows, and the lens change was completely hidden by the dowser both times. -When the 35mm show of Little Women ended the lamp didn't shut off automatically because the lamp had been turned on manually, and would have burned through the clear leader we added to the end of the print if I wasn't right there to close the dowser. Wouldn't have been a catastrophe by any means just make sure the lamp is switched off when you start the show and it will come on and shut

Presentation Issues: -There were no presentation issues. The curtains in TH1 were open to scope when I came in this morning (which they shouldn't be. I made some changes to the playlists before we opened which are detailed below to see if that would help. So far today, everything has automated properly. I was in the theater for the start of ET and they closed to flat and then I was there for the start of Frozen 2 and they opened to scope. -Started Little Women and made some adjustments together with Alec. We still need to adjust the masking plate into Reel 2. Print looks beautiful, and exactly the way it did on the first run. Those occasional dust marks have been there since the very first screening. Preshow Clips/Playlist: -I made some timing changes to when the masking cues fire within the following playlist packs: SCOPE lens/masking change, DCP_Show end, and SCOPE_feature. I am allowing a buffer on either side of the masking cues now. I did notice that the lens change and

Presentation Issues: I'm beginning to notice a few dust scratches on the Little Women print. No vertical scratches, just occasional marks, particularly around reel changes. **For the last two rounds in theater 1 the cues to change to masking scope didn't fire before either Star Wars or Bombshell.  (but obviously the flat masking cue fired or I wouldn't have had to fix the curtain for Bombshell ) Both times I opened the curtains manually from the control panel under the curtain. When I went back in the theater after the last round to test it again, the same macro worked fine. I even tried starting both of the playlists with the masking at flat, and the scope masking cues within the playlists fired both times. Frankly I have no clue what could be causing it to behave selectively like that. But as of my last testing, the masking SCOPE 239 cue is working in Theater 1. Presentation Issues: None today. Sound played normally all day in theater 3 and there have been no masking issues in theater 1 so far. The next two rounds in 1 are scope so Erin will be in the theater when preshow starts to check the masking. -Dan made some adjustments to projector #1 in theater 1 this morning. He moved the flat lens so the DTS timecode which was showing up in the Little Women print is pushed over to the left. It is now covered by the gaff tape on the port glass so no need to adjust the aperture plate for the first reel. Dan said the lens was a bit too far to the right which can expose the timecode. He also made a new masking stop (masking FILM 185) but with this setting the curtain was too far in for the film. I left the usual masking cues in the playlist. The print continues to look fantastic. Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: E.T. brunch screening in theater 1. No issues with this one. Ordering/Receiving (posters &

Presentation Issues: During the last round in Theater 1 for Star Wars  I got a call that the masking hadn't opened up to scope when the trailers started. It was a quick manual fix. I went in there after the show and tried firing the same cues from macro executions, and the curtains were functioning perfectly. Couldn't recreate it from playing the playlist. Little Women  looks gorgeous still! Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Received posters for Mulan and The Woman in the Window . Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (every shift): Checked for tomorrow- I adjusted the start times in the cue sheet to reflect the extra time in the Bombshell preshow. Presentation Issues: No issues in the first 1.5 rounds. -I tried diagnosing last night’s sound problem in theater 3 today, but I could not get the issue to repeat itself. I checked all connections for DCP audio to the CP750 and QSC amps as well as coming from the projector, ran Bombshell for a bit and checked the show playlists screening in there today. The somewhat good news is that cycling power to the CP750 and amps should do the trick if this happens again before we can look into it more closely (when I did this last night the processor muted itself after it came back on but I had control of the mute button and unmuted it without a problem, and there were no more issues with the sound for the rest of the show), if not we can restart the server. Karen suggested it could be that we might need to clean out the amps and sound processor, which sounds to me like a very valid potential cause for the issue. We are waiting to hear whether or not this is something we can safely do ourselve

Presentation Issues: About 20 minutes into today's first showing of  Bombshell in Theater 3, the sound started to go in and out of sync. Corresponding with the sound problem the mute button on the CP750 would start flashing red by itself. Pressing the button did nothing but firing the "Unmute" macro through TMS would temporarily make the sound go back to normal. After the problem persisted for a few minutes I stopped the movie and cycled power to the processor and amps. When I turned them back on the mute button was still lighting up by itself, but the sound was not going out of sync anymore, just cutting out. After the CP750 was on for a bit I could control the mute button by pressing it and the sound was fine for the rest of the show. While we were having the issue Gil contacted Billy from DMS who said the problem could have been caused by the server sending random commands to the rack, so we restarted the server before the next round. The following two shows ran witho
