NPP Projection Report 3/8 Open

To do this evening/ was completed: Daylight savings tonight... not sure how Screenwriter is going to account for this, if at all. I'm leaving the schedule as is for today and will adjust tomorrow if needed. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Noticed something really odd about Cinema Paradiso which we can't really do anything about but is worth mentioning. I noticed there's about an hour gap before the next preshow after this show, then saw the feature we received is just over two hours. I've always known this movie to be about 3 hours, though according to IMDb the South Korean theatrical release (as well as an Italian recut) was 2 hours and change so I guess that's the version we received a DCP of--why on God's green earth that would be the case I do not know. While I don't doubt these cuts make the movie easier to sit through, I don't think it was what we were expecting, website lists the runtime as...

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Built show playlists for Black Bag  and Novocaine  (still waiting on pre-show content for Opus ) and a special event playlist for The Iron Giant Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Received additional one sheets for Death of a Unicorn  and new posters for Magazine Dreams and Hurry Up Tomorrow Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Tech'd  Cinema Paradiso  after the final round in theater 3 and took note of the picture and sound quality (both good, save for a very brief moment at 1:58:14 when the top of the frame is cropped for seemingly no reason -- this happens as the main character sits down in a theater -- before opening back up to the full height) and the masking cue is operational and hides the pillar boxing nicely Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Tossed som...

To do this evening/ was completed: Almost all preshow content downloaded and ingested with the exception of the Cults_5min preshow element, which should be uploaded to Drive tonight. Most of the 3/14 A1 playlists have been built. Check trailer list for ones that still need manufacture. Inspected the last three reels of Gladiator. They're in excellent condition. New 35mm letters up on the marquee. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Tech'd the entirety of the Opening Nite program with Desmond, John, Cristina and Kat. All shorts look and sound great. The tech spreadsheet has been updated. - L Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: SuperhumanBody keys ingested - L Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Ingested Novocaine, Iron Giant.  Ingested another program for NSF25 (NoBudge) via the share drive just to keep us on schedule, first three shorts of Closing Nite are also ingesting. More preshow bits ingested - L Outgoing/Shipping (c...

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Syracuse MFA and alumni shorts program screening got off to a really rocky start this evening due to the HDMI connection failing to play audio and later video as the show was scheduled to begin. Lillian had tested everything earlier in the day with Kara, the university rep, and between rounds I checked the functionality of the microphone, which worked just fine, only to find that each of these would malfunction when needed. The mic line went dead, despite the tech, and the HDMI connection was giving us picture but no sound at the start of the program. I rewound the film, tried playing it again, but still had no sound. I did this twice more and by the third time the picture had also dropped out. I contacted Lillian and Alec and did some troubleshooting on the desktop for its sound settings which were, apparently, all wrong and not what she had set in the afternoon, leading us to believe the HDMI had completely severed its connectio...

To do this evening/ was completed: Busy, busy day... So, we properly downloaded the new MFA link this morning, which I immediately starting DCPing once I got in, but it is still transcoding. We figured this would happen and that we would have to go on with the OG file that has the editing mistakes (turns out, the students exported their films incorrectly, which makes sense because a lot of them were the wrong aspect ratio and had other editing issues present, some of which are hard to detect unless the actual filmmaker sees them - the kids were on a time crunch), but I wanted to troubleshoot a bit more because it would really suck to go through with the wrong file, so I copied the new file (mov file) to the DCPIII drive, downloaded VLC to the PC in 3/7 since mov files have a hard time playing on Windows without it  (you basically can't play mov files without VLC, not even quicktime anymore, apparently). Anyway, I hooked the PC up to the projector with a hdmi connection, adjusted th...

To do this evening/ was completed: Inspected Pariah. It's in mint condition. On house reels. 3/7 SE playlists built. Chenelle sent over a new file via Dropbox for tomorrow's private screening. When opening the link there's a message that says .mov files are supported but something went wrong, and you're not able to look at the video content of the file. I still went ahead and started downloading it to the desktop. I tried to download it through Free Download Manager as well but the application kept stating "unwanted behavior" when trying to initiate download. Update at end of the night : file "completed" downloading at 46 GB out of 108 GB and I can't seem to download through other applications. Last round T2 did not start as automated. Just noting because I recall something written somewhat recently about that issue being investigated/resolved. To do this evening/ was completed: Staff screenings have been emailed out, blocked on the calendar and scheduled on the LMS. We're looking good on content for this week and the next, but for this upcoming week, I've got a few more notes below (some of which are also mentioned in more detail in the weekly update from today). NOTE: We will need to really keep up with content, transfers, and local ingests as we have A LOT of movies on right now, including special/private events. T1 is maxing out, and we have special events in T1 for three days straight, this Monday - Weds, so we can delete each film off the server once they're done. Theatres 5, 4, 3 and 1 have the least space right now. Can't wait until we're done with The Brutalist ...goodness gracious. Deleted a few other SE features and Dog Man (kept this in T5 for the weekend). Wicked should be ingesting to T4 just fine now (it was blocked before due to storage). Weekly Update has been sent out. Please confirm that...

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Minor delay to the start of the final round in theater 7 due to the shows overlapping Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Set up for trivia at Trees tonight Drop Dead Fred intro and screening in theater 3 this evening went smoothly Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Received posters for  October 8  and The Ballad of Wallis Island and stored them behind 3/7 Ordering/Receiving (content): Uploaded a handful of keys for current and upcoming first run titles and for  Cinema Paradiso Outgoing/Shipping (content): Printed return labels and scheduled a pickup for Demons 2 for tomorrow morning (tracking ID: 772486585637) Print/video Inspection: Spent the rest of the evening re-inspecting  Demons 2 (some of the reels had gathered a bit of dirt during their run which was cleaned off) Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (eve...

To do this evening/ was completed: Rare Tuesday for me, also a rare solo day, so, definitely missed seeing everyone! Busy day, though.  Cristina, Desmond, Kat, John and I watched the entirety of the Matinee Two program for NSF 25. All films have their aspect ratio and volume info listed in the tech spreadsheet. I made tech playlists for both Matinee Two and Opening Nite, the latter of which we will watch this Friday as I found this morning that two DCPs were corrupt (mind you, the files were ready by the time we finished, but it takes so long to look at everything that we only had time for one program). I downloaded them to the same drive Kat gave us (the one that has all the DCPs on it) and ingested everything just fine. I am certain they just didn't finish fully downloading to that drive the first time. I haven't taken a look yet, but both DCPs look correct in the LMS and IMS.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist:  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Tes...

To do this evening/ was completed: Demons 2 went smoothly, mostly. Reel three started pretty out of frame even though the countdown was framed right. Quick fix. Spotted Zach Cregger in the audience when I brought the lights up. Did the first day of scheduling for the upcoming week in LMS. All of the shorts mentioned in today's admin blog were transferred to the SMB drive. I transferred shorts 4, 5, 6 and 8 (going down the list of the tech spreadsheet) of the opening nite program to T1. The other four do not show up when you search for them in the content tab under "all" even though they've already been transferred to SMB. So I've transferred them to the preshow drive at the end of the night and have started the LMS/1 ingest right before leaving. Double check in the morning. To do this evening/ was completed: The keys for Drop Dead Fred open up tomorrow, so we can get our eyes on it first thing in the morning. L NOTE: All the Opening Nite shorts are currently finishing ingesting to the LMS via the share drive. The first few shorts from Matinee Two are also ingesting, but please continue doing this throughout the evening. Once on the LMS, they will all need to be transferred to Theatre 1! Thank you!  So far, the rest of these still need to be transferred to the shared drive (image below) - Lillian   Added Mickey 17 information to the cue sheets, which we can double check once the film is open. L Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Deleted old playlists and outbound content off LMS/individual servers. - L Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Ran loops and refocused the lenses in theater 1 for Demons 2  tonight Transferred the MFA event on thursday to T7 to get eyes on it. It changes aspect ratios throughout the film, just betw...

To do this evening/ was completed: Oscars went smoothly on every screen. Volume in T2 was at 5.1, the hosts brought the volume in T1 up to 7.0 Broke down all equipment afterward. Mixer stuff beneath the screen in 1 might need a little more tidying but it's mostly fine. Re-inspected Clockwork Orange and packaged it up for outgoing. Did not have time to print label. NPP Projection Report 3/1 Open

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey everyone, please remember to check the actual runtime of new first run features against the Film Bot runtime (Matthew always puts this in the schedule email for the week the film opens) when we get the film schedule for the week. Noticed today the runtime for Captain America was 135 min in Film Bot but it's actually 118. Not creating negative flips but it affects showtime placement. If the actual runtime is any longer than what Film Bot has you should always let Conrad and Matthew know. I'd say if it's 5 minutes shorter or more that should be flagged, too. I emailed Matthew and Conrad about Captain America . Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: I put the event placeholder (7 hours) in the schedule for T1 & T2 Oscars tomorrow. This "finishes" at 12:35 so the lamp is scheduled to shut off at 12:40. The Oscars (hopefully) won't go this late, so please manually shut off the lamps in 1 & 2 at the end of the ni...
