NPP Projection Close 7/31

To do this evening/ was completed: All 8/4 preshow content ingested and all 8/4 A1 playlists built. Red Eye and Last Action Hero playlists built as well. Spent some time catching up with blog entries from the last few weeks. No full shutdown tonight. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: The Mist and both Oppenheimer 35mm screenings went very smoothly. There was a moment right after changing over to reel three of The Mist where I lost sound completely. I had switched to SR before the changeover and afterward there was clearly talking happening on screen but no sound from the monitor and no movement on the processor display. Had to hit the SR button a few times to get sound back. Print has been re-wound, will re-inspect tomorrow. Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/chec

To do this evening/ was completed: Made my rounds as frequently as possible during runs of Oppenheimer in T4 (picture and sound are fine throughout) and kept an eye on manual starts   Presentation Issues: Final round in T7 was scheduled inaccurately on the cue sheets and the TMS (showtime was meant to be 10PM but the show playlist was scheduled to start at 9:50 which meant the trailers would start at 10:15) and ended 15 minutes later than it should have; no guests made any complaints but MODs notified me of the discrepancy Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: The last two shows of  Oppenheimer  went very smoothly this evening (Alec's adjustment to the roller is working fine and keeping the edge of the film from rubbing against the platter) Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (

To do this evening/ was completed: T4 lamp was on this morning, since it was turned back on for the Oppenheimer DCP last night. Remember there is no shutdown playlist scheduled after the last 35mm Oppenheimer playlists, since there is a cue to shut the lamp off after the trailers. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: E.T. went well again today. The motor start issue on the CP500 is affecting changeovers to projector 1, too. The opposite thing happens where sound switches to projector 1 before you changeover. So I switched to SR before starting the motor to changeover and then switched back to Digital after killing the motor on the projector that just finished a reel for all changeovers and that worked. Do this for The Mist tomorrow night! The first Oppenheimer 35mm show went well. After it finished I added a washer to the guide roller for the bottom deck (which guides the film onto the deck when being rewound/taken up) as it was

To do this evening/ was completed: Added notes to the shutdown procedures for Monday night before the power gets cut Tuesday morning. This is on the desktop in 4/6. Jack, we'll be sure to send you a reminder, and you can always call if you have questions. I'll be on standby these next few days. I added a note about the computers and if you forget to shut these down, it's not a big deal because out APCs should provide backup power to keep them on for just a short while (after the power cut) before slowly and safely shutting them down. The one thing to remember is just ejecting the drives.  Note for Oppenheimer maintenance: Projectionists, this is just a lil reminder to make sure you're cleaning before, between, and after shows. Check everything. Use an air can and you'll see that this print is still in its shedding phase. Newer prints shed more because the emulsion is still soft, so cleaning the gate, rollers, and checking the brain(s) is absolutely necessary.  Pres

To do this evening/ was completed: Basically non-stop film today starting at noon. But things went smoothly. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Not that anyone needs to know this really since I’m running both shows again tomorrow, but I added 5 extra minutes of preshow to E.T. tomorrow, so the start of the first Oppenheimer doesn’t coincide with the last E.T. changeover. I updated the cue sheet and emailed managers about it. Slightly awkward last changeover in E.T. I hit the changeover button when I saw the c/o cue before opening the dowser. Audience saw a second of black. Nothing to do with starting Oppenheimer right before, just a slip of the hand. Otherwise E.T. went very well. I switched sound to SR before changing over to projector 2, then back to digital after killing the projector 1 motor, and that seemed to work. Didn’t hear any countdown as far as I could tell. I still am going to figure out the motor start issue with

To do this evening/ was completed: Both 35mm shows of Oppenheimer went beautifully in T4! Two sold out crowds. Some notes on the platter below. This might be excessive, but I gaffed the power cords (for the platter) so we don't trip on them since one of them has a very small cable and can get pulled out of the socket easily. This is mostly for me since I'm clumsy and almost took a tumble.  I filled out the cue sheets for the rest of this week from Monday to Thursday, sans a few special events and The Meg 2 , which we don't have preshow content for yet. Added credits info for The Mist & At Close Range.  Received a bunch of books for Cristina! Gave her a heads up.  Presentation Issues: Glad Shouting at the Screen went well the other night. Just for clarity (since I think my post might've been confusing), I didn't get a chance to try to Aja setup--pretty much same as spoons--before the show, so I settled on making that DCP since I didn't want to leave Will to

To do this evening/ was completed: Oppenheimer print has been moved up to Theater 4. Thanks again John and Matthew for your help! Ran the print through once in Theater 4 after moving it and it ran beautifully! Still looks great, and sounds great in Theater 4. I wrote the volume on a notecard, which is taped on the wall by the projector. Updated the playlist, too, with the new volume cue and the masking FILM 239 cue, which we should use for the 35mm Oppenheimer screenings in 4. HDMI and DVI ports all worked completely normally in Theater 2 when I checked them today... with all AJAs, cables, and both the blu-ray player and the laptop from the stage. Got image on the first try with everything I tried. No idea what was happening yesterday. Please let's finish up the cue sheets tonight. A note: do not fill in credit times for 35mm Oppenheimer shows based on the time the playlist ends on the TMS schedule. The DCP in the playlist starts two minutes after we start the print, so subtract

To do this evening/ was completed: Presentation Issues: Barbie  OCAP show in T3 (second round) did not play with captions on screen as intended since the CCAP version was built into this show playlist instead; a guest asked for a closed captioning device, one was provided, after which Lillian and I realized the issue with the show playlist which was later fixed Preshow Clips/Playlist: Downloaded updated keys for Elemental and Past Lives show playlists Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Oppenheimer 35mm run concluded in T1 after the first round 13 Going on 30 private screening in T4 went very smoothly with Chenelle's assistance but the Q&A lasted longer than expected and created a 10 minute delay in the pre-show for Barbie in the final round  Shouting at the Screen + Donwill DJ set at Trees Lounge this evening went well; completed a sound check with Cristina and the event hosts beforehand Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Back on the Strip one sheets were del

To do this evening/ was completed: Scheduled all of the TMS (apart from The Meg ) for the week of 7/28 - 8/3.  Presentation Issues: Spent almost the entire morning figuring out why the hdmi connection wouldn't work in T2 for Shouting at the Screen this morning. I tried just about everything under the sun, including different settings on the projector, adapters, Ajas, cables, etc. Eventually, when I finally got both T1 Aja's situated in the T2 booth/auditorium, we were already opening., so I wasn't able to try that last option. I decided to make a video (that is now a DCP) of the PowerPoint presentation, exporting it out with each slide getting 6 seconds of time before it advances to the next, so we'll be able to pause on each slide. Hosts can still cue us as we'll be able to hear them in the booth. DCP is in the playlist. Will and Cristina are aware.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Got volume and double checked credits info for Talk To Me, which sounds much louder at 5.0 i

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey everyone. Whew! What a time we've had with Barbie and Oppenheimer. Thanks, all, for making these platter shows a breeze alongside other specialty screenings. I'm thrilled with how it's turned out so far. Tomorrow the platter will be moved into T4. Alec will be in on Friday morning to move it with Matthew, John, and I cannot, for the life of me, remember who else (apologies to my colleague who I am forgetting! I have Barbenheimer brain...  I'll be covering Jack Friday evening. While we're doing a great job of keeping our 35 shows running beautifully, I do want to stress that it's important for us to keep a watchful eye on our other duties. Specific notes below, but we need to work together to make sure that the marquee stays updated and I'd rather someone work on playlists/cue sheets before inspecting a print, but only  to do that if we have a little while before the print screens. To do this evening/ was completed: Oppenheimer shows in T1 continue to run very smoothly. No issues today. (Will) Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Downloaded and ingested the Love on the Run trailer and added it to the PG-13 trailer pack for this week. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Cleaned P1 in T1 along with the platter deck, brain, and rollers. Threaded Oppenheimer for the 5:30. I had to motor ahead a bit farther than usual to make sure all the guide rollers were in a good position, so open the heat shield/changeover quickly after starting the motor. Scheduled the show playlist for Embarrassment  for tomorrow evening and built and scheduled a private Oppenheimer show playlist too. (Will) Runaway went very well! To do this evening/ was completed: Ran Safe this evening. Screening was great. Print is ready for re-inspection. Focus was largely on booth 1 in addition to making the usual rounds.  Oppenheimer print run was smooth sailing today. I cleaned and turned off the rectifiers following the final round (Will) Presentation Issues: Noticed that the 35mm playlist for Oppenheimer had been scheduled in T2 for first round. Changed this to the correct DCP playlist.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Informed Cristina that I'd tech'd the print of Safe myself since she isn't feeling well and couldn't come in today.  Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Received the three August intro slides from Desmond. To do this evening/ was completed: Made my rounds throughout the building after starting the Oppenheimer print; picture and sound have been fine all evening Oppenheimer shows ran very smoothly despite the minor DCP hiccup (see below); the print remains in great condition and the platter/projector is running in tip top shape Presentation Issues: There was a bit of a mixup with the manual start for the final round in T6; I thought the OCAP version of Past Lives   was meant to be playing but it was the CCAP instead (I had been looking at the cues for Monday by mistake) but I was in communication with Wyatt and got it sorted out quickly The audience for the final round of Oppenheimer got a double dose of the Universal logo since the DCP show playlist had been mistakenly scheduled instead of the 35mm one and this began playing just as I was opening the dowser on the film projector; I quickly shut the dowser on the digital projector, switched the sound channel back to 35mm, and opened the ma

To do this evening/ was completed: Thank you Lillian for tidying up so much in booth 1! Was great to walk into such an organized space for a day of multiple 35mm shows. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Please make sure the "T6" playlists are scheduled for Theater 6, the GPO trigger cue at the start of the regular A1 playlists causes the T6 server to pause the playlist one second in, every time. Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Truman Show went well again today. I'm not sure what's going on with the changeovers, the 500 is not recognizing when the P2 motor is on which is I think what's causing this. It was hard to tell with both motors going and just having the booth monitor to go off, but I think I heard the beep at the ends of reels on P1... but then (I'm pretty sure) the sound would switch over to P2 after the beep (?) without me having to hit the changeover button again but would still only be SR, then when I turned off the P1 motor

To do this evening/ was completed: Oppenheimer 35mm shows went beautifully today! Maintenance notes below.  Presentation Issues: Not an issue, but I noticed some finger prints on the port glass on the far right window. Just be careful not to get hands on em... Preshow Clips/Playlist: Made the playlist for Embarrassment  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Red Eye is still transcoding in T1, will definitely be done by tomorrow morning!  Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Keeping my eye on what's available to download via the shared drive for 7/28.  Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection:  Asset tracking doc updated/checked?:  Maintenance/cleaning: The changes to the cp500 worked great! Kept an eye on the print both rounds pretty closely.  Spent a great deal of time cleaning tonight. To do this evening/ was completed: Since the Shutdown playlist was taken off the schedule for Th6, the lamp stayed on overnight. If you take this off the schedule for whatever reason, please remember to reschedule it for after the last show or remember to turn the lamp off, these really can't stay on overnight. Th6's lamp was on when I got in yesterday despite the shutdown playlist being scheduled. So please be sure to check that the lamp in Th6 is off after the last show. Didn’t have any issues with T6 today, but keep an eye on it. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: The Truman Show went very well. The print looked really nice despite being a little bit scratchy. I noticed an odd thing were P2 would play the SR track (saying SRD was not ready) until I shut off the motor on P1. Not a huge issue since the sound switched over, it was just playing the analog track for a few seconds. But I haven't noticed this before, I thin

To do this evening/ was completed: Friday night for Oppenheimer! Big crowds. Both 35mm Oppenheimer shows went very well. Platter continues to run smoothly and without issue.  Presentation Issues: MOD radioed me about the volume in T6 for Spiderverse, saying a few customers came out asking if we could lower the volume. I'm not sure who built these, but the volume was set to 7.0 in the T6 playlist for Spiderverse and that is way, way too loud. I altered both the ccap and ocap for T6 and immediately brought the volume to 5.0.  Radioed MOD about a person I could see from the booth, in T1, who we had to consistently ask to take her bare feet off the table.  T6 did some strange acting up today and I almost thought we weren't going to get Past Lives up on screen. I was first notified that the manual start didn't go through. I noticed the TMS and T6 server suggested it was playing but it wasn't and was still red. I went to delete it off the TMS and just bring it up manually,

To do this evening/ was completed: The CP500 in Theater 1 was left on last night and the heat shield (red handle) on the projector was open. Please remember to turn off the 500 and really, really remember to close the heat shield. As a precaution it should always be closed if the motor is not on, even if the lamp is off. I made some edits to the Oppenheimer housekeeping notes and reprinted them so they're not double sided. Also typed up a step-by-step procedure for setting up and running the show. There are copies on the wall by the platter in 1 and the platter in 4. Please read them all through. Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Possession preshow, next week’s forecasts, and the Back to the Future and Rosie Perez trailers have been ingested. To do this evening/ was completed: Our first Oppenheimer shows have landed folks. We have given them the power to entertain themselves. The first two shows went off without a hitch and we're in great shape going in to the weekend.  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: The private event in Theater 6 went great! Chenelle picked up the blu ray once it was over.  Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: I inspected all of Runaway . It's a little warped and starting to smell like vinegar, but the image is still really nice. It's mostly rewound on shipping reels except for Reel 1, which no matter how many times in either booth and any speed kept tenting. I've left it up in 4/6  Twister was also post inspected and packed up. All it needs is labels and we should be all set to send it back!  Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance

To do this evening/ was completed: Barbenheimer has arrived. We've got this. Also, I'll bump an email about this, but please make sure to send Alec and I any and all time off requests for August. Also, we got Oppenheimer shirts in the booth ~ five for the five of us! lol there's one small, one medium, and three larges...I think.  Thanks to MOD for emailing me about an ADA ticket earlier today so we could plan ahead to get that seat out tonight! I printed out the Housekeeping Notes for Oppenheimer. There's a copy in T4/6 and T1. The one in T4 is attached to projector 1, the copy in T1 is attached to the wall where the other references images/breakdowns are located.  MOD reached out about the World Cup and setting it up in Trees. I will be able to do this before the last round of Oppenheimer in T1 tomorrow. The other date is 7/26. Will is going to to close that evening and a Q&A will be happening for Music Driven (which we'll likely have to keep an eye on manually

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey all! Well, we're just about there! Barbenheimer starts tomorrow. Alec and I ran the print this morning as a dress rehearsal to check image/sound and to give our lovely staff a first look. The print looks really beautiful and I'm very excited for this run. We'll get our eyes on the DCP tomorrow to compare sound, though we're almost certain the loud, static noises that occur during scenes of explosions or closeups of nuclear particles are intentional.  I want to share with everyone a document I've whipped up called Housekeeping Notes for the Projectionist: Plattering Oppenheimer. This document details everything from notes on threading procedures--to cleaning--to examples of common situations and how to respond/communicate with colleagues and, of course, staying on top of other duties. Whilst Alec and I will be there for the first couple of screenings and to assist with each projectionists' first time running the platter--pl

To do this evening/ was completed: I ran the test film on the Th4 platter through the projector. All good, and I encourage people to practice with it. Same threading pattern as Th1, only there is no guide roller attached to the wall between the platter tree and the projector as it's not necessary in this room. The Oppenheimer print has arrived! I believe I already mentioned this, but it was shipped on 3 6K reels, roughly an hour each. The reels were pre-cut without traditional countdown leader (except for the first reel), the print is intended to be plattered only. It's been fully built on the platter in Th1. We have a staff screening tomorrow. For everyone's information, the picture on the 35mm print is cropped to 2.39, so we will use the usual scope masking for the print, 2.20 for the DCP only. I'll go over this in person with people, but the print came with a full platter threading leader, so I didn't need to attach ours. There are two countdowns at the beginnin

To do this evening/ was completed: (I'm here late to get my eyes on Twister )  Hey projectionists. Tomorrow morning, Oppenheimer will be delivered. Safe to say, this is going to be an insanely busy time. The next few weeks are going to be pretty mad, but we're going to do great. Matthew sent out the film schedule today, detailing the changes Oppenheimer will bring. As back up, we will be running a DCP of Oppenheimer whilst the print runs. We'll detail this more formally in a separate email (along with other housekeeping notes on Oppenheimer 35 shows ~ I'm writing up some of this in a doc. i.e before and after cleaning procedures plus how to take care of ourselves and respond to others whilst working).  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Tech'd all of the Oppenheimer/Barbie preshow content. Coverage for the next few days is sorted.  Presentation Issues: Got some requests for a volume change in T1 during MI7 (second round) but not during third round. Before I raised the volume for second round, I checked in on the theatre and it was already appropriately loud, though it was during an action scene (to be fair, most of the film is, well, an action scene) but I went up to the booth to bring it up to 5.5, which was alright. To do this evening/ was completed: Hey everyone, you should at some point see the email Alec sent out regarding August. We have, for the most part, everyone's PTO dates and other arrangements, but if anything comes up in the near future, please make us aware. End of July/August is going to be massively busy, so we'll want to nail things down. I do also want to mention that it would be in everyone's best interest if we all keep a good eye on the Event Calendar/Schedulefly for the changes being made since we're having to work around Oppenheimer and our Special Events (most of which are also on 35mm), so please remember to double check so you're in the loop. Thank you!  Presentation Issues: Showtimes board in the lobby hadn't properly updated. Rebooted the system and got it up and running again.  Preshow Clips/Playlist: NoBudge playlist built. Built out a quick preshow playlist for T6 today.  Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: We're all set for Bambo

To do this evening/ was completed: Made the usual rounds throughout the evening and took note of picture and sound ( Mission: Impossible  could use a slight increase in volume, especially once the crowds get larger over the weekend in the bigger auditoriums); manual start for the final round in T6 Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Midsommar FilmFeast in T3 ran very smoothly; set up for karaoke at Trees Lounge (there were multiple complaints about volume levels during this so I brought the master volume on the panel by the bar entrance down which seemed to be in conflict with whoever kept raising the gain/volume on the mixer)  Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): A Folded Ocean DCP was copied to the DCPIII drive and was ingested to T2 ( Mulan is on the drive as well and can be ingested to T6 tomorrow for the private event on the 17th)  Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection: Asset t

To do this evening/ was completed: Hey everyone! PLEASE remember to practice your threading and to run the platter (try to not leave it threaded up). Double check that everything looks correct. Oppenheimer is right around the corner and it will sneak up on us. Everyone must have their threading down so we can shift focus to showmanship and other aspects of automation once the print arrives. Thank you!  We're looking great on content ~ we've got everything we need for the next week. Muppets KDM opens up Friday, so we'll tech then.  CCAPs working in Th1 again, the ethernet from the extender had been moved from the corresponding port in the booth, probably when we were troubleshooting the HDMI after it died again in there. I labeled the port it should be plugged into. - Alec Cleaned the port window and lens for the Christie in booth 2. - Alec Went around to all the houses and checked 2.00 (for Barbie ) and 2.20 (for Oppenheimer ) masking settings and lens macros. To do this evening/ was completed: A lot to do tonight, but all done in good time and all in good fun!  Presentation Issues: Preshow Clips/Playlist: I made some playlists for next week's shows specifically in Theater 6 Trailer Updates: Special Events/ AV set up: Alec handled Safe in Hell tonight which gave me a lot of room to get Trivia set up without much of a hitch. All, as per usual, went well on that front.  I managed to fully thread and run the platter set up in Theater 1 tonight not once, but twice! Some minor tweaks from Alec on the first run, but I was confident enough during the second one to fully do it. Everything is turned off and the platter has been re-covered.  Ordering/Receiving (posters & trailers): Ordering/Receiving (content): Updated keys for Asteroid City and Spiderverse AND Muppets Take Manhattan  uploaded Outgoing/Shipping (content): Print/video Inspection:  Asset tracking doc updated/checked?: Maintenance/cleaning: Cue sheets updated/checked (every s
